Does anyone have any good ideas for decorating the trunk of a car for a Trunk or Treat party. DD5 is having one at her school and wants to go AND decorate our trunk but I'm just not coming up with very many ideas. Looked around in Target at the decorations, but they're not cheap and I also don't want to collect a lot of junk for this.

I watched a Martha Stewart Halloween decorating special the other night and got the idea for DH to dress up and make up kind of ghoulishly and pretend to be dead in the trunk holding the bowl of candy and when people reach for the candy, he suddenly jumps up :scared1::rotfl2:. Don't worry, DH wasn't too thrilled with my idea anyway, and I really would worry about scaring the little ones.

Anyone out there have any ideas? Has anyone else done this that can tell me how you decorated?

Thank you very much for your help.

When we've gone to trunk or treat most of the cars weren't made up majorly. Most of the trunks were for candy holding....they would have a couple of big rubbermaid type tubs with the candy in there. If you have a dollar store or dollar tree near by look there...you should be able to find some halloween garland and maybe a couple of little things you could hang from the trunk very inexpensively and a package of the spider web that you can spread out.

Ah well ours is over the top.

Last year some of the ones I remember- The SHARK car- with the open minivan decorated to look like a sharks' mouth- teeth ect. All kind of junk hanging from the inside that would be in the sharks mouth like a fish, boot ect.

Anther car did a fog machine and made a Harry Potter trunk. With those screaming plants? I have no idea how he did that.

So ours is more than just throwing a tub in the trunk.

I'm thinking of turning my VW Bug into a spider? Problem is the trunk is so tiny. If I use the minivan I need to brainstorm some idea. I'm thinking blacklight graveyard type? Or maybe go the opposite with Pooh and Huffalumps and Woozles.

I saw one last year that was really neat & easy- It was a beach theme. There was a beach chair with a plastic skeleton in it, in sunglasses and a beach hat. There were beach pails filled with candy. The owner put down a tarp & spread some sand kind of spilling out of a tipped over beach pail.

Ours had an Alabama Crimson Tide football theme last year. We have a set of "football guys" which are like army men but they are in different football stances, complete with referees and a mat that looks just like a field. We hung flags and banners all around and set the football guys up and then had the fight song playing. Then we all dressed up and painted our faces. It was a blast! I love trunk or treat nights. Have fun!

The top photo at this site is a family from ours last year! Dad is an artist and they do it up BIG The ones right below are the graveyard they did they year before.

Wow! Thank you everyone for all the great ideas. Some of those cars in those links were just amazing! I really never thought about decorating the car with themes other than Halloween/ scary type stuff. While I can't see us spending the time on this that some people do, that opens up a lot more possibilities. Thanks again for all the great advice.
