I have never stayed at Fort Wilderness, but those are exactly what I am looking for...for a lower price.
Thanks

Hi Pooh....I know this isn't exactly the rustic themeing of FW, but these are cottages with decks (tropical themed) similar to the FW cabins ? They are less expensive too. I just plugged in July 18-25, 2003 and got $89/night from their web site : http://www.tropicalpalms.com/
Also you could check out this site : http://mhchomes.com/DBMHC/MHCCmnty.nsf/vwPages/Property-CommunityCommunityWDPZAA-4R9SWV?OpenDocument , but once again, not exactly western/rustic in themeing as with FW ?

Not sure if either of these is very helpful ? Maybe someone else is aware of something more similar to FW ? Good luck !

Wow, you beat me, Maria! I was doing a search on the look and the price of the Wilderness cabins and thought about the Tropical Palms.

I have not stayed in either but there have been plenty of positive reviews of this property on this board.

lol...yep, this time.....I knew about the Tropical Palms and I've also heard positive reviews. The other site---Sherwood Forest--I had to search for. Pooh99 got even me curious about what sort of option similar to FW were in the WDW area. There doesn't seem to be much from what I was coming up with---lots of RV parks I discovered though ! lol

We stayed at the Tropical Palm Fun Resort - in the 2 bedroom cottage - in September of 2001 and absolutely loved it!!
You can't beat the price - for having a "home" to return to after a long day at the parks. The grounds are great (store, laundramat, adult pool, kiddie pool) - it's located way back off the main road so you aren't bothered by noise- there's a poolside cafe that serves VERY inexpensive breakfast and lunch - the owners are awesome - and you can get to the parks in less than 10 minutes..

The ONLY drawback (for some) is no telephone in the cottages.. You could either bring a cell phone - or use the pay phones that are located both inside and outside of the office/store.

We stayed in Tropical Palms last October and absolutely loved it! Having no phone didn't bother me at all! I was on vacation! We also had the two bedroom, and it was great to put the two boys to bed and sit up, watch tv and relax with my DH awhile before turning in. And the benefit of being able to get up and make the kids breakfast and know they had at least one good meal a day was immeasurable! My boys were 2 & 3 last year and getting them to sit still and eat in the parks was a lost cause. We are going again this October and already have our reservations! Can't wait!

Awesome place, isn't it? And so centrally located to everything you could possibly want!

Did you get to see the armadillos wandering around? That was one of the biggest highlights of the trip for me!! :)

Hi C. Ann, no I missed the armadillos! I'll have to look this year! Was it at dusk or later in the evening? Thanks! I have only stayed outside the park a few times and mostly didn't enjoy it. But I really liked Tropical Palms! I could have floated in the heated pool all night long! And I just can't reiterate enough how much use we got out of having a full kitchen. My kids are easily distracted at meal time, and eating "at home" if you will was so much easier!

Once in awhile we saw them in the early morning - but mostly at dusk or in the evening while sitting outside enjoying the deck..;)

My son-in-law says the only way he'll ever go back to Florida is if we stay at the Tropical Palms again- and believe me, he can be pretty darn picky!! LOL
