Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too (Part 2)

Good Morning Tessa! Congratulations to your smart little girls! Or, let me say, "Well done!" Do you have something like Libby Lu or BBB there? We have some stores like that. Maybe even a Claire's Boutique - lots of cheap earrings and hair accessories, etc. that girls like. Maybe they could have a little shopping trip for "girl stuff" for a certain amount!

Wow - you're up late Tammie...... working??

That's a good idea, might try and build a few little things together for their treat, spread it over the holiday period to keep reinforcing the message - a girly shopping trip would fit nicely!! Maybe do a paint a pot thing too, go to see WALL-E at the movies that type of thing.... mmmmm... lots of thinking to do.

For now I have to go feed them breakfast....

Tessa

Tessa - Congrats on the girls' grades. You must be so proud! (I think they should be rewarded with a trip to WDW!);) But seriously, I usually reward Lauren w/ some of the things Tammie mentioned - cute jewelry, a manicure, or a game cartridge for her DS. I just like to get her something that she would normally buy for herself.

Jillian - So relieved to hear your cousin is doing better; hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here on in. Sorry to hear about all your troubles this week though - when it rains, it pours doesn't it?

Laura - I missed your post from the other night: the whole "weeding/wedding" mistake. Don't worry - if I'm EVER planning another wedding, you guys will be one of the first to know! So, as of today, I'm still searching for my prince charming!

Ok, so we have quite a few control freaks missing in action these days: Debbie, Erin, Pam, Pam2, Keahi - where have you all gone?

The girls are with their dad this weekend. I'm trying to muster up the energy to head over to the gym - I haven't been since before Disney! I just can't get over there during the weeks during summer vacation; now I'm just out of the groove!

I also have to start planning Amanda's birthday party for next weekend. I'm going to have 10 family members staying with me; plus I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to also invite friends. If I do, that would bring the party total up to @20. I just don't know if I want to take on the chore of shopping/cooking/entertaining for that many people. I feel guilty because it is for Amanda, but now that I'm single I always feel like I run around like a chicken w/out a head when I have big parties. My family does help but you know how it is - as the host, you have a hand in everything. I need to look at my recipe books and start putting together a menu. Let the stress begin!

Hiya all,
managed to get on line for 20 min...... loving all the beds.... we had one with the ball shapes on the end last time - I ended up with big round bruises on my upper arms from bumping into them too often!! So we bought a storage bed with just a metal bedhead - I can wear short sleeves again ....bliss..

Well, we had report cards from school - so I have to brag - I have 2 clever little girls!! "Never gives less than 100% effort" "A pleasure to teach" etc etc etc... top marks all round for BOTH of them :cloud9:- now we have to think of a big "treat" for them to try and encourage more of the same next year.... any ideas?? School's out from next Thursday..... can't wait to get out of the routine....

Tessa

Woo Hoo for the girls a shopping trip would be a great treat.

Cammie- 10 seems like the perfect number not too many to make you crazy.

:- now we have to think of a big "treat" for them to try and encourage more of the same next year.... any ideas??
Tessa, I LOVED Tammies ideas - but what about since it is school related, what about doing something like that now and then allowing them to buy an unusual thing for school. I don't know what that might be - forgive me - my kids are still too small. But I would think of maybe a extra pricy bag (maybe personalized)/trapper keeper :lmao: :rotfl2: /locker gear, or something of the kind where they will SEE it each day of the school year and be reminded of why they got it? What good girls you have! CONGRATS!

I also have to start planning Amanda's birthday party for next weekend. I'm !
Okay Cammie - have to chime in here since we did this this year - DISASTER! He was okay with it while it was going on, but he gets progressively more sad each time he goes to one of his friend's parties. I will tell you it was easier on me - absolutely, since the "core" for the family allowed me to be more relaxed and do less, but I have to say based on his level of disappointment, I won't do it next year. I will just suck it up and do what he wants and if it is a party with his friends, well, that is what we will have. Why not ask Amanda what she wants. I realize she is older and she may not be that into a big party with those catty little girls anyway, but that might be important to her. I just say ask her - see what she wants - and do that. I hate to add more stress on you, but after all - it is just one weekend of 52. Ya know? I thought my idea was brilliant until the back end. It is now July and he still asks each time we attend a friends party when wil he get to have one "someday" :headache:

Okay - so I'm looking at the Boardwalk area to get more info. Forgive me for not posting this over on the "resort" area, but I know I will get honest answers I can trust from you guys... and I don't know those other people. :rotfl:

Should I look at the Boardwalk Inn, Kara mentioned Beach Club, or what? Based on the photos of the rooms, I think I would like the Beach Club first, then the Boardwalk, so... are they all right together. The descriptions say they almost across from each other. I"m so confused.

I've found some maps, but they are so distorted, I can't make heads of tails, and I'm looking at a panoramic photo and I sware it looks like I'm seeing the GF on one side of the lake...

Hey Renee - I think you might have misunderstood my post. My family will be coming up regardless; they're all in NJ and want to see Amanda for her birthday. As for inviting friends, I was really referring to family friends that we hang out with. The sad reality of having a child w/special needs like Amanda is that she doesn't really have a circle of friends. She has classmates; but since she goes to a private school, students are from all around the state. Her classmates don't live locally. Some of the friends we socialize with do have children that go to the same school as Amanda - and we are great friends with them. I consider those children to be her friends - but that's two kids.

But, with family here, Amanda will have four cousins visiting that are a very lively bunch and sweet to her. As for asking her what she would want, she's really unable to communicate answers to questions like that. What I do know is that she likes a party atmosphere and I know she's happy to see family around. I think if I invite family friends, it just might get too hectic. I want to be able to enjoy the day myself too.

Well, there's the lake in the middle; on one side is the BW area w/ the BWInn and the BWVillas(DVC). Across the lake is the Yacht & Beach Club - which is a hotel; but they also have the BCV - which is the DVC. Off behind the Y&BC is the Dolphin and the Swan hotels.

The Y&BC has Stormalong Bay - that's the pool they share which is really like a little waterpark. It's fun, but sprawling; not sure, having little ones, if you'll enjoy it that much because it's really spread out. They do have other smaller, quiet pools though - so you can choose what would work best. The BW has one main pool w/the clown slide; the Inn side has it's own quiet pool; as does the villa side.

If you want to stay in a DVC, you should look into renting pts. from a member. On the DVC board, there is a forum for people looking to rent pts. I've never done it but you can check it out. Just have to be careful if you choose to rent - only rent from someone who appears to be a Dis veteran. But we can discuss that more if you get serious about it! Good luck!

Hi Girls………….
I’m back! I haven’t had a chance to read or catch up yet so I hope everyone is doing good and having fun! I really miss talking to you guys!! VERY tempted to start calling you guys from my cell when I am up north!

We went from being in Wisconsin for a few days, to a Cubs game where they gave away Cubs American Girl Doll outfits to the first 5000 girls, to the water park all day yesterday. I am so pooped at night!!!!! I wish so badly that I could still have some energy left in the evening! I have zero! Then I go to go to bed and I can't fall asleep!

My DH is off of work (not by choice), which is freaking me out since I told you guys I am worried about money. He is never off and now he was off Thursday, Friday and he will be off again on Monday:scared1: ! Then when he is off we do fun family things together which end up costing money. YKWIM? I am a little stressed for now.

Being in Wisconsin made me feel like a bad Mom again:guilty: . When I am cooped up with my Mom with no escape it seems my kids are at their worst. They do so well when they are being entertained or we are down by the water or we are running around but if we are just sitting around the house they are awful. Should I be entertaining them every minute of their lives? I don’t get it? Do you guys do things with your kids (one on one) the whole time they are awake? What do your kids do in the evening? The other big thing that I have to change is the fact that my kids have no fear of any punishment I dish out. My son got out of his car seat over and over again driving to and from Wisconsin:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: ! I had to pull over numerous times and he laughed right in my face no matter how upset I was. I was out of my mind:headache: ! With Elizabeth it’s her mouth. She just doesn’t know when to keep it shut. If she would learn to just think some of this stuff in her head and not say it out loud she would be so… much better off. After we came home things were better because we went to the ball game and the water park….. with both my kids the main time they are getting in trouble is the “down time”.

Sorry to come back and just vent but it has been building up over the past week. I would love to have a computer in Wisconsin since we just veg at night.
I have decided that you know how you talk to yourself in your head?? Now instead of talking to myself in my head I talk to you guys in my head!!!!!

It probably sounds like I’m not having much fun either and I am! We are having great fun. I LOVE summer! It’s just the behavior issues. I feel like as a Mom (the main care giver)and teacher (before I had my own kids) my kids should be so well behaved and it just isn’t happening.

I will have pix of our summer fun coming soon! I hope everyone had a great 4th and you all are having great weather. I will definitely start to catch up soon.

Love you guys!

Cammie - you should have said... hey dumba$$, it is AMANDA's birthday. Sorry, I just remembered the photos and dancing Mickey, so in my head she was done and this was Lauren.... DUH! :lmao: I'm not fully awake yet and the BW stuff has me all confused. SORRY! I guess I'm still wrapping my head around the idea of ONE birthday party a year (had two in my life... one with family at 1 and one at McDonalds at 6) much less an amazing mom who gives you TWO! :)

In that case, yeah, I'd just keep it simple so you don't run yourself ragged and Amanda isn't overwhelmed by too many people. 10 should be more than pleanty and I don't know about you, but my parents act very differently with my children when it is a family party (lots of intereacting) vs. a friends/family party (not so much interaction at all)

Well, there's the lake in the middle; on one side is the BW area w/ the BWInn and the BWVillas(DVC).
So Nicolas is a light sleeper. Is their tons on noise here that you can hear from the BW? I was thinking that the cheaper rooms might be the quietest option :confused3 Their decor just doesn't do much for me.
Across the lake is the Yacht & Beach Club - which is a hotel; but they also have the BCV - which is the DVC. Off behind the Y&BC is the Dolphin and the Swan hotels.Okay so I really like the Beach CLub, but I think Nicolas woudl really like a slide (so that limits us to the BW - right?) Now, are these further away from EPCOT entrance or closer?

The Y&BC has Stormalong Bay - that's the pool they share which is really like a little waterpark. It's fun, but sprawling; not sure, having little ones, if you'll enjoy it that much because it's really spread out. I was actually about to ask if anyone does time shares at the VC properties and if their was a place to call. I don't know about renting directly from a person. Kinda makes me VERY nervous - KWIM? BUT if there is an organized rental place... that might be a thought.

Then again, for all the Money Kara helped me find, in two years I could probably pay for both of us to have a DVC membership. :rotfl2: Isn't that crazy. AND KARA, I said I COULD not that I WOULD. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Okay, so I start talking seriously about the BW area and do you notice who just so happens to show up? :confused3

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's EXACTLY one of the things I stress about! No interaction and then you feel the party is a bomb! At least with just family, I know we'll all either talk, yell, or mock to each other!

WELCOME BACK DEBBIE!!!!

Glad to hear you had a "reasonably" good time!

Renee - There is a slide at Stormalong Bay; it's made to look like a old boat. But what's weird about it is you have to walk OUT of the pool area, across the walkway, to get to the stairs for the slide. There's no way you could stay in the water and let Nicholas go up by himself. At the BW slide, you could - it's all right there. Don't know if I'm painting a good picture of it for you.

As for the noise at the BW, I've only stayed in a BW view room once, and yes, I found it noisy on some nights - usually when the bar on the BW closed. Granted, I'm a very light sleeper and the girls did not wake up. But, as you can imagine, the BW view rooms are very hard to get and also very expensive so I say just avoid them. I've always found the rest of the resort to be quiet; never have stayed on the Inn side though.

First, WELCOME BACK DEBBIE! We missed you!!!:welcome: party:

Should I be entertaining them every minute of their lives? I don’t get it? Do you guys do things with your kids (one on one) the whole time they are awake? What do your kids do in the evening?
Evenings are the worst around here. Generally, the kids watch sprout and play with themselves as I clean the kitchen (we have an open floor plan) and then we start baths/bedtime routines, so no, no 1 on 1 time except for bedtime. I'm actually about to stagger them so they do get 1 on 1 at bedtime for a story/cuddling. Nicolas gets 1 on 1 while Mia naps, and Mia does when my mom keeps Nicolas - she will not keep her since two is too much trouble. Funny - I do it daily, but whatever. She never keeps her by herself either. Don't beat yourself up, I think that is a challenge we all face. It is part of being a mom who loves your kids to worry about such things.
The other big thing that I have to change is the fact that my kids have no fear of any punishment I dish out. Same thing. I get laughed at too, but you know, it isn't easy and for the very dangerous things, I react differently from the general no-nos because I don't get laughed at for that. So, I'm thinking I'm not coming across as serious enough for those other things. I have learned what works for my kids too. Nicolas - just knowing you are mad will send him to tears. For Mia - well, that is still a work in progress since she is fazed by nothing...
I had to pull over numerous times and he laughed right in my face no matter how upset I was.
With Elizabeth it’s her mouth. She just doesn’t know when to keep it shut. Isn't that just the age? My friend is going through that with her son who is the same age as your DD. Now instead of talking to myself in my head I talk to you guys in my head
I was just telling Cammie I was doing this with her the other night... complete with Smileys. Sign to step away from the DIS. :lmao:

To be honest, the rooms at the BW remind me of my moms decor in the 90s - I just feel like i'm in her house - not quite the mood I want for my vacay. Seriously, I liked the decor at ASmo better! You know, I wonder why they don't build a Mickey or something themed deluxe. You would think they would ...

Yeah, the "Mickey-ness" is a little more subtle in the deluxe; but it's still there! Could be a game for Nicholas and Mia - find the hidden Mickeys!

Okay so one more. Do you have to go by boat back and forth from the YC/BC to the BW? It looks like a bit of a ways.

And I may have missed it but which area is closer to EPCOT - or does it really not matter? It looks like from what I'm reading that the BW is closer, and the YC/BC adds about 5 mintues?

Listen, I think you hit the nail on the head that my strategy should be to make CARLOS happy so we can go back! So it has to be planned around him. I can do Char breakfasts for the kids, but the resort needs to be for the man of the house.
