Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too........ Part 2

My mom is the same way. I love her to pieces but she is a stress ball. high BP and all. We started having mother daughter days twice a month. Nails, taking a walk, going to the cape for the day Maine etc... It gives her a chance to talk and get things out she cannot discuss everyday.
I know it doesn't seem like much but they took her off anxiety medicine after we started doing this (we also walk a few times a week). Any little bit helps just be there.

Debbie sorry to hear about your mom. Funny how a family pet can reach beyond just the immediate family. I know my mom gets that way sometimes, doesn't have Fibro but still gets herself all worked up and ends up taking muscle relaxers to calm down. Sounds worse than it is has muscle spasms and stress triggers them. Just remember we're here to listen.....

DD6 is climbing the walls today. Still has the cough so play dates are out. Thinking we will head down to the river and see how the ice is going out or check on the new 35W bridge. Gotta enjoy the weather while we have it, we too are expecting snow. :scared1:

Thanks girls!! I appreciate your thoughts and ideas!! It's funny we all take turns walking our high maintenance puppy so we never walk together! We do talk a lot though. I babble and probably do too much of the talking though!

]Just a little back-story….. I am not sure you know this but my Mom & I are super close, maybe too close for our own good. She is my best friend. We are a lot different and have a lot the same. We live together in an in-law house. We are in a remodeled apartment upstairs and they are downstairs. We all get along great but have different kinds of challenges those others who don't live with their parents as adult have. Just thought I would fill you in since you are new around here. It is a different dynamic but it is working for us so far!

Hey Erin & Tessa,
I just found Boden's. Got my son an adorable pirate bathing suit! This is from your neck of the woods right? Not sure if our sizes are the same though. I think one of you talked about this before but now I can't remember.

Here’s the deal with my Mom…she decided to go to the doctor due to some uncomfortable issues with some female problems, back problems, aches and pains, etc that have flaired up lately and the doctor is concerned that she is stressing herself out to the point of triggering the Fibromyalgia that she had back in the 80’s after my Grandma died. Also her blood pressure is too high now.
Wow…...I wonder whom I take after!
I am so worried about her! She takes such good care of herself but can’t get out of this latest funk, mostly brought on by the troubles with our dog (I know that might sound silly to some). I actually think she is even worse since the doctor because she is telling my Mom to change or she will get really sick.
There is nothing I can say…
We all know how it goes… telling some one to stop worrying or to stop getting so upset means nothing because if you could stop you would!!!!!!
I haven’t seen her yet today so I will keep you guys posted.

I hope all calms down with your mum and she starts to feel more herself soon .. is horrid when you feel so helpless too .. well my thoughts and prayers are with you

Question about Easter...... Is this holiday a big deal for everyone? We are all into the Easter Bunny in the morning and then we go by my Aunt's for a brunch. Do people kind of let this holiday fizzle out when their kids are grown (teenagers) or is it still a biggie for all Christians AND do nonChristians just do the Easter bunny part??? Just curious????

The rest of my family are non-Christian (i am a Christian) and yes the holiday is about the Easter Bunny and choco eggs .. until my DD comes along and tells them all the real reason for Easter hahahaha  yes she is very outspoken but in a good way

Tammie - I think the writer's strike is what has caused them to take this short break. The whole reasoning for "Lost" starting in Feb. and not at the start of the fall tv season was so it would broadcast just new episodes when it started, with no re-runs. That's what the plan was anyway!

Ok this may be an odd question but i'm not a huge Lost fan but i loove Heroes .. is the writer's strike gonna affect when we get new ones of that too??? :thumbsup2

Hope you're all good today i have been on the sofa for most of the day as still feeling  only leaving it to get DD from school .. more horrid weather coming my way too .. Arctic sleety rain apparently which just sounds great

So sorry you are under the weather Erin! I hate feeling sick...
Well I better go entertain the troops!! Back to the YMCA to swim again!

Yeh sizes are different from us to you .. i know ladies is more here as i love buying clothes in the U.S.A as am always smaller and that's gotta be a good thing :yay: and no matter how many times i buy kids clothes there i cannot figure it out i just end up trying it on my daughter

Debbie - So sorry for what your mom is going through. Of course, she's going to be stressed after hear from her doc. Did the dr. offer any suggestions to help her de-stress? I, too, wonder if an anti-anxiety med would help. Doesn't necessarily need to be a drug that needs to be taken every day - just when needed. I have to admit I started using one a couple of years ago when I was going through the divorce and then my daughter was in the hospital for a while. I wasn't stressed or depressed all the time, but certain situations would come up and I'd lose it! My therapist, at the time, prescribed Clonazapem. I'd take one so I wouldn't get so worked up over things. Now I take one before I fly or if my DD is having a bad day. I know plenty of moms at DD's special-needs school who are on something more long-term - their everyday lives are just too stressful and they need something to take the edge off. Just wondering if this is something your mom ever pursued - hope I haven't over-stepped the boundaries by asking.

You would think it SHOULD fizzle out when they get older! Just had this conversation with my DD12 last night - both girls don't believe in the Easter Bunny but they still want to decorate the eggs and put out the Easter basket. I mean, really?:confused3 I'm going along with it because part of me is not ready to accept this phase is over; but I seriously doubt we'll do it next year - it's costing me a small fortune to come up with candy and a little gift!

Ok this may be an odd question but i'm not a huge Lost fan but i loove Heroes .. is the writer's strike gonna affect when we get new ones of that too??? :thumbsup2

Ok, I'm really not a tv geek but I do know this answer. (I do subscribe to Entertainment Weekly mag.) Heroes will not be back until next fall. I don't watch the show, but from what I here, the producers felt there was not enough time in this season to wrap up the storylines. So they'll just pick up where they left off in the fall.

Ah ok .. thanks :thumbsup2 another 1 though if ya don't mind we've only had 1 series here is that all or is there already more?

I'm glad to hear that they will bring Heroes back in the fall. That was my assumption but with the strike all bets were off.

Debbie - That living arrangement has to be nice. My parents are 6 blocks away and DH are 12 blocks away. Girls really have gotten to know grandparents really well.

I've hit a wall. I have no motivation to do anything. I need a magic fairy to come make dinner tonight. DD6 is home until next Tuesday. I have used up my arsenal of at home ideas. She still has the cough so can't schedule play dates and being outside just make it worse. DD 16 mos is going nuts because big sis is there to control her every move. We tried a trip to the Mississippi river today. Went well. Ice is almost off all of it. The loved seeing the water go over St. Anthony falls. The 35W bridge is making lots of progress. Thinking we might hit the zoo tomorrow. I need to get moving Mass is at 7 pm. Ugh...... sorry about the vent.

I'm going stir crazy. Can't May be here now? I want to go to WDW Now!!!

What are the best times to eat? We will be on the deluxe dining plan. I want to be able to eat and get to the parks with plenty of time. There are certain rides we have to do at certain parks. My son gets up about 7:30am and goes to bed for the night around 9:30pm right now. He doesn't sleep through the night yet.

Leslie

Just wanted to stop by and say Hello to everyone. I've been thinking of you. Hope all is well with everyone nd their families. I just finished getting all the Easter Candy orders together (a big... Phew!) Now all I have to do is deliver them tomorrow. I can't believe vacations are around the corner, school will be out, etc. Of course, now I say that it will drag on forever. Pam

So was the Easter season a "hit" in the candy biz??? Good to hear from you!

Geez - where is everybody?:confused3

New tv arrived yesterday. Was told it would be delivered between 12-5; didn't get here until 6pm! Looks great though - now I just need to have DirecTV switch over to a high-def receiver. I still say the picture looks fine the way it is, but I know the high-def will be much better.

The way DH describes it: High def - beautiful. Without high def - like watching TV with a screen over it. It's amazing how you really notice the difference once you get used to high def. Enjoy!!!

The grass is always greener on the other side, right? Today cool and sunny:) but tomorrow MORE SNOW:scared1: ! Today IS the first day of spring. Doesn't mother nature know this:confused3

Also, Easter is just so weird early this year. I feel like I am forgetting something.....

Debbie - I saw you're supposed to get like another 4 inches of snow? I can't believe that winter is not ending!!! Are you getting any of that flooding or are you away from that?

Yes, Easter does seem really early this year. I can only speak for myself, but as a Christian, I think Easter is definitely THE most important holiday. But with regard to family gatherings, it's not as big as Christmas or Thanksgiving. We found that down south a lot of southern denominations don't believe in teaching kids about Santa and the Easter Bunny because they feel that it is sacreligious because it's taking the true meaning out of each holiday, but DH and I both grew up with it and so Ally believes in both (but for how much longer!), plus we make sure that we teach her the true meaning above all else.

As for your mom, I really hope she pulls out of her funk. I agree with Cammie though, hopefully if the doctor addressed your mom's stress, I would think she would also bring up different kinds of treatment, medication included.

And I totally understand the whole doggie thing! Right now mine are both okay, but last night the old one woke DH 8 times to go out with that tummy thing! Then she threw up in the bed! I slept through it all and only vaguely remember him waking me up to help him change the bed. How did I sleep through all that???? Apparently he got really mad at me after his last trip outside with the dog, because I had grabbed all the covers while he was gone. Oh, well, I reminded him of all those nights 7 years ago when I got up to feed DD. He didn't like being reminded! :rotfl2:

Also, I think it's great how close you and your mom are! I could never live that close to either of my parents, I think I'd end up in prison! What was it Cammie said once when I made a comment aobut vacationing with family? Something about chopping them up and freezing them? :lmao: Yeah, that's what I'd do! DH's parents used to live a few miles away from us, until that glorious day when the truck pulled out with all our stuff in it! Actually, it wasn't that bad, but they did take advantage of having DH so close, I think. They realize it now that we're gone. And I haven't lived near my folks for 14 years, but I see my mom 3-4 times a year. And that works out very well because she flies in alone and gets to spend a week with DD, without the other grandkids around. So it's special time for them. Plus, my mom is very artsy and flamboyant. She drives me nuts because we are so different. We've always been very different - I'm very much my father's daughter - and it made it quite difficult growing up, but I do totally respect her so much more now that I have my own famiy and we don't see each other as much. We've grown so much in our relationship.

This may be an odd question but i'm not a huge Lost fan but i loove Heroes .. is the writer's strike gonna affect when we get new ones of that too??? :thumbsup2

Hope you're all good today i have been on the sofa for most of the day as still feeling  only leaving it to get DD from school .. more horrid weather coming my way too .. Arctic sleety rain apparently which just sounds great

Erin - so sorry to hear you're still sick! Just get lots of rest! And I totally agree about Heroes! I can't believe we won't see it til next Fall!

I'm going stir crazy. Can't May be here now? I want to go to WDW Now!!!

Laura - First of all, the magic fairy's name is "Domino's." :rotfl2: He visits my house quite frequently!!

When is the 35W bridge expected to open? What are they doing with traffic now? That was so horrible when it happened - I was glued to the TV all night, I guess because I have so much family in the area. There were some heart wrenching stories that came out of that collapse.

My son gets up about 7:30am and goes to bed for the night around 9:30pm right now. He doesn't sleep through the night yet.

Leslie

Leslie - What meals are you referring to? I've never done TS for breakfast, so I can't help you then. But a lot of people make ADRs for the character meals for breakfast before the parks open, so you can get a jump on the day by already being in the park when it opens. As for other meals, just make sure you know which park you'll be in so you can plan your meals around that. But even if you do have to park hop, it's a piece of cake. In fact, we're doing 4 TS meals at Epcot in 6 days! I just think they have a great selection there. Keep us posted on your plans - we love to check them out!

My internet was down today so I feel so left out! But I did get my new hard drive for my work computer, but once I installed it, I couldn't figure out where to go next! In fact, I couldn't even get it hooked up to the internet! And then I have to set up email. What a pain!

Now I'm exhausted from doing nothing today! You'd think that I'd take advantage of this time and clean house or something, right? Wrong! Aside from a little straighteining, and a little laundry, I was a lazy bum today! But it felt kinda good!

Until tomorrow ladies! It's almost TGIF!!!!!

Yeh sizes are different from us to you .. i know ladies is more here as i love buying clothes in the U.S.A as am always smaller and that's gotta be a good thing :yay: and no matter how many times i buy kids clothes there i cannot figure it out i just end up trying it on my daughter

The good thing is that the boys suit was by age!

Thanks Cammie! You were not over stepping. I just don't think my Mom will do it due to she has a bad kidney and tries to avoid any drugs she can. We will see though. She might not have a choice! She will get some test results back soon.

Let me think about this. My brain is fried right now!

Which resort are you staying at? How old is your DS?

Last time I was there I was with DH on honeymoon and that was almost 10 yrs ago . We were at All-star sports and had CS for most of the days. We got to the parks just after opening. Crowds weren't too bad. We did TS for 2 breakfasts. Both we didn't have ressies for. We waited a long time. I believe it was the Tusker House and Crystal Palace.

This time I have made all of my morning TS before the parks open. We're morning people (at least DH and DD are). They have to have a full breakfast before starting the day. We are hitting Crystal Palace in MK, Askerhaus (sp?) in Epcot and Tusker House at AK.

One thing I have read over and over is to consider taking an afternoon break and going back to your room.

Let us know what your plans are and we can give you feedback :)

I keep hearing THIS December. Which to me is amazing but they fast tracked the design. Keeping my finger crossed that everything is done correctly. My college roommate lost her husband in the collapse. So it is something that we are watching very anxiously. I still hold my breath and have the windows cracked every time I go over the river. Crazy I know, but that's why I joined you guys the control freaks and worry worts was just too appealing. :rotfl:

We will be staying at AKL and Ryan will be 7 1/2 months old when we go.

Hi all!

We continued to get our boys Easter candy until they had kids! :goodvibes I was buying a specialty chocolate basket filled with lots of different kinds of candy eggs. Now I get goodies for the grandbabies! We are Christians, and we look forward to church on Easter - it is our main reason for being Christians! We used to get up early and find our basket and hunt for eggs before church. Always ate boiled eggs and toast for breakfast! :flower3:

Debbie, I'll call you tomorrow - sorry I havent sooner. I'm sorry about your mom. I was thinking the same as Cammie - maybe even temp. Also, maybe look into something herbal. :hippie: There is alot of good in holistic meds, I've learned - much safer. Does she have any hobbies?

Hi Pam! Nice to hear from you! Glad the candy orders went well!

Leslie! AKL is fantastic! You won't want to leave! :cloud9: Off times would be best for eating - maybe 4:30 or 5:00. You will definately need ADRs for your TS meals - it gets crazy hard to find a place to eat if you don't. We are thinking about TS for lunch and CS for dinner next time - we didn't like running our day around our ADRs.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! I put the "Hustlin' Owls" name in my announcement, cuz I knew it would make you :lmao: ! I laughed the first time I heard it too. They must have just settled on anything starting with O a long time ago! :rotfl2:

Hiya all - wow it got busy on here....

Debbie - sorry your mum is feeling like that - my mum gets low and anxious and anxious and low and........etc etc. every so often the doc puts her on some pills and cognitive therapy and she pulls out of it - s-l-o-w-l-y......
Boden is great - but EXPENSIVE for kids clothes - the sizes are different, and you also have to remember Boden is European, so kids are generally sized smaller than UK and US as well - unless you have a petite child (both short and slim for age) you need to go up a year or 2 on age. The quality is good though - it lets us Brits get a J/G ?ymboree type fix since they pulled out of the uk.

Erin - I don't know if you know this site, but take a look at thedibb.co.uk - he does a great map too... and on the site there is a copy of stuff like the pirates and princess party map etc ..

Anyhow - got to go buy chocolate - an event that no one should try to interrupt.!!

Tessa

Tessa

:rotfl2: Me too!

We are Christians, and we look forward to church on Easter - it is our main reason for being Christians!

Tammie - Well put!

My college roommate lost her husband in the collapse.

So sorry to hear that - I didn't want to ask if you knew anyone, cause, well, er, you know. Isn't that right down near the Hump Dome? (I'm using my Minnesota lingo - :rotfl: ). If so, I was just there with DD a couple of years ago.

Well, I have Dell on the phone right now and they're getting me all set up on my new hard drive. I'm so technically ignorant. I was able to physically put the new hard drive in, and then I was stuck. I just realized that I lost ALL my designs from the Creative DISigns thread that were personalized for me! Two of the designers are no longer designing and have removed all their designs from their photo bucket accounts. I know one will still do some designs but I hate to ask. I'm really bummed out about that!

AND, very good news, I logged into my work email this morning and see where the owner gave us all the day off today! I kinda wish he would have done it weeks ago so we could have taken a 3 day weekend and gone somewhere since DD is out of school, but actually this might be better. I'm going to go shopping for golf shoes - mine were somehow lost in the move! But I'm sure I'll find them right after I wear my new ones. Never fails! So then DH and I are gonna hit the links this afternoon (DD is at Kid's Club at our neighborhood clubhouse and they're going swimming today so of course she doesn't want to hang out with boring old mom! :rotfl: ).

How 'bout Lost last night? And now we have to wait a whole month for another new episode???? How many more new episodes will there be this year? Cammie? You are our resident (what did you call it?) TV geek :lmao: with the inside info....

Have a wonderful Friday!

Kara, glad you're getting your hard drive going. sorry you lost your DISigns! My DDIL and I were thinking of trying to make matching shirts for all us girls - do you just follow designs, or is there a link so you can make an iron on? Have a great day off with your DH!

Tammie - there are still several great designers on the thread. You just request a certain design after looking through them all - a lot of them post their photo bucket accounts so you can look through them all. Then buy the transfer paper, print, and iron on the shirts! It's that easy. But my MIL decided to iron one of theirs and ruined it! And it's a really cute one with the stick figure family and I don't have it saved anymore!

I know that rumblytumbly does great work (Pat and Amy are no longer designing, but it appears that their threads are still there), as does Michelle. donatalie is not taking anymore requests (she had over 100 after only about a week of posting her first designs. They are amazing!), but she mostly just does invitations anyway. Hmmm, there's a really cute one that's titled "newbie wants to play" (I think) with really cute little figures that she personalizes. Just scroll through there and you'll find lots.

Have fun golf shoe shopping. I'll be thinking of you strolling around that hot and sticky golf course while I am shoveling white, wet, heavy snow. Oh well the YMCA pool is always nice. We can pretend we're someplace warm. :)
