I just made my ressies for my October 2010 visit for my brother's wedding. Just wondering if anyone has any good Gluten free and milk free reviews of the following restaurants:

Rose & Crown
Cape May Cafe (dinner)
The Wave (breakfast)
Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner)
50's Prime Time Cafe
Coral Reef
Kona Cafe (dinner)

I've heard of gluten free folks getting yummy fried chicken at 50's Prime Time, but I'm wondering if that has milk in it.

I'd love to hear any reviews or tips! :thumbsup2

Can't wait for this trip...next step, getting our tickets for Oct. 12 for MNSSHP!

Of those, I've only eaten at 2 (well, we did breakfast at Cape May and LOVED IT).

50s Prime Time: They were wonderful for GFCF. While they do carry the allergy chicken strips, back when we went they didn't have these at WDW so they hand made some for DD. They hand made me some really tasty fried chicken. YUMMY! They can make GFCF milk shakes and brownie ice cream sundaes as well. Definitely a good choice.

The Wave: We ate there for dinner, not breakfast, but I have to comment anyway. This is the one meal after which DD ended up throwing up all night. I simply can NOT recommend them. I'm pretty sure it was the chocolate milk but the waitress and chef insisted that they did everything right. This was the only place where the milk was brought out in a glass instead of the single serving containers. We did ask if it really was Silk Soy milk because of this and the waitress insisted it was, but considering the fact that DD at a sauceless steak with corn nibblets and margaring on the side (the chef brought that out himself to confirm that Earth Balance was ok for her; we use it at home so yes it is) and fresh fruit along with Tofutti ice cream which she ate all week, that's the only thing it could have been. They took no responsibility at all for the fact that she got sick (the chef barely even said sorry when we called about it). We met another family a few days later whose daughter got food poisoning there. We did email Disney after our trip about our concerns for food safety at the Wave and they said they'd definitely address it so most likely it's now fine, but we'll never be back.

We'll be eating at Coral Reef, Kona and Cape May for dinners in August. From everything I've read, these are all great choices.

Wow, I'm so excited at the possibility of having a GF/CF milkshake at 50's Prime Time! That sounds so fantastic  Oh and Fried Chicken sounds right up my alley!

Oh my goodness...what a horrible experience you had at the Wave. The fact that the Chef took no responsibility for making your child sick is absolutely unacceptable. How awful. I'm very glad you reported it though to Disney, because these types of experiences are important for them to know about, otherwise they can't fix it. Though, I still don't understand why Chefs don't take responsibility for these things when they happen...or at the very least be apologetic, and it doesn't like this chef was. :confused3 Thank you for letting me know about this. Now I'll be EXTRA mindful when I go there for breakfast, although this seriously makes me reconsider that choice!

I look forward to hearing reviews of the some of your dining choices in August! :thumbsup2

I can't speak for Milk free.. But I can tell you which places were better than others:) for GF

Rose & Crown- haven't eaten here since GF

Cape May Cafe (dinner) Had a really great experience 6 out of 7 visits.
One visit was not good- chef was not the one I was used to and he really didn't seem to care. I would question carefully.

The Wave (breakfast)- never had breakfast here, only lunch , now we have eaten here 5-6 times , going back next weekend and I have never had an issue. Mgr and chef to my table each time. manager brought all food and drinks for me. I have heard some have issues there though as PP said.

Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner)Great experiences all the time! have eaten here at least 15 times. could not eat stuffing or Mac & cheese BUT they always being me a special plate as it is family style.

50's Prime Time Cafe - NEVER any chef issues for me here. I like this place for it's originality for allergy needs.

Coral Reef- Went two times.. ehh not my type of place. Had friends go with allergies and they were served nicely. had a few choices. I just wasn't happy with what they offered- it was all me and not them though as I was pouty and wanted something they couldn't give me :(

Kona Cafe (dinner) had dinner here- had no allergy issues- it's been a while since we ate here.

I always quiz the wait staff and chef carefully and be very stern ( in a nice WDW way :) about my needs.

the really only place I have ever had bad issues was CP.
we are going back in a month and I hope the chef is either different or has a better attitude.

Thanks for the tips.

I agree, you should always make sure you know what you are getting because the chef's don't always know everything on the allergies/intolerances.

Great reviews/tips. Very helpful! Looking forward to LTT and 50's Prime Time for sure! :thumbsup2
