Hi, I am new to this board and my family is eagerly looking forward to our Dec.14 magic cruise. We are a family of six. 4 kids, DD19, DS17, DD 12 and DD 4. I'm worried about the age spread, but mostly that my oldest two will have difficulty meeting people their age. DS can go to common grounds to meet teens, but DD19 is too old. Are there activities for young adults 19-21 to get together? Any college students sailing with us?

Henn1313,
My oldest is DD14 (she'll be 15 in February). She is extremely mature for her age and is an ice hockey fanatic! She is somewhat shy and I am concerned about her meeting someone to hang around with on the ship. I don't know how your DS17 feels about a tomboy, but if he is interested in ice hockey or drawing, I would love to try and get them to email prior to the cruise. She is all tomboy and most of her friends are guys. (I was exactly the same way) Let me know what you think. My email is ldw@mr-themeyersgroup.com. :D

Welcome to the DIS boards Henn1313 and to our group of 12/14 cruisers! I have 3 DS's - 21, 19 and 13 with two finishing finals and dreaming of the hot tub and sun - me too but I don't have any finals to take - LOL! This is the second cruise for the boys (third for DH and me) and when asked if they wanted to go again I got a resounding YES!!!!!!! We will have to get them together as there are no planned activities for the older teens.

your 17 year old will probably do great in common grounds, however i strongly advise you take up glindamood on the offer of arranging a meeting for your 19 year old with her 21 and 19 year olds......that's a very difficult age if she's all alone and doesn't know anyone....(assuming her brother will be off in common grounds)....
my daugther was 18 on our cruise.......she spent all of her time with us as there were no organized activities for that age....she was too old for the kids in common grounds and way too young for the few swinging singles on board....
i should add that she had a spectacular time in spite of that and can't wait to go again...although this time she plans on bringing her cousin of the same age with us....

the point being, try to make arrangements for her in advance to preclude the problems this age group always faces....

Just back from our 10/31 cruise. My son (14) is also a littel shy but he had a wonderful time on this cruise. He was out until 2 in the morning the first two nights and then 3:00 on the last night. He had a blast! His curfew at home is 11:00 but I felt very comfortable about letting him go on this cruise. There is alot to do for teens and they kept them busy. any questions...please e-mail...danbarbara@aol
