My DDs decided to join Girl Scouts this year. We are all having fun with it, but it's more $$$ than I thought it would be. (Isn't everything these days!:confused3)
Anyway, both of the girls are super excited about starting cookie sales in a few months. The youngest decided she wanted to dress in a cookie costume to help add to her sales. I thought this sounded like a cute idea, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the Girl Scouts do indeed have "Cookie" costumes for this. However, they are $60 each! :scared1:
I checked E-bay and nothing on there, but OREO costumes. Just wondering if any of you have one of these costumes laying around. (I know we're not supposed to sell stuff on here, but maybe I could find something to trade?), or maybe someone would know where I can get one cheaper than on the Girl Scout site I found.
I'd like to get this for her, but we're spending as much on the Girl Scouts as we possibly can now! A $60 costume just isn't in the budget.
Thanks for any info!:thumbsup2

Ask your council. Our troop was able to borrow some for our group sale.

Thanks for the idea. I may be able to get one that way for a few days, but I highly doubt it.
Our council covers a LARGE area (most of 2 states), with a few cities included, and we're in a super small town, so I really would hate to try to rely on the slim chance that we MIGHT be able to get one that way. I'd rather try to find one, and then donate it to our Troop once, my DD doesn't need it anymore.

Have you considered making one? You could get 2 large pieces of posterboard and cut out circles. Decorate the circles to look like your favorite Girl Scout cookie. Then you can punch holes in the top of the "cookies" and connect them with yarn. Then it will just hang over your daughter's shoulders. If you wanted to make it look a little nicer, get some inexpensive light brown felt or fleece and cut out the same size circle as the posterboard and glue it onto the cardboard. You could use scrap pieces of material to glue on "chocolate chips" or other decorations. Just an idea and has to be cheaper than $60. I would think you could do it for $25, maybe cheaper.

Our council covers a large area as well and they had costumes. I got costumes for one of the weekend sales and the girls refused to wear them. Only the younger girls wanted them so we had them available most of the time.

We used to borrow them from council all the time but then had a whole lice issue (don't know if it was from the costume or not) so we don't borrow that anymore!

I'm not really what you would call "crafty", my projects usually don't turn out looking like what their supposed to be. :rolleyes1 However, if I can't find anything else I'm going to try to go this route.

Wow!:scared1:Hadn't thought of that. Yeah, might want to make sure if we find one, or borrow one, to wash it good. Thanks!

Our Council covers a large area, we have multiple sets of the costumes for the girls to borrow. The newer costumes are not padded or anything, they wipe down easily (I wipe them down before I let the girls wear them).
If you decide to make the costume, I'd use brown felt on a round poster board (I would glue it, but you could probably staple it). Then use green paint or just buy the stick on letters to say THIN MINT. Thin Mints outsell all other cookies, they are called the same thing by both bakers, and we sell them every year. That means the costume can always be used. Other cookie names vary by baker--and councils can change bakers.
Frankly, have her wear her uniform. Make sure she knows how she earned her tryits/badges etc. People love to see the girls in uniform and love to ask questions about the insignia. The girl who can answer sells a lot of cookies.
If you have questions, pm me. I'm a troop cookie mom, service unit cookie manager and I'm on the Product Committee for our Council. I've been doing this for too many years to talk about, so I've seen it all.

as silly as this may seem, the girls in my troop would wear the cookie boxes if we couldn't get the costumes. You may not want to do that, but we had fun wearing them.

Since I'm my daughters troop leader, when I'd go and pick up our cookie orders for booth sales, they have the cookie costume that you can borrow for free. You just sign a form and have to return it within so many days. If you aren't the leader I'm not sure you can do it, but talk to your daughters leader.

I learned about the costumes on this board late last year. When I mentioned it to our leader she didn't know anything about them ( and she had been a leader for 4 years). We made a request to the council and we were able to get 2 for the entire time. We have a very large coucil but they have a handful to loan out. My daughter and a friend even made up a short chant/cheer to do. It was great for attention. I also took empty boxes and taped them together in a circle. I then slide it over a hat.

Good Luck with your sales.
