Hi everyone! Our cold, rainy weather is making me feel very lazy! I can think of so many things I should be doing now, but I am relaxing on the couch, while DH is playing Wii. We just ran to Best Buy so he could get a shooting game with his Christmas card. I looked for a Scrabble game for my DS, but couldn't find one. I am going to watch a couple on eBay. DD14 is having a friend spend the night. DD10 has a friend over right now, but she and I will hang out together tonight and watch Gilmore Girls. She slept over at someone's house last night. She feels like she has to do that every weekend - have a sleepover here or there. I think every weekend is too much! We're snacking, so there goes dinner. Laundry and picking up is not getting done. I spent over 1/2 the day at DD14's district science competition. She didn't place there, but I was just glad that she made it there. It was fun. A nap sounds good, but I am drinking coffee so I can stay awake past 9pm tonight!:surfweb:

Tessa - Your homework sounds like more than ours! YIKES.

Debbie - Have fun at your wedding! I love going to weddings, especially the big ones where we get to dance. It's the only way we dance these days. I am sorry DD still has pneumonia. Poor baby. Poor you, too. I will be crying to you when we have over 100F during the summer. Trust me.

I am going to enjoy my laziness for a bit longer. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Pam2

Hi everyone!

Debbie, so sorry your family is still sick. Hope the wedding was a nice break out of the house for you.

Kara - congrats on quitting smoking! I'll have to check out those recipes!
Today, I put a whole chicken with lemon and herb seasoning on it in the crock pot, then when it was done, I turned it up on high, stirred some minute rice into the chicken drippings, and let it simmer for a little - made some steamed asparagus! Really easy and good!

Pam2, I remember my kids' fundraisers and them "20 bucking" me to death :rotfl: :rotfl: This time will be over before you know it. It does get hard to do everything sometimes.

Tessa - it does seem the kids have alot of homework these days! It looks like your schedule is about like ours here for the different ages. I always feel sorry for the kids who don't have someone at home to help them.

Have a happy Sunday! We're going over to spend the day with our oldest DS and bring our little DGS his Valentine gift

Well, I made it back! MIL and FIL loved the Disney goodies I made, even though DH was making fun of me! I about smacked him - after all, HE is the one who found the DIsboards 10 years ago and got me hooked! The trip was nice and we had some friends over for dinner on Saturday night (MIL is Italian so I asked for lasagna for dinner - yum!!!) and I bought all the X-Rated liquor and made "X-rated Vacations" for me and my girlfriend! Our family rented a house on Hilton Head Island last summer for a week with their family. The kids had a blast, and we all stayed up late each night playing cards on the screened in porch (nothing "x-rated" about the trip, but thought it was funny!). This house was awesome! Private pool and hot tub in the backyard, overlooking a lagoon and the 12th hole at Harbor Town Golf Links. Awesome vacation!

Debbie - I can't believe DD is still sick! I think maybe she needs some of Tessa's home cooking - chicken soup?? I feel so bad for you. Were you able to get out of the house this weekend for the wedding? I think I should have sent you a big pitcher of my "X-Rated" drinks!

Tessa - Your homework sounds about like ours here. What drives me nuts though is that we get the week's homework on Monday and it's due back on Friday. So I like Ally to get working on it first thing on Monday, but often times she doesn't understand it because they haven't started studying it yet, it may not be covered in class until later in the week. How are we supposed to know when to do it? We don't like to wait until Thursday night (been there, done that!), because it's usually about 30 minutes of vocabulary, spelling, and math. And she is supposed to be reading 15 minutes a night, too. But she reads so much on her own, I guess we're lucky that she looks forward to our Tuesday trips to the library!

Pam2 - DD is just now getting into the "Mom I need $ for this..." - she's in 1st grade. And the school is always sending things home, too. I feel like a loser if I don't help out, but I agree that it just gets to be too much. There's only so much we can do! Her old school in SC just picked a cause and went from there. Here, it seems like we're saving children, saving pets, saving education, saving everything! Oh, well... And did I tell y'all about the cafeteria money? Must've happened before I found this board... I got a call one day around 11am from DD's teacher telling me that she was out of money in her cafeteria account and she was hungry - could I bring her lunch? When I asked why I wasn't notified that her account was low, I was told that she's already had 3 free lunches and now all she gets is PB&J and DD hates jelly! No fruit, no veggie, no chips, nothing but PB&J because she already had her 3 "free" lunches. When I asked again why I was never notified that her account was low, no note home, nothing, her teacher explained that the cafeteria lady stamps DD's hand when it's low. I never knew to look for a stamp - and in fact, now that I know that, DD has come home with the faintest stamp because it washes off during the day! How stupid is that??? So I made lunch and marched my happy butt up to the school, went straight to her class to give her lunch (poor DD looked so pathetic!) then marched straight into the principal's office and laid into her. I'm surprised they didn't call security! I have never been so angry with a school! How dare they let my child go hungry because they have a stupid system in place??? Then I proceeded to go into all the other things that I hate about this school! And when we moved, I was adamant that we stay in this county because they have the "best" schools in NE Florida. Wow, was I ever wrong about this particular school! OK, I'll stop the rant for awhile!

Jillian - Enjoy the new camera! DH got me a new one for Christmas and I LOVE it! I was a photography bug in high school and college and my old Pentax just died. I wanted a digital SLR but they're still so expensive, and DH was afraid he couldn't work it, so he found a Fuji that has the option of setting your own aperture, focus, etc, OR leaving it fully automatic so it works for both of us! So far, so good!

To everyone - have a great week and get healthy!

Hiya all,

good to know it's not just this side of the ocean that we get loaded with homework....

Kara - I like your style - I would like to say that I would have told the head what for as well, but I am a pathetic wimp when it comes to confrontation..... HOW COULD they let a child be hungry!!!!

Well, I have started a pre trip report (link below) - never done one before for anything, but thought it would be nice to see if I do get round to everything we plan to do.....

Got to go now - have spent waaaaayyy too much time on the boards today.... - having an easy girly day - went shoe shopping this morning with the girls - well for trainers (sneakers??) for disney walking anyhow...

Hi Ladies,
Here's my update. I apoligize for not being caught up with what's going on with all of you yet......
DD went back to the doctor on Friday and they said she still has fluid in her lungs. I thought we were going to be getting the all clear but now we have to go back on Wednesday for another recheck. Her antibiotics ended yesterday which makes me a little nervous and the doctor still said no school or outside activities until at least the follow up appointment. I have to admit is making me a bit nervous. What happens if it is still there Wednesday? I don’t know. I feel so bad for her. She just acts like she has a cold and cough and needless to say we are all bouncing off the walls. I had that wedding, which my whole family was invited to on Saturday. That was a lot of fun. I almost thought we weren’t going to make it after the doctor’s appointment but my cousin and her DH said they didn’t mind still coming. They actually dropped their son off by her parents to come stay by me, which was very nice. The wedding was a blast! I was the designated driver (by choice) but we were still out until 2AM. It was a downtown wedding and the downtown Chicago weddings start late and go late!
Well, I have to get back to the grind. I was SO…… tired yesterday that I was a walking zombie and did nothing. I rarely do nothing!

Hopefully I will be back!

Debbie, I'm so sorry your DD is still sick. I'm surprised the doc didn't give another round of antibiotics or change them. I worked at the peds clinic and that's what our docs would have done. Hasn't she been sick for a month already?

Kara! It sounds like you had fun surprising your family with the Disney stuff! I saw on your ticker that you only have 11 days!
You must be so excited!!!!

We lost one of our tickers! :sad2: We saw DS yesterday, and they are wanting to move back here - DS has put in for his old job back at the base. Anyway their budget is not going to allow for any more output of cash - so we cancelled our cruise and we're looking at an all-inclusive to Puerto Vallarta - we're getting our money back, and even with airfare we'll have $1000 left over to spend from what we've already deposited! :thumbsup2

We plan to do another family cruise with all of us in a few years, and at least we still have our DL ticker!

Hey there !!! Hope everyone is feeling better and getting healthy. :flower3:

We, too, changed our ticker. Instead of 3 days at DL and a 7 night Mexican Riviera Cruise on the Magic at the end of June, we're doing 7 days at WDW and a 4 night Bahamas cruise on the Wonder in October. :yay:

We were originally doing the Mexico cruise with a bunch of friends - who all started dropping out for a variety of reasons. :confused3 So, I asked DS if he wanted to still go on the cruise in June or go to WDW instead. With no hesistation, he jumped on WDW. (That's my boy !!) But I still wanted them to experience a cruise, sooo -- long story short -- I calculated the cost for a new trip in Oct., compared it with the original DL/Mexico cruise costs and -- it comes out to be almost $400 cheaper to go to WDW and the 4 night cruise !!! Well, that was the selling point to DH (and the fact that we now have an extra 3 months to save money). So, that's the new plan.

Actually, this works out so much better for us. A June trip would have been pretty disruptive -- now DS can go to summer school and play summer league flag football. We were willing to forgo all this to cruise with friends, but now that they have all bailed, we'll go with Plan B. Hey, any excuse to go the WDW is great with me...:thumbsup2

OK, we've never done a cruise (I know I know!) and not sure how much we'd enjoy. I've started princing DCL for next year (again, moving to FL has to have some perks, right???) and of all the cruises, I know this would be our choice. We could actually go Carnival right out of Jacksonville and might try that for 3 days to the Bahamas, just to make sure we actually want to go on a longer cruise! With the exception of Disney, when DH and I go to Jamaica, we get "sand gravity" - we never leave our resort!!!! So we're afraid that a cruise would be too fast paced for us! I think we'd just want to explore the ship and enjoy all it has to offer, but then again, if we're in port I don't want to miss that either! See my dilemna? So I'd love to know if you've done lots of cruises, just DCL or if this is your first?

Debbie - I'm sooo sorry to hear that DD is still sick! I, too, would be concerned. I'll keep her in my prayers that she kicks this soon! Glad to hear the wedding was fun - you deserved to do nothing the next day! I'm sure it was worth it just to get out of the house!

Looks like some tickers have changed, but still there!!! One of ours is coming up - but just a weekend for P&PP. Don't know if we'll do any other parks the whole weekend. We're such commandos that we never enjoy the resort, so this time we may just spend Friday night at the resort (staying at POR) and maybe boat to DTD. Then Saturday morning maybe check out DTDW and hang by the pool in the afternoon (currently forecasting 80 that day!). Then head over to MK around 4 for P&PP. Then spend Sunday at US (using DH's cousin's VIP tickets!). So this will be a first for us - a relaxing Disney trip!

The weeklong trip with the whole family is not until May, so I still have some time to obsess!

Kara -- My cruising experience consists of a 3 night Carnival cruise out of LA to Ensenada, Mexico about 11-12 years ago -- it was more like a Spring Break weekend with a bunch of girlfriends. :rolleyes1

This will be our first DCL cruise (first cruise of any kind for the family). We're cruising for the experience on ship - not necessarily the ports of call. Being blessed with living in Hawaii, the beach excursions aren't too important for us. Though I think DH and DS will want to go swimming at Castaway Cay to say that they've swam in the Atlantic Ocean. :thumbsup2 I'm not sure what to do in Nassau, but I'm sure I can find lots of info. on the DIS' DCL boards.

We've been to WDW for the past two Octobers, and looking forward to another MNSSHP and Food and Wine Festival again -- yup, plan B is looking better and better. :cool1:

Kara, we did a 7 day Eastern on DCL in 2005, and we're hooked! I wasn't sure if DH would be busy enough - he's not the sitting around in the sun type. Anyway, there was alot to do, but you could also just sit and do nothing in several nice locations, too! The food and service and cleanliness were fantastic! It was really classy. I have talked to alot of people who have cruised on Carnival, and they have said it's just one big party boat with lots of drunk "youngins" Of course that was on the West Coast - maybe they do things differently in the East! :goodvibes I really don't want to do any other cruise line, although DS is trying to talk me into Royal Caribbean, so we'll see ;)

Keahi, you are going to have such a great trip! :thumbsup2

Hiya all,
never considered cruising myself- over here in the UK, it has a reputation for being elderly widows off on their own .... or any of the grey generation pottering about playing bridge/canasta...... so it seems weird to see all you young folks go on about cruising....

Kara - you've got to take loads of pics of the P&PP - We will be going to the one on 11th April - I am so glad there was something special whilst we are there... I want to know ALL about it.....

Had my hair done today - the lady sitting next to me was from Miami (!!!) , so when she heard me do the usual holidays-to-come chat with my stylist, she said we chose the BEST month, that it will be wonderful, the weather will be great and the kids will be awestruck - all without catching her breath...... do they all talk that fast downthere???? But she was so friendly and nice, telling me about living over there that I felt like I made a friend - so I hope that is an omen of things to come.....

Debbie - I do hope your DD is improving.....

OK, can someone please tell me how to quote partial posts? And how to put several quotes into a reply? I'm an idiot!:scared:

Tessa - Rest assured, I'll post more pics than y'all will want to see when we get back from P&PP! I do have a question though. Her Belle dress and shoes arrived yesterday and it's beautiful! I was saving it for Storybook Dining in Epcot in May (that same mornng I'm surprising her with BBB) but she wants to wear it to P&PP? Should I let her? I don't want to say "no" and then see lots of other little girls in their dresses, but I also don't want her to ruin it! I guess I shouldn't have shown it to her this morning. Plus, I suppose I should be excited that she wants to dress up! My little princess is back! princess: :yay:

That's really neat about meeting the lady from Miami! What was she doing getting her hair cut in England? Don't they have any good salons in Miami?

Keahi - No you don't live in Hawaii! That is awesome! But I guess it would make travel pretty expensive since there's not much car travel you can do, huh? We did a family trip to Honolulu and Kauai back when I was 12. I was too "cool" to want to do anything other than lay on the beach, but the parents wanted to sightsee. So all I remember was the Kahuku sugar mill - looking back, I'm thinking it was a tourist trap - is it still there?

One thing to keep in mind cruising the Atlantic in October - hurricanes! Make sure you get trip insurance! Last season was a mild hurricane season and they had forecast a major season, so this season may be worse. Plus, we used to live 3 hrs from the coast when we were in SC so we just got bad storms from the hurricanes if they came our way. Now that we are only 30 minutes from the coast, and we're in FL, you can count on a couple of evacutations this year! I'm not hanging around to find out what it's like!

I have heard that Carnival is a party cruise, too. But since they leave from Jacksonville, we can get last minute deals for like $300/person for 3 or 4 night cruises to the Bahamas. That would be worth it just to see if we even like the whole concept. Plus, the ships are smaller and older, so our travel agent (also my best friend!) said that if we're gonna do it, we need to do it BEFORE we get spoiled by the newer, larger ships of DCL or other lines.

Well, the HVAC guy should be here soon - the vent is not working in my office and it's FREEZING! I don't get any direct sun in here and so I bundle up in sweats and sweatshirts and then when I let the dogs out it's so hot! I'm surprised I haven't gotten sick yet!

Y'all have a great day!

Hi Kara -- To be honest, I have no idea what's the deal with the Kahuku Sugar Mill. I heard it was closed due to safety reasons or something like that. I've driven by the area lots of times and honestly, I haven't really paid attention. Sorry, I'm no help.:confused3

I've got my fingers crossed for a quiet hurricane season... but yes, we do have travel insurance.

Debbie - here's some pixiedust: for your DD. Hope she's feeling better.

Tessa - I'm going over to check out your pre-trip report.:surfweb:

Tammie - I think I'm looking more forward to this cruise than the Mexico one. I think it will be way more relaxed, and I won't feel like I'd be missing out if I stayed on ship instead of doing shore excursions. Also, I get to go to WDW, too. Who can beat that ??:thumbsup2

Hi to everyone else !!!:wave2: Aloha -- keahi:sunny:

Kara! 9 DAYS!!!:cheer2: Are you packed? You are NOT and idiot! Everyone has to ask someone at first!

And that is my DISboard lesson for today! :goodvibes

Keahi! Your trip sounds great to me! :thumbsup2 I want to start working on DH for the same one just the two of us next year! I think we are doing Puerto Vallarta for 7 days with our DS this time - looks relaxing!

Debbie, waiting for the doc report for DD!

Tessa, I'm following Keahi over to your Pre-trippie! :tiptoe:

Hi to the Pams and everyone else!

Thank you for the lesson, Tammie :teacher: - I'm sure I'll be using it soon! No, not packed yet. We're only going for 2 nights and only going to MK for P&PP, then maybe DTD for some shopping. Otherwise, we're relaxing at the resort and maybe hitting the pool for a couple of hours. I feel guilty though - we are usually such commandos, that if I'm not up at 6am and at a park (any park!) for rope drop, I'm going to feel like a loser! So I guess we'll check in around 6 on Friday, maybe take the boat to DTD for dinner, then on Saturday, pool, maybe even some mini golf or something, and then get to MK at 4:00. Then on Sunday we are going to the "dark side" - US. Never been so I'm sure it will be fun, too.

I'm still debating what to do about DD's Belle dress? To wear or not to wear at P&PP. Will it still be clean and fresh for princess lunch in May? Why did I even show it to her?????

Debbie, today is DD's dr's appt, right? Let us know - we all have our fingers crossed that she's on the highway to recovery!:thumbsup2

Keahi, I'm laughing that you even knew about the Kahuku! I really thought it was just some tourist trap - I didn't know it was a working sugar mill! Your trip sounds wonderful and I am definitely hoping for a quiet hurricane season. I think most of the "bad" ones (is there a "good" hurricane???) are in August and Sept so you should be fine anyway.

Tessa, Pam, Pam2, Jillian, and everyone else - Happy Hump Day!

Hi everyone! I have some catchin up to do since Saturday! I just wanted to hop on and say hi and make sure everyone is having a good week. I hope to get caught up at lunch today!

:grouphug:
Pam2

I'll hop on too! I also have to catch up. I did glance over the posts though and wanted to thank all of you for your concern for DD! The appointment is later today so again wish us luck. Also, I found out her teacher is out for the week with STREP!!! I might just keep her home the rest of the week. First off, what if STREP is going around her class and second after being home for almost 3 weeks I don't know if she would transition well with a sub.... What do you guys think? Also, I will run the whole scenario past the DOC.

Check out my weather! I am going to admit something to you guys…
I have never felt so CRAZY in my life. I am crabby, mean, impatient, frazzled, bummed, sad, frustrated…I mean my moods are swinging like an insane persons! I need to be done with winter and we need to GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE!!!!!!

Side notes….my best friend is in Hawaii right now on business(must be nice). I will have her wave to you Keahi!

Thanks for sticking around my FAVORITE thread everyone!!!!
