OK, these are the BEFORE photos of the LR:

2008_0801Bucky0062.jpg

And AFTER:

I moved the furniture and moved the sofa table to the wall with the mirror from the foyer.

LR1.jpg

This is the slipcover I bought, that I"m returning. I didn't get it perfectly straightened, but I think it would work fine. I just wanted to brighten the room. Since it's no longer available for the sofa, it's going back.

LR2.jpg

And this shows the burgundy in the pillows.... I think if I get deep gold pillows, it will downplay the burgundy, so it will be the sage and gold.

LR3.jpg

This shows the DR a bit - I'm going to paint the same color as the LR and the rest of the living areas downstairs, then a deep red under the chair rail.

LR4.jpg

This is the foyer BEFORE (but messy!):

2008_0801Bucky0067.jpg

This is the antique phone table from Jeff's great aunt. I need to refinish it and recover the cushion - think I'll use the fabric I used for the drapes in the family room - green/gold/beige/red.... then I need to get a new area run for the foyer..... This is the print that was on the LR wall over the sofa before...

Foyer.jpg

I'm torn. I like the sofa table in both places - foyer and LR wall. But I like to showcase that little phone table, too.

Okay, you asked so I'm being honest - I liked the sofa arrangement before. :confused3 I just like the setup better - but it isn't like anything is wrong with the new way.

As for the phone table - I'm having a hard time seeing what is different about the movement of that, but it looks a bit odd to me right by the door - I don't know. Maybe it is just because everyone has the table (me included) when you come in :confused3

I do really like the red though - and I'm not a fan of red furniture generally, but I REALLY like the way that looks. And the slipcovers have came a long way - looks nice. Too bad you can't get the sofa cover! :headache:

Again - I'm so not Martha, you should probaly go the opposite of what I think! :rotfl:

Okay, I see it now. I like the before on the table by the door too.

I bet you want to throw a brick at me now. :rotfl2:

If you do leave it like it is - I think it would look better to move the phone table where the curio cabinet was at. I just think it would be more of a focal point there.

I hate that curio cabinet - but it belonged to Jeff's aunt, too. I am thinking about a bench or something for right by the door in the foyer. I like the table there too! Wish I had a second table!!! I guess my big hangup with the BEFORE was the print over the sofa - it really didn't go. It had oranges in it, and with the burgundy in the sofa, yuck!!! But if I get rid of the pillows.... plus, I'm one of those people who get bored easily and like to mix it up!

What about some sort of nice bench with a stow away shoe container type thing (I'm thinking Pottery Barn). If you could find one that went well with the phone chair - that would be cute. I think that by the entrance, the antique is just too small and it looks lost. If you get something else to go with it - it would look better.

I didn't even notice about the picture but I see your point there.

I don't know Kara, I suck at decorating. :confused3 I'm not much help.

Lorrie - why do I get the feeling that we are bouncing back and forth between this thread and your PTR???? :rotfl2:

I agree that the phone table gets lost. Now I'm lost!!! Oh, and I didn't even get the end table and lamp in the pic that have nowhere to go now! I'll probably end up switching it back. The wall color makes a huge difference for me (even though it was lightened up a lot in the photos). It really warmed up the room, now that the God awful peach is gone!!!

So cute! And, I can't believe how much older she looks from when I last saw her! Is taking good care of them?

Okay, you asked so I'm being honest - I liked the sofa arrangement before. :confused3 I just like the setup better - but it isn't like anything is wrong with the new way.

Ok - so just to be difficult - I like the new arrangement better. The old way was fine - just too linear for me (does that make sense?) I don't know - just think the way those sofas were lined-up facing each other - looks combative.

Not crazy about the phone table in the foyer either. Like Lorrie said, something about it there just doesn't look right. Looks like it sticks out.

So listen to this phone call I just got.............from the Disney Vacation Club.

DVC is always looking for pictures of DVC families to put in their publications, so I submitted one of the girls and I w/Mickey and Minnie from around the holidays (have no idea what year). Anyway, they're using it for the new DVC planning guide that is coming out in the spring. It goes out to ALL of the DVC members!!!! She is fedexing me a release to sign and then it's good to go!

How about that girls? You can now brag that you're friends with a model!:snooty:

the two martha's are making me laugh....:rotfl2: my furniture doesn't move much. I do love the red slip cover though. The new slipcovers are so nice. SureFit has a great website that you can order direct from. Take a look there before you return the one you don't like.

Debbie- didn't mean to ignore your question. we decided on the flower garden versus the petals. Not a fan of the program but they have earned the watering can and the main patch. don't ask me which petal they relate to. sorry I can't be more help. We are going to bridge to brownies in May and have to get all the other things done. There just isn't enough time. Looking forward to brownies so we can be more on our own, doing our own try-its.

I have just sent one friend home and two more are on the way. Love multiple playdates in a row. BTW Lorrie the girls painted the kitchen table. :scared1: it came off. I guess I should have paid more attention. :rolleyes1 oh well a good dis call was worth it.

YES! She is doing a GREAT job taking care of them! :goodvibes

Combative - I love it! But I agree about it being too linear, and I like the way this seems to open up the room a little.

That is fantastic!!!!! I am so excited for you! How can I room with you in May? I'll feel so inferior! :lmao: That is another incentive to buy a DVC!!! I'll use any excuse I can get! :rotfl2: Oh, speaking of DVC - ya know the temp tattoo I put on my leg? I can't get the darn thing to come off!!!! :scared1:

  It is set up like that for when BSIL visits! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Quick Kara, move it back! :goodvibes

And as for the model- we'll we all knew how cute you are. PS - make sure they send a complementary issue to EX for his coffee table too! :lmao:
]:scared1: See - mine would have painted the walls! Reminds me - need to clean our TV again, becuase someone colored it orange! :lmao: It was very good to talk to you :goodvibes Thanks for the advice!

Okay, still awake - when I'm up, I feel like crap, when I'm laying down, its okay, but I must have rested too much -not sleepy. I really needed to make some calls and work on the taxes.

Kara, I like the new paint much better! I agree with Cammie about the "before" arrangement - I would have liked it if the table was in front of the window, maybe. I think the phone table is cute, but it does sort of look like someone placed it there and forgot it on their way out the door. It might look better in another corner.

I just had a mental picture - Kara reads a post here - runs into the room and makes changes - reads another post - runs back out and moves furniture again....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We need a meet at your house so we can arrange your furniture!:goodvibes

Love the sexy tatoo!:thumbsup2

Cammie - I posted on your TR, but your pic in DVC!!!! Can I get your autograph? I love Lorrie's suggestion to send the ex a copy!:rotfl:

I'll be asking all of you for help in the Fall when the kiddos move out - need to paint and replace the carpet, probably recover the furniture, replant the grass....:rolleyes1 I never have decorated really since we moved in 6 years ago - it was acceptable, so I just went with it - Jim and I don't do "projects" well together. Just don't ask me to run back and forth with the couch on my back!:rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Have a great "hump day!" (I know you're out there Tessa!:) )

Yep - I'm still here - and yep, it still makes me giggle.....

Links in with after seeing Kara's post about the tattoo too - the way to get rid of a temporary tatt is a using loads of baby oil - so 1 hubby, 1 bottle of baby oil and hump day too --:rolleyes1 too late now of course, but the thought was there...

OK, here's my biggy..... does anyone know of any good books that explain "the facts of life" to kids??? My eldest (8) has started asking questions I'm not really prepared for, so need some "words". We've had the "yes - babies come out of down there talk" - went to see the nurse for something and she had her graphic antenatal pictures up on the wall (cross section diagram of baby coming down the birth canal) - gee thanks....:scared1: But now we have the doozy of how did it start growing there..... and can I stop one from starting to grow etc...... I feel like taking her back to the nurse and saying -" here - she wants to talk...."

We allayed her fears - that one would just start growing etc, but haven't really tackled the issue if you know what I mean... any advice welcome....

Tessa

Oy vey! I can't even bear to think of this! I don't know of any good books, but if you find one, PLEASE let me know! Ally turns 8 this month and she is starting to ask questions too. She still thinks that the dr cuts a baby out of the stomach, and I'm okay with that for now... But she also got caught with her little friend when they were talking about playing "the gross game." All I know is that they talked about this while they were changing clothes together playing dress up and they said not to get dressed to play the "gross game." :scared1: Luckily the other mom overheard them and stepped in. It just kills me that Ally knows the word "sex" but doesn't really know what it means yet. She knows that it's when a boy and girl are naked together and kissing. At least that is how she explained it to me. I of course told her it's when a husband and wife are together. That's as far as we've taken it.

So cute that she was afraid of a baby just suddenly popping up though. It's scary what kids are seeing on TV any time of day now. You can turn on a rerun of Friends at 5pm and see two people in bed together. :sad2:

So last night I ran to Target and got a tiny camera case for Jeff to clip on his belt, and I got two gold pillows that are perfect on the couches! I think I'm gonna stay away from the slipcovers for now.

And yes, I do run back and forth after reading y'all's suggestions!!! :rotfl:

While we were at Target, there was a family with a screaming 3-4 year old. I mean tantrum screaming. The parents just ignored him. For 20 minutes of this. We could literally hear this kid from all over the store. People were giving them dirty looks the whole time because this was just ridiculous. At one point the mother walked him down the toy aisle very sweetly saying, "no, you're being ugly so you don't get this today...." while the kid just screamed and stomped, etc. It was AT LEAST 20 minutes cause that's how long we were there. The dad just pushed the cart and ignored him, and the mother just walked along holding his hand, and sweetly talking to him. I'd have sweetly taken a hand to his hide!!!! Seriously, what is wrong with people???? Even Ally kept saying, Mommy, they need to spank him for acting that way!:rotfl2:

The American girl has a book. I think it's called the owners guide to me o something. The screaming kid kills me too

The American girl has a book. I think it's called the owners guide to me o something. The screaming kid kills me too

Just want to chime in here real quick before reading everything else........

The American Girl book is "All About Me". I can't find Lauren's copy right now but I'm pretty sure they don't address the sex/baby issue though. It's more about educating girls about their changing bodies: period; bewbs; hair growing in new places; the need for deodorant, etc............. Good book - I recommend it for a starter.

As for "where do babies come from?" I got a book recommended by my pediatrician "Where Did I Come From?" by Peter Mayle. The illustrations are cartoon characters but it does get down to the nitty-gritty (I'm talking nude, full-frontal cartoon characters). As an adult, I found the pictures hysterical, and so did Lauren at the time. But it is what it is; if you're having this discussion they need to see what you're talking about, right? And the fact that the pix did look somewhat silly, it took the edge off of what can be a uncomfortable conversation.
