Looking for information about TN...

I have lots of family in the Farrugut/ Lenoir City/ Loudon area, I would love to live down there- all 6 of my mom's sisters all live there. I live in Baltimore, Md. now.

Turkey Creek is the MECCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When we visit my family- we usually go for a week every year- and go to Turkey Creek at least 3 times. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If you are looking for a smaller town area check out Tri-Cities TN/VA area (Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City) it is a fanastic place to raise kids.

I live in Jonesborough and work in Kingsport myself. Also recently graduated (okay, a year ago but hey...) from ETSU. While there are times I miss being closer to a big city (I grew up 20 mins north of Chicago), I like the area over all. I take many a trip to Asheville and Sevierville and the area is constantly growing.

So you will be what they refer to down there as a "halfback". Someone who moved from the north to Florida, then half-way back!:)

We are currently looking for a place somewhere southeast of Maryville. We want to be close to our favorite road (The Dragon) and all our hooligan sport biker friends.:moped:

All I can say is that Obnoxiousville is the home of UT. Thank goodness Fulmer is finally gone... :rotfl2:

Roll Tide!!!

Sorry for getting back so late..

Job wise, I do computer tech support, DH, well he is not really in any industry(he works at Publix right now. He never recovered after his job loss). Honestly I am willing to career change if I could. I just am ready to be out of FL.

I will look at what has been mentioned. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think I have anything more to add to the pp, but I just wanted to join with my fellow Tennesseans! I grew up in Rogersville, currently live in Kingsport, went to ETSU in Johnson City, and then moved to Knoxville for 5 years. I have lived all over East Tennessee (at least as far west as Knoxville), and I can't say that one place is SO much better than another. All those cities have their perks. I really loved Knoxville, after being someone who hated it before living there (my mom convinced me that big cities were scary- LOL). It has a lot of great qualities. In fact, the only complaint I've ever had about it was the traffic. No matter how close some place is to you, you have to allow about 30 minutes to get there. But it really does have a small town feel in a medium sized city. Each suburb offers most everything you would need, and every thing you want is a short drive away. I lived in North Knoxville (Halls, Gibbs, Powell area), and I really loved it. If I moved back, though, I would probably move to the Bearden area. Or Cedar Bluff, as a pp mentioned.

I think you really can't go wrong with any of my previous residences. :)

If you are thinking about the Nashville area, I would suggest the Franklin/Mt. Juliet area. I would move there in a heartbeat. SUCH a cute area!

My DH was born and bred in Lenoir City. We lived there for 3 years and to me, it was pure hell but I was used to the Maryville area. LC has grown a lot and West knoxville is just moving farther and farther west. I can hardly tell Cedar Bluff from Farragut from LC...is it all just running together and getting very built up. I do love West Knoxville though! From maryville, I can be there easily is 15 to 20 mins.

The Dragon??!! You be very, very careful there. ! Too many fatal accidents on that road esp. with motorcylists!

Aren't we all happy he is gone? He actually lives here in Maryville though. And UT fans are obnoxious but most devoted fans are. BTW, I am only a Lady Vols fan.

You probably know alot of my family- I know it's a small city. Depending on your age, as to who you know.:lmao: 3 of my aunts and their kids all live there. Being from a large city(Baltimore), it sure was different- my Mom used to take my sister and I down for the whole summer to visit.

Haha...I bet my DH definitely knows your family members. He's from an old, big LC family. He's 48.

We are in Tennessee, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Knoxville or Nashville depending on which direction your headed......:rotfl: Chattanooga TN. We visit Knoxville quiet a bit but mainly for just either tourist type things zoo, fair, etc. or an occasional UT (no we are not UT fans, DH can't (the fans) stand them, but my brother is a huge fan and occasionally scores some free tickets and we get to tag along)game. The surrounding area is beautiful but traffic can also be a bit congested, not as bad as Atlanta. Hey if your open to other possibilities.....Chattanooga is home to the soon to be open Volkswagen plant......supposed to create lots of job opportunities in our area.

I live in Memphis (the western end of the state.)

Stay far away from here!

I'd go with eastern TN. The area around Knoxville is lovely, and I like Chattanooga as well.

I also lived in Memphis and I have to agree .... STAY AWAY
We like the Knoxville area, but sometimes the construction on I40 can be horrendous.

Oh yeah, I have Reno's, Bailes, Boling's, Redmond's, Perlov's- I have 2 cousins his age Troy and Brian- they probably know him. LOL

Thanks! We're very careful. Right down to 4 point racing harnesses in the cars.

There's an entire community down there that revolves around the road, and so many great people and friends. It's not so much about the driving which I prefer to take to the track myself.

Are you talking about the Tail of the Dragon? DH and I can't wait to take my Mazda Miata convertable there!
DBIL takes his there each summer and loves it!

Now, now... I have to step back in and defend my adopted city just a bit.

While our school systems are horrible, our property values are in the dumper while our property taxes are astronomical, our crime is the worst, and our politicians stink... I do enjoy parts of Memphis.

We have season tickets to the Memphis Tiger basketball games, those are awfully exciting. And going to a Redbirds game on a spring afternoon is as American as apple pie, a great family outing. Our zoo was just rated the best in America. You can get some great food around here, and FedEx and St. Jude are proud to call Memphis home. We have the National Civil Rights Museum, and Graceland as well.

It can be a nice place to visit, but you don't want to live here.

Just don't argue over a parking spot at Trinity Commons, girl! :thumbsup2

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Seriously, though...it's not funny. I was in Panera earlier that day. I live in the 'Dirty Dova' and I desperately wish I could move farther out your way.

The Tail of the Dragon is the name of the t-shirt shop across from the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort on the south end. The road itself is called the Dragon. If you call the road The Tail you'll be marking yourself as a noob :lmao:

I've lived in the Tri-Cities my whole life -- live in Erwin and work in Kingsport.
I've been to Erwin. I even spent the night there about 30 years ago.

My dad (pushing 90) had an older sister who lived there. I was driving to a new job in Pittsburgh and stopped to see her and her husband. She's been gone for a couple of decades so I hadn't heard that town mentioned in ages.

I live a couple of hours west of Memphis. I'm not tempted to go visit there. I did go see Lion King there several years ago - but we went to a matinee on purpose.

One time I was driving from New Orleans to Little Rock and went via Memphis (out of the way but all interstate) because of some road conditions. I was going to stop and spend the night - wow it was too scary, and I kept driving till I got to Little Rock about midnight.

I live part-time in New Orleans. I even walk my dog at night - but Memphis SCARES me.
