Hi! We met a really friendly chef at Boma in 2008 and hope someone know if he is still there. I think his name was Tjep or something like that. I was looking in the buffet for vegetarian stuff when he ask me if I need help. So I asked for the vegetarian food and he explain all the buffet to me. 15-20 min later he brought us a huge plate with tofu kebabs and lots of good stuff. I almost cried!

So all this long story because we go back in sept and wish to see him again. Thank you!

There's a Chef TJ that used to work at Boma, who now works at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. He's really great about food allergies and vegetarian/vegan diets. The buffet at 1900 PF is pretty dull in terms of veggie options (particularly compared to Boma), but if you catch him on a night he's working I'm sure he'll make you something delicious.

If you're interested in making a reservation, you should try giving the restaurant a call to see if he's working that night. There's also a vegetarian/vegan dining thread on here - someone on there may happen to know the nights he normally works. Hope you get to see him again. :)

thank you! I will try to call at the Grand Floridian. Good to know because last time we indeed not have a lot of choice there and not plan to go back...

Just to let you know, on the disABILITIES! board chef TJ has been discussed at length because he's just as great with food allergies as he is with vegetarian and vegan food. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though he works directly with guests any longer. Nobody seems to have seen him since he moved over to the Grand Floridian. Don't book an ADR with the specific purpose of trying to meet him or having him personally take care of you. Even if he's working at the time I wouldn't count on having him come out to your table.

:sad1:

We have called before to check TJ's schedule and then went to the GF and asked to see him during our dinner. He has come out and we always enjoy speaking with TJ and thanking him for always taking good care of us.

I've read on here before that even when he wasn't available, he had left instructions for the other chefs when he knew a guest with a dietary need would be dining. In between Boma and 1900 PF, he worked at Ohana. I was so excited when I made a reservation on a night I thought he'd be working - and was so disappointed when he had left Ohana right before my trip!

All I can say, is if it weren't for Chef TJ, I would never consider going back to 1900 PF. Now, I might give it another try.

same for us! It was not so bad, just not enough veggie choices...(but we love the strawberry soup!)
