Looking for some help from a RCI owner

My parents have offered to let us use their time share for our trip to help with our budget. It was not a RCI property, but they paid the fee for this year so that we can use the RCI system.

I can not search availability without a week banked and I don't want to bank the week and then find there is no availability for the time that we need (this October) - we are not flexible since we've traveling over a school break and airline tickets have already been purchased.

I would love for someone to check some dates/availability for me that has a week banked.

We are a weeks member and I really don't understand how it all works - what level we could book with DVC, etc. How do I figure that out? Not sure if we'd qualify for a studio or one bedroom - it says maximum occupancy 4 on the info RCI sent me.

Thanks!

With such little flexibility, you may wind up with nothing at all. I'd go with a cash reservation to Disney direct and forget about an RCI trade at this point.

Even if you don't have enough trading power(banked weeks), if you click "show ALL RCI reservations/properties"(I'm not sure how it's stated), you can see everything that's available. Just type "Disney" into the search toward the bottom of the page.

I'm not sure what others have done, but I wasn't able to see availability until I talked to member services. I could view the hotels and already knew how much the points were with a DVC exchange. Hope someone else can help you :)

The OP is talking about exchanging an RCI resort for a DVC stay. Your comment refers to trading DVC points for an RCI stay.

I have RCI points so the offerings may be different on the weeks side but on the points side Oct was offered up a few weeks back and gone within 48hrs. We snagged the week/room we wanted and it was the only one offered up.

Right this sec there are some 1bedrooms and studios available at SSR for Sept check in dates & some studios, 1bedrooms and (1) 2bedroom at OKW for August check in dates. That's it for the points side.

What and when are you looking for?

You might want to join the Timeshare User's Group at http://www.tugbbs.com. For $15/year you'll have access to the Sightings Forum which often discusses recent DVC deposits and trends. The history already posted and observations of those who track the deposits can help give you a better picture of prior Oct deposits and what is still expected.

I second the suggesting of joining TUG and/or Timeshare Forums (www.timeshareforums.com) I'm one of the people who keeps on top of DVC availability, along with a few others. October is pretty slim pickings, and the October deposits go very quickly, but we are *right now* seeing deposits then. This past Friday, I confirmed an exchange for a 1BR at BCV for late October/early November.

What and when are you looking for?
Good question---what size unit, what resort(s), and when? I would add to that: what do you have available to deposit? And, is this RCI Weeks or RCI Points? (It sounds like Weeks, but I'm not 100% sure...)

Depending on the answers, it is possible (and, I'll wager, even likely) that you will not be able to confirm an exchange into a DVC property. They require a trade power that will exceed that available to the average deposit. That said, my advice would be that if budget is an issue, to be willing to consider a non-Disney timeshare exchange. There are many lovely resorts just a stone's throw away from WDW borders. We've stayed in several of them, and every stay has been good-to-great.
