My brother(57) lives with my parents and has Covid today. My parents(79) and will most likely get it because he’s been sick a few days and I just made him test.
My daughter and I do not live with them but we’re going to share a cabin for a February 27 Nola cruise.
The cruise is in my name. My daughter and I do not live with them. If either of my parents were gravely ill, we would not want to go. But if they are recovering, but not well well enough to travel at their age, could we still go?
The reservation was made early last year, so I’m not sure what policies were in place for that time period. Does anyone know how to find out what the rules were back then? I know there’s been a policy change and I don’t know if I’m under old or new rules since I purchased a 11 months ago.
If they get Covid, do I need to have them get a letter from the doctor saying they are recovered?
Assuming they will get it in the next couple days. We are at day 25 and counting. Infection will be more than 11 days before they have sailed. My father takes immune-compromising drugs for his transplant, so I’m sure it’s coming. Mom quite possibly could skate through, but dad….probably not.
Anybody have recommendations for our trip? I want to be financially secure and not lose any money on this. Could postpone until May but not sure it’s necessary right now. Plus hard to get last minute handicap room.

Sorry your brother is ill. Hopefully it helps you to know your parents are not necessarily going to become ill. I had Covid last fall and nobody else in my household caught it, including someone of similar age and concerns as your parents. It's a funny virus in that way, but if your parents are vaxxed they stand a good chance of staying healthy.

On to your question...I believe you could cancel individuals from the reservation without cancelling everybody in the stateroom, since you do not all live in the same household. Your reservation does fall under the "old" Flexible Refund policy which allows for cancellation with full refund for Covid-related reasons (see link) within 14 days of embarkation.

Because Disney is no longer requiring COVID testing before boarding, as long as your parents are not symptomatic and are feeling well enough to travel, you shouldn't need a letter from their doctor. Of course, if they do become infected, they should consult with their doctor(s) before going on the cruise to make sure they don't have lingering symptoms that need treatment or would preclude safe travel.

Under the old Flexible Refund policy (which fits OP's reservation timing) there was no documentation required to cancel.

OP - rescheduling at this point could be tricky because you are already within the penalty phase. I think the temporary "Cruise Date Flexibility" policy has ended -- that was the one that allowed date changes within 15-60 days without penalty. I'd hold off a couple of weeks and see how your parents are feeling. Hopefully they will be fine and you'll all go on your cruise as planned.

I had Covid and tested positive hours before my parents were leaving for Hawaii. They were going with my brother because I don’t like Hawaii and I was taking care of the dogs. Out of caution I canceled their trip because I didn’t think it was safe to have my father in Hawaii with a possible life-threatening illness. Turns out three days later he did come down with Covid. And I don’t believe at the time that Hawaii would’ve let him fly home either so he would’ve had to stay there.
Call Disney. Give yourself peace of mind.

Give a simple explanation - if my parents are recovering from Covid and are not on the mend when it is time to cruise, what are our options? Straight forward.

Last time I called, I did not have time to listen to music - it went straight to an agent.

[Hoping the best for them. I also take immunosuppressant drugs and got Covid. I thought I had bronchitis (which, technically, it was - viral). It did take a while to fully shake it and I might not have wanted to cruise, but it wasn’t a bad case. More about recovery than a bad illness. You won’t know how it hits them until it happens and then recover.]. Hence, it would be nice to know your options.

Do they have a travel insurance policy (not just DCL, but one that covers medical evacuation, care, cancel for any reason, transportation, lodging…)?
I did do the Disney insurance and we had the Covid policy so I figured that was safe enough. I did not get additional insurance. So I think I’m safe. I did buy my airfare a few days ago so I am going to get an insurance policy for that one today. It’s through Spirit Airlines and I did pay additional money to get their highest value ticket so it’s probably not necessary, but I’ll do it all the same.

I hope all goes well for your family. Sounds like you're on top of all of this.

It hits people so differently. I caught it from my Mom who has COPD and is in her 80's. She was fine in about 5 days. Hubby caught it from me. Both of us were sick as dogs for 3 weeks and another 1-2 weeks for "recovering." We were all fully vaxxed. We had to cancel the trip of a lifetime and were so disappointed.
