Looking for Nov 9th ~ 7 Day Western Magic Cruisers!

Well, today I write to you very happy to be alive... My hubby and I witnesses (and got way too close to) a fatal car accident today. We were on our way to a church meeting early this morning and driving on a road in an area were there are a lot of factories and therefore a lot of trucks. All we know is that someone coming the opposite way somehow lost control of his car and skid across the grass median (which is about 3 car lanes wide) and finally came to stop about 50 feet behind us. Unfortunately the dump truck behind us (which was full of sand) slammed into the passenger side of the black Mustang. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty. My first thought was: he must be dead... I just witnessed someone's death. There is a difference, you know, when you see it in person. Sure enough, later that day when we spoke to people who were on there way to the same place saw that he in fact had died, as he was covered on the scene.

I can't tell you how affected we have both been by this event. It has come to us as a reminder of two things: 1) How life can change - and end - in a matter of 3 seconds. 2) How important it is NOT to speed. I honesty think speeding was the difference of life or death for this person.

Anyway, I thought I should share that with you all... I am so sorry to hear that so many of you are going through such hard times. I hope everything turns out okay for everyone.

I think we ALL need a vacation, don't you agree??? :Pinkbounc

Well, we are all lucky enough to say that we are looking forward to a vacation very soon... GOD WILLING, we will ALL be there...

Talk Later,

Denise

P.S. (and on a lighter note)

:bounce: :bounce: GO CANES!!!:bounce: :bounce:
(Whew! That was close...)

Denise,
I'm so glad you and your hubby are safe, and weren't involved in the accident! I know seeing something like that does make you look at life differently. For myself, learning that my 20 year old DSIL has cancer, really makes me look at things differently. I realize we shouldn't make such a big deal over little things. "Not to sweat the small stuff."

I agree with you-we need a vacation!

See you all in 26 days!!!
Bonnie

Bonnie,

Sorry to hear about your SIL. Our prayers are with your family. You are right, we all are going to need this vacation. This sniper on I-95 is just too close to home.

Patty....Cosmos are wonderful. There is a bartender by the name of Joval (hope he is still there) at the Promenade Lounge that makes the best I've ever had. Always in search for the perfect Cosmo!

Denise... In our travels down I-95, we have witnessed some pretty grim accidents. They always put things into certain perspectives. They make things like ressies, wine packages, and your view off the verandah seem trivial indeed.

On a lighter note, looking forward to meeting all of you. We should all be feeling pretty good by the time the whistle blows!!!! If all goes according to plan, we should have polished off a bottle of champagne by the safety drill. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

See you all real soon, stay in touch.

add to my signature DH, Wes, so he doesn't whine that I'm horning in on his DIS board responses.

Not being much of a Martini drinker (never had one) does someone want to tell me what is in a Cosmo? And what seperates it from a regular martini?
I don't drink a lot anymore.....;) but have hung with my favorites, which has got to be Tequila and margaritas. We LOVED the flavored rums of St. Thomas and brought several bottles home. I don't claim to be a "SOPHISTICATED" drinker either. We do enjoy wine now periodically, although in my prime I probably consumed more bottles of T.J. Swans Easy Nights than I care to remember.......( :earseek: am I rousting fond memories from anyone else here?)
talk to you all soon.........
smiles Patty

Patty,

A Cosmo, if made correctly, is a martini that is made with Vodka and Cointreau with a twist of lime. It must be very cold. As I said, if made correctly, it is very good. Made poorly and it can be quite strong!

I'll buy one for you!

Debbie

Greeting to all fellow Western Magic passengers, Disney fanatics and cruise connoisseurs ( I had to look that one up :) I hope you had a safe and wonderful weekend.
Not too many things on the "To Do" list other than packing.

Hey Patty, Mary says she is up for the premium package if you guys are. We would not do if it was just us.

Sher, how is you DMIL ? hopefuly things are getting better for you.

Short week for me :) :) as I am off with my boating buddies for a chartered Tuna fishing trip off Cape Hatteras on Thursday.

May the fishing God's smile upon us:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Keep the thread active,
Bob

Bonnie, so sorry to hear about your SIL, she will be in my thoughts and prayers. The mind is a powerful thing, “mind your mind” is one of my favorite sayings. Help her to stay positive, and use her mind to “picture” all disease being gone from her body. Sending lots of positive thoughts and pixie dust her way.

Denise, so glad you and DH made it through that safely. What a terrible thing to witness. It does make us think how a split second could change our lives, and how precious life is.

Bob, you and your family have also been in my thoughts. I hope this sniper is apprehended, and this senseless killing will end. My Neice goes to the University
Of Maryland, and frequents the Mall where one of the shootings occurred. I guess we will also be in that area when we board the AutoTrain in Lorton VA on 11/2. KEEP SAFE! - And good luck with the fishing!

Debbie & Wes, and I thought I loved Cosmos! I’ll have to check out the Promonade Lounge, and that Bartender! Thanks to Patty, I’ll check out your website as well!

Well – HELLO to everyone else, and THANK you all again for your kind thoughts, prayers and pixie dust. My MIL is doing remarkably well. She will be heading to a nursing facility (not nursing home – more like a rehab) either today or tomorrow. She has a VERY strong will to live, and sounded really good on the phone this weekend. We say she’s like 2 cats – she’s used up the 9 lives on one, and is on her second. It’s still touch and go, and she’s lucky to still be here. We are staying positive, and having faith that everything will work out. DH came home last Thursday, and the potty was working again that evening! The dog has been banished from the living room when we are not home! She’s not too thrilled, poor thing!

We did lots of closet cleaning this weekend, and I found 2 pairs of Capri pants that have been missing for some time!! I’ve started sorting out the clothes and making piles or what we are taking. The “packing list” has been started! We leave 2 weeks from this Saturday!!

Take care all and have a good week!
Sher

I am still laughing about that one............. I did a search on Cosmos..........I just happened to find one with WESLEY'S recipes.... I don't think it belongs to OUR "WES" but I guess we'll never know unless he fesses up to us........
Just had to clear this up before I had everyone confused. ;)

Bob- Been researching out the wine packages..... Are they a good deal? Seems to be some pros and cons on them? Some of them Definately sound interesting to say the least. I'll run it by guy and see what he says, I kind of threw that one out there in Jest as well, but I'm willing to give it a try. Hope you catch a boat load of fish!

Sher-Glad to hear that MIL is a little more stable. Wouldn't want to miss meeting you.

Denise- I really feel your emotion on the near accident. I had the kids in the car with me one night a month ago. We were on the freeway and doing 75mph, and had a car pull off of the shoulder right in front of us doing less than 20mph. without even thinking I swerved to the left to avoid rear-ending this guy and there was a semi in the left lane, someone was certainly watching over us that night. My car swerved back and forth at least 5 times, my kids were freaked, i had absolutely NO control over my car and I kept thinking it was either going to roll or flip at any moment. I think the only thing that did save us was that I drive a honda civic, and it is very low profile to the ground. Had I been in my husbands 4X4, we probably would have rolled it. When I finally regained control after those few seconds that seemed like they lasted an hour, my legs and hands were shaking so badly. I don't even know if the idiot that pulled onto the freeway even knew that he almost caused serious injury to all of us.

well, still trying to work out the Cozumel details......

talk to you all soon........
smiles Patty

Is the wine package worth it??

From the information I could gather about a month or so back I did a calc, and unless you choose certian bottles from the premium list you really do not save that precius 25% that DCL advertises. I think if it a shared deal and everyone who is joinuing in likes the same wine, and taht they would consume two glasses or more regardless, then the deal has merit.

If on the otherhand we are now having a few cosmos as before dinner drinks, and maybe a margarita or two after, then the wine package begins to look less attractive. That is if we can even see by then.
;)

Patty why not join us at Mr. Sanchos, with the trampoline, wave runners and beach it should be a blast. PS just don't tell Guy about the Dos Exquis Girls selling three for two beers. I am not sure he would approve:rolleyes:

The rest of these poor peoples are going to think that we are
some real LUSHES!!!! personally it is a great way for us to be able to kick back and relax and not worry about too much.

smiles Patty

Hey the pool is open, the water is warm, everyone is welcome to join the party. Whatever that means:smooth:

I was shopping this past weekend and found my new themed Tee shirt,
Parrot Pirates of the Caribbean:bounce: :bounce:

OK, for the record and I have my serious face on now, IT IS NOT MY WEBSITE!!!! I don't even like cosmos. In fact anything more exotic than a whiskey sour or scotch rocks is more than I can handle. Beer, actually, works just fine. For all my new friends who think my dw and I are lushes well, we'll all have to gather around a big table at the Promenade lounge and see who is the last one standing!!!:p :smooth: I can't tell you how much we are looking forward to meeting you all.

vis a vis the prem. wine package: we ordered the most expensive wines on the list of which Camus Conundrum is a personal favorite of ours and my wife and I probably broke even or came out a little ahead. But remember they make a lot of their profit from alcohol sales on these cruises and the margin for them is probably pretty close. So, I think it is a good deal, especially if you split the expense with a new friend and his or her spouse.:bounce: :smooth:

I love that this thread is so active.

Cheers! Wes

I hope I didn't offend you....LOL! I didn't think you had to drink them to make them........;) I just figured you were DD's (Dear Debbies) BB (best Bartender). :smooth:
smiles Patty

Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences...

Sher, I am so glad to hear your MIL is doing better! How can we go without you? Like someone said before, you started this thread - you have to go!

Bonnie, I hope your DSIL pulls through and beats this thing.. With her youth and the help of wonderful family members like yourself, I am sure she will do great. :D

To Bob and the others who live in the area of these terrible snyper events, hang in there!! With the wonderful effort the police are putting into catching this person, I am sure it's just a matter of time...

You are all right about worrying about the little things, you know. It's not worth it. This is something I am working on. I am such a perfectionist and such a planner!! I have tried to change that but I can't really. What I try to tell myself is: Whatever comes of it, I know I tried my best.

Well, I am just about ready to go on our trip.. Just a few little detals to take care of.. We are so excited! :Pinkbounc :

P.S.

:bounce: :bounce: GO DOLPHINS!!! :bounce: :bounce:

Talk later,

Denise

down to the upper 20's low 30's in the morning. Time to take everyone's shorts away and start packing them. I looked at my calendar and realized that I only have 3 more weeks to Work.....Woohoo!
Called the Tux shop today, the guys have to go and get fitted and order what they want.....trying to decide if I should let them go alone..........Or go and make sure they get something great.....(mutt was convinced he was going to get the "ZOOT" suit last year)....NOT! Hair appointment for everyone on the 28th....
got the other Mutt (tanner the yellow lab) his reservation at the Kennel. They just rebuilt it and called it a Pet Lodge with its own spa, bakery etc. (OMG!) It even has "SUITES" with actual kids beds! I told them to give me something LARGE and CHEAP! Aren't I awful.
We leave town 3 weeks from Thursday. Time to start pulling it all together.
I still need to call the Radisson and have the 2 seperate reservations linked together. I'd hate to have to check out each night and move or something.
Have a great day!
smiles Patty

Patty,
Sounds like your dog is going to have a nice vacation too! LOL!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my DSIL. She's doing as well as can be expected. She starts chemo in 2 weeks. Her son, my beautiful DN(nephew), who is 1 month old, is such a joy and blessing at this time. He certainly gives her a reason to fight! My DM is supposed to go with us on the cruise, but I think she may want to stay home now with DB and DSIL. I think she could really use this vacation though.

Well, Only 3 more weeks! YEAH!!!

Have a great day!!!!

Bonnie

I've been watching and waiting and watching and waiting........My fare dropped on Delta and I called them first thing this morning and I get a credit Voucher.......Its only $35 but hey, why not take it.......;)

smiles patty

Still sending loads of Pixie dust your way.....please spread it sufficiently between DSIL, DN and DB. :) :) :) I'm sure they will all need lots of it.

Bob- sounds like the sniper is still at work. It must really be
terrible.

Sher- don't stay away for such long periods. But, I'm sure that you are really busy packing, since you are leaving so soon.

well off to run errands......check back later.
smiles Patty
