Looking for support, please no flames...

My cousin had this surgery and she is very happy with the results. Heer surgeon insisted on counseling prior to the surgery and facilitated a support group that met once a week. She found that the people there had so much practical advice as well as just plain understanding. There were people who were waiting for the surgery and had the same concerns that she had, I'm sure that you are feeling the same thoughts at least one of them was feeling. My cousin also participated in an online group and she was able to get some support there as well. I don't know the address of the online group, but if you want it, let me know and I will send it to you.

I don't have fisthand experience with this surgery but I wish you all the best luck.

Tammy  I agree with the others- try and keep focused on the positive and the recovery.

Shugar- you look fabulous!

to the poster who didn't understand why someone would flame this decision. It has come up before and not a flame but older posters remember there are at least 2 dissers we lost to this surgery.

on a happier note I know 2 people who have had it this year. One is a 50+ female who has lost 40+ pounds in 3 months and 50 more to go for her.
Another is a 35+ male who weighed over 450 pounds. He had surgery almost 1 year ago and has lost 200 pounds.

Good luck to you.

Just wanted to send some positive thoughts and good wishes for a smooth and uneventful surgery and recovery.

My sister just had this surgery in June and has so far lost over 90 pounds. Her asthma and sleep apnea is improving significantly and the depression she was in from being overweight has diminished greatly. I was so worried about her going in and her recovery. But, it is so nice to see her smile now.

Best of luck to you.

You might want to head over to www.obesityhelp.com LOTS of great help on their forums

Tammy, i agree with shugar..Actually she beat me to the punch...

i am approaching my one year surgiversary in a month and am down 100 lbs so far.... (i had a DS)

Anyway, i was comforted in that i had the best surgeon in this area for my surgery and he had never lost a patient. (and just the fact that the surgeon is ok to do it means you have a reasonable chance of sucess)

I did worry but started worrying less when i saw how much my DH and DD would inherit if i didn't wake up from surgery. (he ain't that lucky;) )

Good luck with everything...

Tammy, you are doing what you feel is right for you, your body, and your health. Focus on that. Talk to whoever you feel you need to talk to ...a dear friend, family member, priest/pastor, counselor or all of the above. Whatever it takes to make you comfortable and calm your fears. Best wishes to you. What an exciting new chapter in your life!:grouphug:

Sugah...your pictures are amazing. You look fantastic. Congrats.
