Hi, somewhere I read a post about the Chip and Dale's campfire and movie at Fort Wilderness. Does anyone have information about this event. Do we sit on logs? Is it nightly? Is there a sign up? Any info and feedback appreciated, thank you!

The movies are nightly. A sing a long first, with a Disney movie to follow. They do have some benches (with backs) up front and stadium bleachers in the back. It depends on what time of the year you go, summer months start at 8:00 but changes with Daylight savings time. There are two fire pits on either side of the area that you can make smores (suggest you bring your own makings) There is also a chuck wagon that sells hot and cold drinks and food. There is no sign up needed, just show up. We usually bring our own chairs if staying for the movies and the kids bring blankets and spread them out in front of the movie screen. Bug spray may be needed. It is a tradition for the kids to find Ms. Sundee (who usually does the sing a long) and chit chat with her, but we go so often, she is now a family friend. It is a definite must do if you are at the campground.

The campfire is at the Meadows which is the main pool area at Ft Wilderness. When we went last month we parked at the outpost parking area, took the bus to the Meadows and walked past the pool to the campfire (I think it is poorly marked, so don't be afraid to ask directions). We bought smore fixins at the snack building (it was $5 for a bag of marshmallows, Hershey bar and single pkg of graham crackers plus 2 sticks for roasting). You can buy extra sticks (they are actually dowels) for .33 each. There is about 40 minutes from the time the event begins and the movie starts. In that time, we roasted marshmallows, sang along with Ms. Sundee and had a greet time with Chip and Dale.

Since we were there in Sept (before the time change) the campfire started at 8 pm and the chuck wagon stayed open until 10 pm.

I think a flashlight would be a good idea. There are paved paths, but they are not well lit. We definitely used and needed bug repellent. There is a drinking fountain beside the chuck wagon (there were small cups set out with the napkins) and there was a path behind the wagon that led to the restrooms.

It's not a bad price for the roasting kit. Or you could just buy a bag of marshmallows for like a $1 or two. Smores are way to sweet for me, and I enjoy munching on marshmallows more. Or bring along your own.
There's two fires off to the side, so it's not like you're watching the moving while your stick catches fire.
Just check the movie guide and pick a night you want to go. We've done it twice. And once the movie starts there aren't as many kids at the fire pits.
