Looking for ideas for a camp activity

I volunteered to be in charge of our Family Retreat activity one evening. This would be for 50-70 people, age range maybe 8-70. Something everyone can participate in. For example, last year it was a scavenger hunt. We numbered off to break into teams and did a scavenger hunt.

I was thinking of an Olympic theme. Break into teams and give them a list of the events, then they can choose who will do what event from their team. Some events would have to be easy enough for the older set, others more active.

An example of an event would be a game in which we blow up a balloon and tie it to each player's ankle (string would be a couple feet long). Stomp on other players' balloons and the last person with an unpopped balloon wins.

Any other ideas would be appreciated, or even a different, simpler idea altogether! I am a little nervous being in charge and having several games to put together and keep the group on task. It would be easier to pass out a scavenger hunt list but I didn't want to repeat!

Thanks!

Have t-shirts made up "Family Retreat 2010 or XXXX(Fill in name) Retreat 2020, you get it...then tie die them? IDK, this is a hard one, lol:)

Thanks, hopefully can come up with something with minimal financial investment ;)

We will have use of a basketball court too if the weather is good.

Hula hooping could be an event, my daughter would have a good chance of winning!

just take care with the balloon stomp-at camp sites you have some folks in sandles and some in boots-you can end up with injured ankles and toes if someone with boots gets too zealous.

donut eating contest is always a big hit at my kid's school's outdoor family event. they get glazed donuts, tie them to strings of various lengths (depending on height of participants), then suspend them from a long dowel or broom stick that two people hold above their heads (even better is if you have a jungle gym to tie them to). it's great fun watching people try to speed eat those donuts (no hands) without biting through the portion that keeps it from falling to the ground.

Have you seen Minute to Win It on TV? They have a list of a lot of the games here: http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to/. You could use some of those as your Olympic games. Most of them only require basic household items, there are things that people of all ages can do, and it's hilarious to watch. My school did this at the end of the year - staff was divided into teams, and the kids were the audience. It was fantastic.

Great stuff here, and more current since it's not an Olympic year.
Thanks!

Okay, my kids and I have tested and picked out 10 games. Now I just need to figure out how to handle scoring, dividing into teams, and how long this is going to take! I want everybody to play at least one game, but I don't know how many people will be there. I guess if I have 10 games, I need 10 or fewer in each team.

I'm thinking I will hand out the list of game names to each team, and they will have to decide which team member will do each game, before they know what it involves.

Guess I'm thinking out loud, but if anybody has any tips on how to score, etc. let me know!
