Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too (Part 2)

Laura - Hope Beth is feeling better! Take comfort in the fact that the fever has come down with medicine once already. It's usually more concerning when Tylenol or Motrin doesn't help it budge. Good luck!

Kara - Step away from the dish soap!

Debbie - Where are you? Thought you'd be back by now!

Can you believe that he got mad at ME for complaining about the mess he left last night??? So I went out to the garage and started cleaning up out there. All the fireworks garbage was still laying out there from a week ago. And so many cartons from beer and soda - he just piles them up instead of breaking them down so the garbage men can take them. I swear, he's the laziest!!!! So then he felt bad that I was cleaning up out there, too. What a jerk! I totally blame his mother for this - she did EVERYTHING for him when he was growing up. So now he is so irresponsible!

But on the plus side, I think I found us a way to save about $300/mo on health insurance. Jeff has Ally on his policy at work and pays about $400/mo for the two of them, but to add me it's an additional $600/mo! Outrageous! So I'm still covered under my old company's plan through cobra, but that's $400/mo for just me. So I got online and found a full plan, little higher deductible, but all other coverages are the same, office visit copays, drug plan, etc. And it's less than $500! I'm so pumped! So now I'm upping our life insurance with a 10 yr term policy. I don't worry so much about way down the road when we're old, but if anything would happen to one of us while Ally is young, we'd be screwed because we are definitely a two income household. And heaven knows Jeff would need a full time nanny/housekeeper if anything happened to me! So I just feel so much more secure now.

Jeff is out cutting the grass now. The storms are rolling in now so I hope he gets done in time. But then he won't trim or edge. Again, he'll do it half a$$ed! I used to do a lot of work in the yard, including cutting the grass, trimming, etc, but down here I'm chicken. Too many critters out there! And I can't operate the new trimmer he got - it's gas and I can't get it started! so I have to rely on him to do it. I'm about ready to call a lawn service (but not until I get a housekeeper!) so I know our yard will look good. Can you tell I'm on a tirade!!!!!

Speaking of critters, saw another skink on the front porch today. Lovely.

Hello everyone!
Spent a day at home pulling weeds! :scared: Then after an hour the girls started fighting in the pool. WHY? So I pulled them both out put them both in timeout and then had to hear DD9 ask why she couldn't go in the house to veg infront of the TV for the rest of the day.:happytv: hello it's gorgeous outside, enjoy the sun. Why do you want to drain your brain in front of the TV?

So I let her cry and whine about that for sometime, but of course I wanted to go in because my back was killing me from those darn weeds.

Hours later and she's sitting there telling us her head hurts - maybe it's because of all the TV you watch.

Oh there will be no dealing with her right now. She got her hair cut and that's all she can talk about.

I can't wait for the teenager years!!!

Wow, I just wanted to do a quick check in, but you gals are really dealing with some stuff. :
Tammie, I'm so tired, I tried following you but it was making my eyes cross, so I'll come back to your post later... But like Cammie - I think you rock as a MIL. I'd trade any day! :thumbsup2

Thank You for all of your prayers and well wishes:grouphug:  .
Renee- I am glad to hear you found a stroller that you love. I would go out and buy it but I cannot have a 4th stroller. We have one for my mother, our quattro and our maclaren.
Beautiful place to get engaged! Glad she is doing better - and so sweet of you to think of taking care of her! As for the stroller - you don't need it. It is just a smaller, lighter version of your Quattro. If you have it there is no need.

The vacation thing is driving me nuts. !
I hope that Beth feels better!!! Scarey for her and you! Make sure to keep her hydrated with that fever. Mia's constipation issues are always so much worse when we have fever a few days. I'm sure you already know that though! ;) As for the trip, what about ordering a free video for "just the two of us" vacations? Carlos hates the idea of taking the kids, but so many people have told him about the golf, dining, drinking/no driving, things to do that he thinks it would be more fun than Vegas. You know what you can/can't bring up - but I've not met too many people who enjoyed being out to see and having just short ports. I'd highly recommend an all inclusive resort over it.

Renee - I love Meat & 3s!!!!! But Cammie is right about cooking at home being cheaper. Jeff bough a couple of steaks, a bag of potatoes, and some broccoli, and we had nice steak dinners, all for less than $12! When I make my baked ziti, it costs about $5 for the things I have to buy (ground beef, ziti, cheese), everything else I have on hand. And we can eat off it for 3 days! OK, I have a challenge for you - figure out what you spend in an average week on food eating out. Then add in what you spend on average at the store. Try to start eating at home and figure out the cost difference. Take that money, physically take it out of the bank, and put it in an envelope/coffee can/whatever, and watch the savings grow! Even if you notice $10/week (but I have a feeling it will be quite a bit higher!) that's still over $500/yr! Don't tell Carlos, and then by the time Disney rolls around next year, you will have quite a little savings put away - maybe to upgrade resorts???

I'm going to start that pantry challenge again. !
First off, you are one smart cookie! :thumbsup2 I think I will do this. I think I will vomit when I see how much money we save at first, but I think it is an amazing idea! Thank you so much!!!!!

What is the pantry challenge. I think I missed that somehow????:confused3

Guess what I just did? Yup! I cleaned the kitchen!!!!
Guess what? If Jeff is like Carlos, he left it that way because he KNEW you'd do it! :lmao:
Ally requested spaghetti with meatballs. Well, I got rid of two partial boxes of pasta, one jar of spaghetti sauce, and we had meatballs in the freezer AND a partial bag of frozen garlic bread! Voila! Nothing to buy (Renee! :lmao: ), and I got rid of stuff in the pantry.
 ME TOO! We had spagetti tonight, although meat, pasta, sauce, bread and noodles set me back $15. WTH????

I need to pretend to still be sick too, so Jeff will sleep upstairs again.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I will NOT clean up after dinner tonight. Seriously. I won't.
SO, how was the kitchen? :rotfl: :confused3 :rotfl2: :lmao:

Cammie - thanks for your ideas too - they really helped to have you telling me to focus on one day at a time. I think that is what made me realize I really try to go from 0 to 160mph in 3.2 seconds sometimes. I think I need to break it down, take small steps (like planning 2 days instead of the week that I have failed at more than 10 times). I did that last night, and so far fairly good results. So here is to doing it.

I remembered why tonight I gave it up. I"m trying to cook, the kids are hanging on me screaming, running, crying. Man, all the money I save is going to go straight to Vodka, I sware! (just kidding.... maybe!)

I'd highly recommend an all inclusive resort over it.

ITA!!! :thumbsup2

The pantry challenge is something Debbie posted awhile back. It was a "challenge" to not buy anything for the pantry or freezer when you go to the store, instead, try to get creative and use up all your pantry and freezer stuff. The only thing you can buy at the store is dairy, produce, etc. I cheat a little bit, like buying cereal and other breakfast stuff, but it has really helped me to clean out my pantry. I found that I had 5 cans of cream of mushroom soup!!! So one night I made pork chops in the crock pot and just dumped in a can of soup. One down, 4 to go.... Then last night Ally really wanted spaghetti, we had the meat in the freezer, a jar of Ragu in the pantry, plus 1/4 box of thin spaghetti and 1/4 box of angel hair pasta, all gone now! The reason you spent $15 was because you didn't have that reserve. Meat is so expensive down here that when chicken breasts or ground chuck go on sale, we buy a TON of it and put it in the garage freezer. So we usually have at least that kind of meat on hand. And like I said, my pantry was so full of stuff, I mean there's cranberry sauce in there from Thanksgiving!!!! And 6 different boxes of pasta!:confused3 So it really helps to try to do this.... I did it for about 4 weeks and honestly only spent about $100 on groceries in that month! And we'd just eat out once a week.

Did Jeff clean up last night? Kinda. He loaded the dishwasher, but just won't wipe down the counters. And you're right, he won't clean because he knows that I will do it. That is the part that upsets me so much. I told him that when he does that he is being disrespectful and "using" me. He rolled his eyes. HOnestly, his dad is the same way so he's taught Jeff that it's not his job to clean house, etc. And he cut the grass last night, but didn't edge or trim. As usual.

Then my SIL called last night. Everything Jeff said to her, she one upped him. He was talking about our outdoor patio/summer kitchen project, she then proceeds to tell him about all this landscaping they're having done... all the while crying "poor." Then he mentions the heat down here, and she goes on about how much hotter it is up there. I think this was the first time that he was really bitter when he got off the phone. Oh, and I asked him where my $35 is that she still owes us for the gift for their parents? Jeff said he thinks they are just going to plant a tree in my honor in their new landscaping. Not funny. It's $35 - but it's the principal. Hmmm, I think I'll email her today.

Tina - I swear I think Ally is 7 going on 17 - she's already driving me crazy with the clothes, the hair, the nailpolish. And the little attitude!

Debbie - where are you????

Laura - How is Beth today?

Cammie - what I was thinking about DVC is that since we usually go on the weekends now that we're so close, we'd be using up points so fast, and we don't usually do deluxe anyway..... like this year, as a "typical" year, we spent 6 nights at POP - $600, then 2 nights at POR $360, then 3 nights at YC - $750, then 2 nights at CSR $300. Total nights 13 - $2000. And the stay at YC is not typical, so we're talking about $1200-$1300 on resort in a year. I don't think I could get 10 nights (including that many weekends!) out of 150 DVC points, and then justify the $13000 to buy in, plus around $750/year in maintenance costs. Know what I mean? When I figured it out before, to buy into BCV or BWV we would need 180 points for that. So there's another $2500 to buy in, plus another $150/year. I think if we're ever in a position to do this, we'd have to do some serious number crunching.

OK, I need ideas!

We have bought paint for our bedroom - verrrrrry pale blue. And we're adding white beadboard around the lower 1/3 of the walls. We are going for a "beachy" but classy theme here.

Now the problem. We're hunting for new bedroom furniture. I really want black - not laminate, more of the black wood, or maybe distressed looking. How will this go with the beachy look?

I was thinking of a white matelasse coverlet, and colorful throw pillows, but kinda sticking with yellow, white, and shades of blue. I was going to use my 2 white wicker chairs from the back porch in there, but Jeff gave them away!!! So I saw someone mention adirondack chairs in a beach decor.

Then I'm going to paint my bathroom a fairly dark slate blue (it's a HUGE bathroom!) and accent with lots of white and yellow.

Help!!! My main issue is the bedroom furniture. I don't want white cause then we're limited in decor in the future. We don't buy a lot of furniture - when we do, it lasts forever! Right now we have a dark cherry in there, but I want the big 4 poster king bed. Even thought of an iron sleigh bed, and then buying the dressers and night tables seperately. But we don't want the dark "brown" wood anymore.

Morning all!

Had a nice day at my friend's pool yesterday. Then we went out for Chinese food with our friends who are back from London. We had such a good time - I'm so glad they're back!

Laura - How's Beth doing today?

Tina - Your post reminded me that I have my OWN weeding to do this weekend. I swear, I feel like I just did it yet my mulch beds are looking like a jungle again!

Renee - That's my downfall when preparing dinner around here: I love to be sipping my wine! I think if I cut off my wine consumption during the week, I'd lose alot of weight!

Kara - I don't know if it would be fair of me to offer an opinion on the furniture. I really have no visualization when it comes to putting rooms together. My first impression when I saw the black furniture was that I didn't like it. But I know you're really good at decorating so I have no doubt that what you're thinking would probably look great!

As for DVC, I remember when we purchased, our guide told us that it would take around seven years before it started paying for itself - and that's only if we knew we would be using it every year. We knew we would be going every year and staying in a 1 bdrm. for at least a week, so we had figured it out and realized it was worth it. Funny, I just saw a thread the other day on one of the DVC boards about someone having a spreadsheet that shows the costs differences between having DVC or paying cash for your stays. I know DVC came out the winner.

How about some natural wood furniture? The black seems so drastic to me. Natural wood would give that comfy cozy feeling and you could still do so much with it. I checked the website and there's some nice maples in there that are soft, but still look really good quality. You're color scheme is making me think of Nantucket!

So today I don't know what to do. I told the girls I was going to take them to the Beach - the town beach in Franklin, MA, but now I really don't want to pay $12 to park. So now I'm going to take them to Target to get some paints so they can paint outside and then go in our pool later on. I just think they are already getting bored of going into our pool already and it's just the begining of the summer!

Maybe I'll take them to Capron park. The goal is to not spend too much money. I'm still trying to pay off the cc from our last Disney trip before we even think about planning our next Disney trip in 2010.

I have to go pick up an application at Franklin Bath and Body because they are opening one up in Foxboro and my friend is going to manage the store and she wants me to work with her.

Weeding didn't get done completely - the front didn't get done, but I feel good about what got done.

good news...beth's blood work came back good. Doc called back this am to check on her. The fever seems to have broken but we still have the rash. Doc still thinks it is something viral. Funny thing is we all feel fine. Our plan is to watch her and if the fever hasn't completely gone away by Monday then back to draw more blood for more tests. At least her mood has improved.

Ok now for my non-Martha opinion of furinture. Keep in mind it took me 3 months to pick out a paint. haha. I think the reason you are seeeing the black furniture with the lighter wall colors is that they balance them out. Think of the color wheel. If you want to go with the beachy blue theme you may have to consider something a bit lighter. I know that sherwin williams has a great on-line tool that can help you pick out paint with mock furniture in the room. After all you are Martha and it will turn out great. just keep us posted.

Weeding looks a lot like Wedding when you aren't fully functional in the AM. I about fell off of my chair when Cammie said she had her own wedding to do. I thought I missed something major. re-reading that made a lot more sense.

I'm working the disney angle because airfair in Oct to Orlando is cheaper than most places we've looked. still about $399 per person, mexico is $550 and Jamaica is $450. Plus it is the Food and Wine festival. Drinking around Epcot. (yummy) I did tell him I would talk to an agent about a super club. he has it in his heart that we will lay on the beach all day long. silly boy still thinks I am going to put on a bikini for him. I didn't 10 yrs ago what makes him think I will now. Oh well need to let him live in his fantasy world. :)

Tina - YES! The Nantucket look is what I'm going for! I posted my question on a Yahoo board and someone mentioned the black furniture, soft blue walls (which we're doing), white bead board (which we're doing), and black framed pics of the ocean and beach, whilte sheer drapes, white comforter, and vases filled with shells, that kind of thing. It sounds so serene. I think I'm gonna go for it!

It's funny to hear you say that the summer has just begun. Ally has already been out for 5 weeks and she starts back 5 weeks from MOnday!!! I can't believe it! But she's having a ball at camp!

I'm up, I'm moving around, I'm showered, I look halfway decent today!!! :cool1: Still coughing though, but it's getting better.

Cammie, poo poo on you! I'll send y'all pics when it's done. I can see it in my head, now if I can just get the bedroom to look like the picture, I'll be all set! I know you're right about DVC, but maybe I'm talking it down in my mind because I know we can't do it right now! But also because we like to stay at value resorts when we're there for a whole week, that is why I don't think it would be a good fit for us. HOWEVER, I'm still not giving up on my quest, because I would love to do deluxe every trip!!!! After all, I deserve it, right? :snooty: :rotfl:

OK, off to work.

Kara - I LOVE NANTUCKET! Haven't been there in aout 10 years, but I loved being there. Jette Beach, the old historic houses, the cobble stone roads, the beautiful hydrangeas!! That's the blue you're looking for hydrangeas! Then picture of hydrangeas for the walls. I hope you feel better. We just got over the summer cold and now DH isn't feel good - he's a mailman and with the hot temps he's been suffering with congestion too.

So I'm off. I think we're going to run around to some shops and then hit Capron park and then come back and jump into the pool. We're going to the Kid's Day festival at Mason field in North Attleboro tonight. I think there's fireworks. DD5 has been bugging me all week about a birthday party she has this Saturday, so I'm not sure when I'll be back on.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

HOW FUNNY - This is where I'm headed for our bedroom. Currently, it is not painted (same color as our bonus room) BUT, we have deep walnut furniture - more almost black. What I think makes it look more tropical is that it is a distressed style. It has darker "nicks", which I love because you can touch it up in no time with a stain pen. Anyway, I found a lovely white coverlet that is a quilt - reminds me of my grandma - and I have like a green curtain I'm wanting to trade for blue - slate blue. I was looking at curtains yesterday. The challenge is our bathroom is a green, and I'm worrying about the movement in. Our bathroom is two stories, so I don't want to repaint it unless I hire someone. With all my sinus/allergy issues, I'm just holding off on painting at least until the fall where I can keep the windows open for a couple of days! At any rate, I'm feeling what you are doing.

SO... I say go for the black. Have you ever had a poster? Our last one was and I HATED IT! Dwarfed the room and I couldn't believe how much more room I felt I had once we switched over to basically the third style you are showing, but it is solid with an ornate design, which I love. We have a chest, a TV armoire, a writing desk, our bed, dresser and two night stands in there, which is a lot of furniture, but it still feels spacious. With the poster - not so much. And keep in mind if you have a ceiling fan too. Learnt that one the hard way. :headache: I don't know if you have Kirklands there, but a couple years ago I got a great set of lamps there in a tropical feel. LOVE THEM - like $29 for the set - steal! But.. I think the look will be great - just do airy curtains if you do curtains to pull it together. I think the dark wood will be great - just try to find a distressed look. Hummm.... what about looking online at resorts for the area you like. They will probably show rooms and might give you ideas???? Just a thought.

Glad you feel better!

Hi everyone else!!!

PS - I personally love that first bed! BEAUTIFUL!

Just found this one, too.

B422-67-64-98-92_BIG.jpg

The accessories have a wood top to them. Kinda neat. I hear what you're saying about the big poster bed. I tend to agree with you. Jeff's feminine side must be coming out because he wants me to get the white sheers and drape around it. Every time he comes up with something like that I tell him he's been watching too much Bravo and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy! :rotfl2:

I'm really beginning to like the idea of black furniture up against the white beadboard. I think it will be really sharp! I think I'm gonna drag Jeff out furniture shopping this weekend!

I found it!!!!

br_rm_belmarblackposter

I like the shutter look on the furniture - makes it look cottagey. Although we have a fabulous furniture store here in town. It's in a huge barn, two stories, and they carry great quality brands, for a fraction of the cost. I still need to check them out first.

Can you tell I'm getting antsy to get this done now???

OK, here's the screen so far done.

Screen1.jpg

This side over on the end is not screened yet, cause that is where the kitchen/bar is going. So all these stupid bugs keep flying in and then they can't get out. The patio is just covered with dead bugs.

Screen2.jpg

ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!

Why does my business phone start ringing off the hook at 3pm every Friday!!!

Well, my SIL, after bragging about all this stuff their doing to their yard, trying to one up everything Jeff was talking about last night, just emailed me to tell me their having a Wii party - yes, they bought a Wii. So being the smart a$$ I am, I replied with, "yeah, Jeff wants one too but I told him we have too many other obligations right now.... btw, did you ever mail my check..."

Too much? I don't care - I am so sick of them crying poor - they couldn't spend more than $35 on a gift for her parents who spent over $2000 to take them to Disney, but they can buy a stinking Wii???? That just burns me up! What an ungrateful brat!

Ok, rant over.... for now!

Renee, I just told Jeff how y'all call me Martha and he about fell out of his chair laughing!!!! If you only knew.... And then I told him about your bonus room pic with Carlos bidding on clubs on ebay. He just nodded his head. He said the clubs by the desk and the BL on the desk were a dead giveaway! :rotfl:
