Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too (Part 2)

Renee - first of all, calm down and stop thinking the worst! I'm sure they're just playing it safe and want to rule things out so they can proceed. But at least this way you will know what's up, so it can be treated properly. You've been in too much misery!

Hiya all,

Kara, glad it wasn't too big a storm for your first one.....

Look away now if you are squeamish....
Renee - I get sinus trouble too - only thing that works for me is the disgusting one... this one is from a naturopath .... "Aladdin's Lamp" like a jug with a long spout...... lean with your head tilted sideways and slightly forward over a bucket, inhale that salty water through the top nostril and let it flow out the bottom one - turns my guts over just to think of it, but it works.... my head/face has to hurt really bad for me to pluck up the courage to go for it, but then it feels great.... so I tell myself off for not doing it sooner!:confused3

OK squeamish bit over.

Update on my sister - she has now fallen out with mum as well as left her hubby.... I don't know how to deal with her - she told some lies about her hubby to mum, mum repeated them to him when he went there looking for his wife - he hit the roof, called her and got her to tell the truth, so now my sis won't speak to my mum because "she" made it all worse!! WTH!!!! Mum took her in, helped her find a place with the kids, filled her store cupboards (from her meagre pension money!!) , and she slaps her in the face like that.... sis may be family, but sometimes grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... it is sooooooooooooo frustrating.

Tessa

Thinking of you, Renee! Please don't think the worst. It's pure torture (and much easier said than done!). Keep us posted. (no pun intended!)

Just finished cleaning up from breakfast, and Darrin is emptying the dishwasher! I am on the computer, and he is emptying the dishwasher. AND I FEEL GUILTY! WTH? What's up w/that? :confused3 It's usually the other way around! He's just giddy about his fantasy football weekend. Can't say I blame him. No spouse and no kids for the weekend. :cloud9: I'll have mine in Sept 09! Wait! That's a year away! Uggh!:headache: I may go on the women's retreat w/the church in January. Not sure yet...

Have a great day, all!:)

Hi Tessa! I do that, too! We call it a netti pot! It was on Oprah! Darrin laughed, because that was when I HAD to get one. JK. I've only had to do it a time or two, and have conned the girls into doing it at least once, and it is so helpful when you have a cold and cannot breathe! It is so relieving!

Sorry to hear about your sis. She is troubled if she was desparate and felt she had to lie. Poor thing. It's hard to try to stay out of the middle when something like that is going on w/your family. All families have drama like that. Hang in there. I just hope the kids are OK. That's who I worry about most in those situations.

OK - I REALLY have to shut this thing OFF, and go get ready for the day. It's 10am! I am still in my PJs. I'd be a mess if I didn't work...but it's fun just lazing around!

No matching shirts for Jeff and I - but definitely when Ally and I go! She thinks it's cool to dress alike, Jeff not so much... :rolleyes1

You should make some really cute ones!:rotfl2: I don't think that Darrin would go for that, either.:confused3

Pam - I hope all goes well today with the girls. And I do think that Tay will grow apart from the twins, what with them being at separate schools. The twins will probably be too "cool" to hang with an elementary school, which sounds like it could be a good thing. I know how you feel - Ally has a friend like that and I was so glad that they didn't end up in the same class this year.

Jeff just called from work and said he's the only one there and he's getting out. He said it's really bad up there and feels like what a TS should be! :scared1:

Thanks. Taylor is such a follower, that it scares me. She is the one we will have to worry about in HS.

I hope that Jeff gets home quickly and safe. Thinking of you guys today....

Tessa - so sorry to hear that about your sis - it puts you in such an awkward position, I'm sure. Just remember that the difference between friends and families, is that most of the time family will forgive you for speaking your mind, whether it's what they want to hear or not. I've had some pretty good discussions with my sis and she always came back around. It's tough being the "perfect" one in the family! :rotfl2:

BTW, Tessa, what are kippers? I'm reading the Harry Potter books and he seems to eat kippers a lot for breakfast? :confused3

Hiya all,

Kara, glad it wasn't too big a storm for your first one.....

Look away now if you are squeamish....

Update on my sister -

Tessa
Tessa - I have one and have been using it for a while. It works miracles! You are right, at first it seems so strange, but if you do it right, it is not that big of a deal. The only problem is that my cavity has so much issues that no matter how you mix the solution (regular or weak) it burns. :sad2:

I hope things work out for your family. That is so tough. :sad1:

You should make some really cute ones!:rotfl2: I don't think that Darrin would go for that, either.:confused3

:
There is no way Carlos would ever wear a matching shirt - seriously no way. Even the same color - he calls it being "Twinkies". :rotfl2: He is so not down with being Twinkies. :rotfl2:

Well, still no word from the dr. which makes me feel some better :thumbsup2 Plus I have my overnight at the suite with my best friend tomorrow (read as the first time in almost 2 years that I have got to sleep until I WANT to wake up :cloud9: which I'm sure will not be past 7 am, but still... :cloud9: ) and then soon we will be watching ocean waves crash :cloud9: :cloud9:

Which reminds me, I've got to get some things together today.

And, uh hum, on Official CFWW business, I just turned down a 5 night scrapbooking trip with my best friend in SEPT 09. SO... THIS TRIP BETTER HAPPEN OR I WON'T BE A HAPPY CAMPER. :snooty:

AHOLA Ladies! I'm back from IL and I'm so happy to be home. Business trips aren't as exciting as they sound! The girls are getting ready to go over my mil's camper for the weekend so I'm hoping to get some sewing done while they are gone.

Here's my list- DD9 - Unicorn shirt, pink shorts to match, yellow and brown shorts, start working on the Narissa costume. For me - blue A-line skirt. Well maybe I'll get one or two things done.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

OK, it's getting nasty now - lots of tornado warnings are popping up, and the winds are getting stronger. Figures. I just put everything back in my laundry room. Ally has about 15 stuffed animals and dolls that she just gathered up and threw in the laundry room in case we need to go in there! :rotfl2: So needless to say, I'm logging off for awhile!

Pam good luck with the ice cream. I will make one recommendation though, as you decrease the amount of fat that is in the ice cream the more icey it becomes. Also that means it will melt really fast.

here are my 2 stand by recipes. We love them. It take a bit for it to sit over night and not just drink the stuff but it is sooooo worth it.

This is the deadly one

3 cups half-and-half
1 cup heavy cream
8 large egg yolks
9 ounces vanilla sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Place the half-and-half and the heavy cream into a medium saucepan, over medium heat. Bring the mixture just to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and remove from the heat.

In a medium mixing bowl whisk the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the sugar and whisk to combine. Temper the cream mixture into the eggs and sugar by gradually adding small amounts, until about a third of the cream mixture has been added. Pour in the remainder and return the entire mixture to the saucepan and place over low heat. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon and reaches 170 to 175 degrees F. Pour the mixture into a container and allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Stir in the vanilla extract. Place the mixture into the refrigerator and once it is cool enough not to form condensation on the lid, cover and store for 4 to 8 hours or until the temperature reaches 40 degrees F or below.

Not So Deadly
2 cups half-and-half
1 cup whipping cream
1 cup minus 2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons peach preserves (not jelly)
1 vanilla bean, split and scraped

Combine all ingredients (including the bean and its pulp) in a large saucepan and place over medium heat. Attach a frying or candy thermometer to inside of pan. (see note below) Stirring occasionally, bring the mixture to 170 degrees F. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Remove the hull of the vanilla bean, pour mixture into lidded container and refrigerate mixture overnight to mellow flavors and texture.

Freeze mixture in ice cream freezer according to unit's instructions. The mixture will not freeze hard in the machine. Once the volume has increased by 1/2 to 3/4 times, and reached a soft serve consistency, spoon the mixture back into a lidded container and harden in the freezer at least 1 hour before serving.

Okay these are really Alton Brown's but I love them soooo much

As of 3 CST, still have heard nothing from the dr - which I'm taking to be a good thing. I hate that I've wasted a day waiting around. I really needed to go to Target - but the cell doesn't work in that store.

HOWEVER, I'm now wondering if she just got me mixed up with another patient. Anyway, I'm kinda good spirts that I'm not a big fat CT rush today! :goodvibes

Still haven't put anything together for tomorrow night. I better do that soon!

Hi Best Buddies - I'm baaaaaaack!

Missed you all! I'll go back and try to read what I've been missing this past week. Hope all is well with everyone!

Kara - Glad to see you're online and haven't floated away!

Hi All! I'll be back to read - rant coming:

I saw Cammie posted, reminded me of BWV - Oops - I am at the 7 month mark today - was supposed to call and have our ressies changed from SSR to BWV - only 2 1/2 after they closed now! DOH! I hope I can still get it tomorrow.

Going to a class reunion tonight - don't want to go, and yet I do! :confused3 Okay, I'll try to catch up before I have to go start using my wrinkle pen! :rotfl:

Anyone know of a good website with ARK plans? We've gotten 4" of rain today, 7 1/2" since this started, and we're still supposed to get another 2+" tonight and 1-2" tomorrow!

I'm going stir crazy!!!!!:scared: LET ME OUT OF THIS HOUSE!!!!

There are little ponds on either side of our house that are getting ready to overflow - I think they're drainage ditches really, just there until they build houses, but they are NOT draining!!!! They've probably risen about 3-4 feet today!

Kara! :scared1: You need a boat! Please don't float away. I am praying that everything will be okay.

Welcome back Cammie! We missed you! Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Welcome back Tina - have fun sewing!

Tessa - I used a dropper with warm salt water last year - really helped!

Renee - I'm sorry it is such a struggle. Some people who have trouble with scents find it's because they are perfumes with artificial scents. Most of ours are natural from the plant oils - exception the FYI and the Holiday. And them some people can't stand any scents at all - and there is at least a light herbal scent to everything.

Pam - have fun with the ice cream - thanks for the reminder - I wanted to make ice cream with Myles this Summer and totally forgot. I'll have to drag the machine out tomorrow and get the stuff.

Laura, thanks for the recipes. I'll go wash my mouth out now. :rotfl2:

Okay, gotta go get ready for my class reunion - have a good night everyone!

Yike take care kara.

Hi Cammie!

Glad to hear the ENT didn't call today Renee.

I'm home alone this weekend. Yipee!!! Tim is at the lake with the girls and his parents. Did I mention he has a disc issue in his back now? his leg is numb and he can't pick up katherine or do anything else. Laying in bed is about all he wants/can do. He hurt it on the 4th of July and just told me last week. He's been masking it since then. I am at my wits end with him. This is the 3rd back issue in 10 yrs. I told him I am going to trade him in. Last time was when beth was born. I need to get myself right or I will loose it. This was one of the major issues when we went to therapy last time. It is taking so much to not lash out at him because he can't help around the house. I am going to let them be at the lake with his parents so I will have me time. Okay rant over. I'll be here a bit this weekend

Sorry to hear about your DHs back, Laura. I hope he heals fast this time. It's hard to do everything, and hard to be the nurse. I know, I've been there, too. We are headed that way - Jim is having surgery on his knee on Oct 7. Torn meniscus. He kept running on it for 3 weeks, even though the pain was waking him up at night. Now the doc said no running until after rehab.

Hi everyone. I actually enjoyed my class reunion, and wish we were going to the Luau tomorrow. Jim was bored, but he's not a "mixer."

Hope everything is good, Kara.

Have a happy Saturday!

Hiya all,

Kara - kippers are a peculiarly Scottish/ Scandinavian breakfast "treat" they are smoked herrings - an oily, smoky fish you eat warm with buttered toast. An acquired taste as you can imagine....

Tessa

Kara - Thinking of you!! Please check in.

There is no way Carlos would ever wear a matching shirt - seriously no way. Even the same color - he calls it being "Twinkies". :rotfl2: He is so not down with being Twinkies. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Will he wear pink? I think it's so masculine when men are men enough to wear pink. Goofy, I know. Darrin is in touch w/his feminine side.:lmao: I do hope that you get some sinus relief. That has got to be AWFUL. Have fun at your overnight! Did you have your stamp party yet?

And, uh hum, on Official CFWW business, I just turned down a 5 night scrapbooking trip with my best friend in SEPT 09. SO... THIS TRIP BETTER HAPPEN OR I WON'T BE A HAPPY CAMPER. :snooty:

I am in. :yay: It is on my calendar. In fact, I mentioned something to DH the other day, and he was 1/2 listening, and he said, "your trip w/your Dis buddies is off?". I said, "NO!". He said, "Good!". My hubby and kids know and accept the fact that I will be going, but I haven't said anything to other family or friends about it. They will think I am nuts/coo-coo, but I don't care! My MIL is going to FLIP! She had a fit several years back when I took advantage of a free overnight in a hotel BY MYSELF, and left her son alone w/the two kids. I had a spa appt. w/that package too! Totally by myself. She is a wonderful woman, but she did let me know that it wasn't a cool thing to do in her eyes. Old fashioned....It's OK for her son to go away on camping/fishing/fantasty football weekends w/buddies and me to stay home w/the kids tho...:confused3 She didn't like it the couple of times I went away for a weekend w/my sister. I haven't done that w/girlfriends, but I don't even tell her about girls nights out w/them. I just don't think that she would like it. When the kids were little, Darrin would always call his mom when he was left home alone w/the kids. It was a running joke between us. The first thing I would ask him when I walked in the door was, "Did you call your mom?". I knew that he did, and I was right! What's up w/that? Now that they are older, he doesn't.

The girls are getting ready to go over my mil's camper for the weekend so I'm hoping to get some sewing done while they are gone.

Welcome back, Tina! Happy sewing! Post pics of your finished products, please!

Laura - Thanks for the ice cream recipies! I saved them, and will have to try them! Ours turned out great, but I did skimp and use 1/2 and 1/2 and 2% milk on the vanilla. I just couldn't bring myself to go all the way. We also made a type of frozen pudding w/2% milk for the chocolate. The next time, I will for sure make the really good stuff! We enjoyed it tho! I don't know if there are many hubbies out there that help around the house as much as we would like - hurt or not.:sad2: We have that arguement/discussion all of the time. Some things just don't get done...

Cammie - Welcome back!! We missed ya! I can't wait to hear about your trip. There was mention of sharks in the news, and someone mentioned it here. Did you hear/see any commotion about that?

Tammie - How was the reunion? How fun! I missed both my 10 and 20 year. I am very regretful. We went to both of Darrin's. We had conflicts on mine, can't remember, but I wish that we would have gone. Was everything OK w/your reservation? I hope so.

Tessa - I would try kippers - if they don't have a head! We eat the smoked salmon for breakfast/brunch, why not that?

The girls and I had fun yesterday - after breakfast and we sent the twins home, we went to the outdoor shopping mall and truly window shopped because - I forgot my wallet! I had been doing something at the desk before we left, and left it there. Did I subconciously do that? I don't know. Maybe! I was done BTS shopping. Taylor just couldn't understand why she couldn't get anything. The girls did have some of their own money, and each bought a necklace. I had enough cash for lunch, so we got cheese fries at Snuffers. OMG - they were artery cloggers, and I could feel it from the first bite! Mostly cheese, bacon, chives, ranch, jalepenos, and some fries. We went to the library after that, then went to see House Bunny. It was cute and funny. I snuck in a workout while the girls chilled at home for an hour. I needed to w/all of the crap I ate yesterday. We went to CiCi's pizza buffet for dinner (a place that Darrin does NOT like to go), came home and made our ice cream, built our bed on the living room floor and watched Nim's Island. I fell asleep. I feel bad, but if I am not moving, I tend to to do that. It was after 10pm tho.

The girls are still sleeping. Megan has band practice this AM, and I may need to help stock the concession stand for the football games. I am waiting to hear. She has a band party at the local swimming pool/water park tonight. I need to do some picking up and laundry around the house. Taylor and I will probably go eat at Souper Salads tonight - somwhere that Megan does not like to eat.

Our cool weather is over. It was scorching hot yesterday. My car temp thingy said 106F. Where are you fall??? Like we even have fall weather here! :lmao: , but any relief would be welcome!
Have a great day, all!!:grouphug:
