Looking for info on ordering a food item at CS places w/o chips/apples for $2 less...

I read on EasyWDW that you can evidently order some food items without the chips/apples that are listed as part of the meal. You save $2 off the meal price in such cases. Does anyone have more info on this? Where and what meals is this an option?

I think I'd rather save my $2 for other food items some of the time.

The Menu Boards you see at WDW Quick Service restaurants show combos with an entree and side, and you get the impression that these are your only choices. However, any entree you see on the Menu Board can be ordered a la carte. It's one of those "insider secrets" that doesn't get a lot of fanfare. Savvy families will select one combo meal, let's say with fries, then the remainder of the order will be entrees only. Everyone will share the one order of fries.

I'm not sure of the savings by not getting the side, and it's probably based on what side comes with a combo plate. Just a few days ago someone asked if Pizzafari pizza could be ordered without the side salad (yes). And awhile back someone posted that if you see a child's meal that comes with a toy, you could skip the toy and get a price reduction. The savings would definitely add up over a week's vacation.

Just wanted to share that I've done this in the past with no problem. The past few years we had free dining so it wasn't so much an issue. Anyhow, a few year's back it was $2 off a burger combo without the fries.

The two of us do this all the time. Just tell the CM taking your order you want only the sandwich, and they will ring it up for about $2 less. If you want, you can also order just a side item--although it's not listed on the menus. For example, we might order a single pizza/salad combo & add a salad for $2 or so. Another thing a lot of people don't realize, is you can get free ice water at the counter service locations. The water at almost all of these locations is much better than the drinking fountain or tap water. This does save some money, but our big reason for doing this is to keep from overloading on the fries & soda!

We have ordered adult CS entrees without fries and it was about $2 less. I think the apple slices come with children's meals, I'm not sure if it is allowed to forgo the sides with those meals and what the savings would be.

I've done this at nearly every CS place.

At lunch time I don't like to eat tons so I just order the sandwich or burger and a drink - no sides. There wasn't a problem ordering it that way.

Apple slices, some times grapes, also come with adult meals. Also you can order those sides by themselves.
