Thinking about getting some. Tell me the pros and cons.

I have two silicone sheets that I put on my cookie sheets or use to roll out dough and they are wonderful! I just used them to make cookies yesterday and they made things so much easier. I'm looking to get more silicone for our kitchen.

Silpats are a must have IMO. They do a marvelous job of regulating the temperature and helping the item to bake more evenly and of course nothing in the world sticks to them! (My only problem is getting my husband to leave them alone....he likes to cook greasy things like fish sticks on there :scared1: and that is just wrong. WRONG I tell you. Ick.

I also have a silicone muffin pan which is great too, but I probably wouldn't run out to buy one if I already had a muffin pan.

Thinking about getting some. Tell me the pros and cons.

Pros: Everything comes out/off the silicone easily. Nothing sticks.

Everything bakes evenly.

Cons: Depending on the shape of the item, can be hard to handle/transfer
when filled with batter/doughs/anything partially liquid.

Again, depending on shape, can be hard to clean the nooks and
crannies. I have a silicone loaf pan that I make banana bread in. The
bread pops right out, but of course there's some "residue" that needs to
be cleaned. Getting a nylon scrubbie into the corners means actually
pressing the corner into the scrubbie instead of the other way around. :rotfl:

All that being said, I'd still much rather use the silicone pan for baking bread than a metal one which I'd have to grease, flour, and would then still be harder to clean up in the end.

I have a silicone bundt pan and absolutely hate it! Hated it so much that I swore never to buy another silicone baking item again (other than Silpats).

I've got 4 silicone baking trays that I don't like at all. Nothing sticks to them but even at 250-350 they seem to be melting and that bothers me. I rarely use them because of that. Only for things that I'm going to bake in the low 200's.

LOVE my silicone baking mats (for cookies, biscuits).

HATED my silicone muffin tin (past tense because I threw it away). It was too hard to clean.

Ditto, although I haven't tried Silpats. I hated my silicone muffin pan so much I refuse to buy another piece of silicone bake wear.

Sounds like I will just stick with my silicone spatulas!!! THANKS everyone.

FWIW, Target has small silicon sheets in the $1.00 section...they were actually $2.50.....grabed a few today :)

I love all of my silicone bake ware. I have 2 muffin pans, 2 round cake pans, 1 square cake pan, a loaf pan and 4 sheet pan liners. it is advised that you put a baking tray under them for easier transfering into and out of the oven. The first couple of times you need to spray a little pam into the pans to prevent sticking but after that you should be good. You also have to wait until the items are cooled to take them out of the pan easier, I learned that lesson the hard way. clean up is a breeze for me, I just wipe it clean with a paper towl first then a quick trip thru the wash water if I think it needs it.
I suggest give it a try with something small. It might just work for you.

I do not own silicone bakware because I'm not sure that is something I want heated to high temperatures and leaching into my food. Just a thought.:hippie:I guess the hippie symbol would be approriate for a tree hugger that would make such a comment.
