Good Almost Friday Morning!!!

We're leaving tomorrow afternoon to go back to SC for the weekend to see DH's parents but they've invited some of our friends over for dinner on Saturday night and I soooooo need to cut loose with my friends! Yesterday I was making some shirts for us for the Pirate/Princess Party and DD picked up one of the transfers to look at it, and then she set it down on the counter right where her bottle of water was - all wet!!! I absolutely freaked! Screaming like a banshee at my poor DD - I'm sure my blood pressure was off the charts. I have no idea why I lost it like that - I guess it was just a whole conglomeration of things. Yes, I work from home and it's great, but it's also a little claustrophobic - Debbie, I totally know where you're coming from, but at least I'm alone all day, no sick kids to add to the frustration. The only time I get out is Thursday nights when I go to Jenny Craig and then run errands ALONE. I'm just looking forward to summer when I can get out to the pool, and meet more people up there. Also, our subdivision has a ladies canasta night once a month but I haven't been to that yet. I told DH that in the spring I am going to get a nice hotel room on the beach and leave Saturday morning and come back on Sunday. Just me. Alone. With a couple of books and some sunscreen!

Debbie - like I said, I feel for you. It's bad enought being cooped up in the house, but to have sick kids on top of it - you must be going crazy! But you're right about Chicago - probably one of the few megalopolis towns that I'd consider - I lived in Lombard and Naperville for a year waaaay back when.

All you Sickies  - Relax and get better!

To everyone else, hang in there, it's almost Friday!!!

BTW, I apologize if I gave y'all the wrong idea, but I HATE to cook!!! All the organizational and planning stuff I love, but the daily domestic stuff - yuck! DH used to do all the cooking but since we have moved and I'm working from home, I feel like I NEED to help out. So today I'm "attempting" some sort of stew. But when I do cook, I live and breathe www.recipezaar.com. I love that website!

Debbie, hang in there I feel for you I really do - when our kids are ill it hurts! and then it hurts more when you think "oh for heavens sake get better and get back to school...":goodvibes

As for the cooking - yes Ratatouille really exists - it is a Mediterranean vegetable "stew" . Take aubergine (eggplant??) courgettes (zucchini?) peppers, onions, and garlic. Slice it all, fry it all in olive oil, then add chopped tomatoes and salt+ pepper, simmer for 40 min. You can eat it hot or cold. Yum!

sorry Pam2 - I still cannot help smiling at "hump day" - hubby would think his luck was in tonight if I called it that!! (if you know what I mean :rolleyes1) - thanks for making me smile anyhow...

Cheers,
Tessa

Tessa that sounds do yummy. I think I would love that over a little brown rice. What a healthy meal.

My Dinner last night was BBQ chicken and homemade Mac and Cheese.
Tonight will be Roast beef with roasted potatoes and asparagus. My Dh's favorite meal. That is my Valentines gift to him.

I am so very glad it is Thursday. I have a ton of errands to run today and my Badookie has a tummy bug.

Well I hope everyone has a great day. The sun is shining here Finally.

I think we are kindered spirits! I believe you do feel my pain! I am going to come visit you and we can go to that hotel together!:rotfl2:
I haven't left my kids overnight yet (mainly because the P's live downstairs) but I think about it MORE & MORE! My P's have a place in Naple's I would love to be at right now. The bad thing is for them to afford to keep it they have to rent it all winter:guilty: That means April too!:sad2:

Thanks!
I have wanted to try Ratatouille ever since I saw the movie. I cook here & there but I am never consistent and it's never anything very involved.

Very nice of you! BTW Is Baookie your LOs name or nickname. I think it's cute and wondered where it came from. Hope he feels better and it's nothing too bad.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you too! No plans here since I haven't even gotten out of the house. I guess I can make dinner. DH has been dieting. He has lost 19lbs! I am proud of him but admit that he usually just goes right back to his bad eating when he reaches his goal. Maybe not this time. I think he wants to lose at least 15 more so we will see.

That reminds me how is the smoke quiting going out ther for all who were working on this???

Thanks! I am definitely looking at the cooking threads. I need all of the new (easy) recipe ideas I can get.

I love the crock-pot stew package by McCormick. It is so very easy. I am lazy and buy the stew meat already cut up, baby carrots that are already peeled, and I leave the skin on my potatoes. I do cut up a couple of celery stalks for flavor and an onion. You just layer your veggies, and I put my meat on the top so the flavor drips down. EASY, and good cold weather food, if you like stew!

Just stopping by for a quick hello and to wish everyone a

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you are all staying warm, getting healthy, and hanging in there !!! Aloha -- keahi

Debbie- Badookie is his nickname Luca is his real name. My step father started call him that and it stuck.

Hi Keahi!

Jillian - How cute! His picture is cute, but it is so small! I like the name Luca. It's not so common. I miss my babies being little. I am going to enjoy having my neice to spoil!! It's almost like having a grandchild, I guess. There's such a big age difference betwen my kids and her.

The shooting at NIU is where I went to college!:guilty: People are pretty frightened right now.

Hi all!

Debbie - I was wondering about you and yours... so sad :sad2:

today I called one of my clients only to find out her DH had just died she was on her way to his funeral - only 30! Sleep Apnea during his Sunday nap with the kids. :sad1: I just got back in bed for the rest of the morning - I feel so bad for her. I'm so glad your DH is losing weight, Debbie. This guy was somewhat overweight - not real bad for his build - nice guy.

Tessa - thanks for the recipe! We make that here without the eggplant, just call it "zucchini with tomatoes and onions" :goodvibes We always have an abundance of zucchini here in the fall - just about the only thing that grows here besides potatoes.

Cute valentines, girls! Hope everyone had a nice Valentine's day! DS and DDIL went out for dinner - DH coached Basketball, I had two sick babies again. We need some sunshine! Anyway DH brought home Chinese food and we all watched Lost - not so romantic, but relaxing! :lovestruc

Good Night :grouphug:

Debbie - we just got it on our news again - what is with Chicago at the moment?? So glad you are ok.... the bright side of you being forced to stay indoors .... (there had to be one...:goodvibes)

Hope you all had a lovely Valentine's day - mine was just like any other day really - DH and romance do not really mix - I need to work on him some more....:confused3. Though I did get a "that was really nice" for doing fajitas - his favourite for tea - am still going on the home cooked theme - even made the salsa and guacamole.... cheated on the spices though and just used a "Mexican spice mix". We are really lucky though, we can eat together with the kids as he gets home about 5.15, so many friends have hubbies who work till past 8 and have to cook separately for the kids.

We have a weeks school holiday (our half-term ) starting end of today, so I get a week off and we get to stop the routine for a bit. I love snuggling up on the sofa in the morning in their PJs watching some trashy Disney film with something totally inappropriate like popcorn for breakfast....

Have a good weekend,
Tessa

LovinLife- I am so sorry to hear about your friend.

Debbie- I did see that terrible thing on the news I just sat and shook my head. I cannot believe what our world is turning into. I am just so sorry this has affected you.

Tessa- Popcorn for breakfast YUM-O and I never say YUM-O but it would be better if it wash Disney popcorn. The stuff is like crack:rotfl:

Well Valentine's day was just as boring here. My DH got written up at work for being sick on Wed. He had a terrible stomach bug. Boss didn't believe him then today he was sent home because he forgot his pager. :confused3 He will be leaving this job ASAP! His Manager is new and is on a rant. She use to be the low man on the totum poll.

We did nothing special Chinese food and Lost  Seems like a theme. We bought a new digital camera for Disney better than getting things you don't want it's a Kodak Easy share 12mp I have never had an easy share before.

Well I hope everyone is getting better and it's a better day today. :flower3:

Ah, only a couple more hours of work then off to SC! Not looking forward to the 5-6 hour drive with DD, DH, and 2 dogs (one is a 4 month lab/mix puppy!) but I'm sure it will be fine. In-laws are excited to meet the new member of our family.

I saw the news last night, too, and it just makes ya wonder, ya know? When did this all start? I never remember hearing about all this violence when I was younger! Is it getting worse or am I just paying more attention to the news now?

So sorry to hear about such a young man passing waaaaay too early! That is why I quite smoking - I had tried several times before but this time I just scared myself into it, I think. I have a beautiful daughter and don't want to take a chance on her growing up without me. She calls me her BFF and pinkie swears everything with me. We really are best friends and it scares the ever livin out of me to think of her not having me around. So I quit Jan 10th and have been smoke free since! The second week was the hardest, I snuck a couple from DH then, but ever since then I haven't even wanted one. And the worst part is how sensitive I am to the smell now!!! I can't even go out in the garage (where we used to smoke when it's cool out) because DH still smokes out there! And I make him shower before coming to bed now. I know he wants to quit, too, but he wants to make sure I'm over my moodiness so we don't kill each other!:rotfl:

Seriously, y'all need to check out www.recipezaar.com, they have great crock pot recipes, too. I love my crock pot! The site allows you to make a shopping list or change the serving size of the recipe. Really awesome. I made a homemade stew last night that was amazing! Didn't look that exciting, but it was cool and damp so it sounded good. DH just raved about it! Check it out http://www.recipezaar.com/36823. And the house smelled so yummy, too! And oh so easy!

Valentine's Day here was quite exiting - yeah, right! I had my Jenny Craig appt so DH and DD ate dinner then went shopping. I ran into them at Target, then we all came home, DD went to bed and DH and I also watched Lost. Love that show!

Well, gotta go get the house cleaned before we leave. Anyone else like that? I absolutely have to have all my sheets changed and the house has to be spotless before I go away - that way it is nice and clean when we get back.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Debbie - I instantly thought of you when I heard about NIU, but I didn't know it was YOUR school. I am so sorry. That is very upsetting, let alone having it be your alma mater. What is our world coming to?? It's really scary, and if you think about it too much, you can make yourself sick. There's not anything we can do about it. It's just awful.

Tammie - So sorry to hear about your friend's loss of her DH, and at such a young age. That is very sad.

Kara - Congrats on the no smoking! That is super!!! I know what you mean about leaving the house clean before a trip. I am usually sad to come home, and it doesn't help to come home to a mess! I need to check out your cooking site, and will. I need all of the new ideas I can get. I do not make many things completely from scratch. I love the recipes that contain cans and boxes of things, where nothing has to be cut up or pre-cooked. The easier the better for me. We don't want to eat dinner at 7 or later. My clan is starving when I walk in the door at 6:15. I have to act quickly!

Congrats to all of you who are dieting and kicking the smoking habit!! That is wonderful!

We tried to go to Olive Garden (Italian) for dinner last night, and got there about 5:30, and they were packed, people standing outside, so we ended up at Mimi's Cafe (they have everything!) instead. They were more crowded than usual, but no wait. After that, it was home and Lost for those who watch it, and very early bed for DD10 and I. This lingering cold has been whipping me. DH still has the crud, and DD14 is 100% better, she told me this AM.

Our weather is turning nasty this afternoon, but nothing like some of you have.

TGIF!! Have an awesome day, all!

:grouphug:
Pam2

Debbie - Thinking of you and hoping that DDs dr. appt. goes well and that she is on the road to recovery. I am also hoping that you all are keeping warm.

We have a weeks school holiday (our half-term ) starting end of today, so I get a week off and we get to stop the routine for a bit. I love snuggling up on the sofa in the morning in their PJs watching some trashy Disney film with something totally inappropriate like popcorn for breakfast....

Tessa - This sounds wonderful to me! Have fun on your break! I love being a homebody when we are able to!!

Kara - It's probably too late, but have fun and be careful on your trip!!

I have 2 vents today:

I had the morning from hell w/my kids. DD14 becomes a mouthy teenager once in awhile, and she was at her best this AM. DD10 cried this AM because I wouldn't write her a $30 check for the school's Jump Rope for Heart for the American Heart Association, but wrote a $20 one instead. I know that it is for a very good cause, but I get so tired of everyone asking for money! Between the two girls, they have so many fundraisers, for school, band, Girl Scouts…the list goes on. I hate to always ask friends and family to buy things or donate. Most of them have their own kids they are doing the same things for. I feel like we do our part, but I don't want to do more because I get frustrated that there are familes who don't do anything at all. I know that's the wrong attitude. I told DD10 she could put $10 of the money she got for Valentine's Day towards it to make it $30, and she didn't want to do that. Mom just has an endless supply of money! I also told her that she could do many chores this weekend to earn $10, but she didn't like that, either!:headache:

I am so tired of the amount of homework that DD10 has! She is currently working on a science fair project that is due at the end of Feburary, and she was assigned another science project that is due in two weeks. That is on top of the regular amount of homework that she usually has, and I think it is a lot!! I don’t remember bringing that much work home when I was in school! I know that my parents didn't help me with as much as we help her with! I try to get her to do it in her after school care, but she wants to play there, but does do her reading there, and we start the homework at about 6pm, finish it after dinner, and at least one night a week, work on it until she goes to bed.

I just had to share that! I feel much better now!:)

Hiya all,

Kara - those recipes sound really nice - will be trying some - and working out closest equivalent stuff - still, can call on my dis buddies for translations...
Well done on the not smoking!! - I gave up in 1998 - 10 years ago coming up in June... It was hard, but worth it! Even now sometimes I smell someone smoking "my" brand and have to just stop myself - I think I've gone past the sensitivity to other peoples smoke now.. only time I find myself tutting nowadays is if I see a mum smoking pushing a pram.... ex smokers really are the worst for being "judgemental"....

Pam2 - vent away, I am dreading the rise in homework -eldest is 7 and doing reading and spelling work every day as well as numeracy (2 sides of A4 paper) every week, then a project every month for "show and tell" . Next year she will have all the above plus literacy and science (thankfully the school tells us in advance of what they will be doing :
age 5 - 10 min reading /day
age 6 - 15 min reading /day + 20 min spelling /week
age 7 - 20min reading+ 5 min spelling/day + 20 min numeracy / week
age 8 - 20 min reading +5 min spelling/day + 20 min numeracy/20min science + 20min literacy+comprehension /week

The one that REALLY gets me is they set the numeracy on Monday for Friday - not allowing it to be done at the weekend!

Don't know for age 9/10/11 yet - they let us know a year before...
I also think it was mean of your DD to not want to put her money to go with yours, sometimes I do wonder how we will get them to understand the value of money....

Hi to everyone else too - have a great weekend....
Bye for now...
Tessa

Just a fly by to let you all know I'm still here...............

Crazy days....
We have a wedding tonight, DD still has pneumonia, still no school & classes, DH & DG still sick.....yada yada, poor me.....blah blah blah....
I will be back tomorrow!

Hope you guys are all on the mend!
