EWWWW YUCK!!!! Now I never want to live in FL.

I would get a book and slide it off the porch if you can then throw that book away.

I am so glad to hear you will be at 1900 the same time as us so much fun:goodvibes

I am going to AAA today to make another payment only problem is I have to give her my room request and I am not sure how to word it. I need a 1st floor corner room near the parking lot but not facing the parking lot. Make any sense?

Renee- Woo Hoo you're back!!!!

Hi Laura

The problem is that A) I don't want to get that close to it - book distance is waaaaay to close in my book (get it? in my book? :rotfl2: ); B) these things are fast! He might jump on me and crawl up my arm or something!

Yes, he's still alive - their tails regenerate! It's a defense mechanism to lose their tails like that so they can get away (from over rambuctious puppies!). Maybe I'll have Ally chase him away. She has them all named anyway - well, she thinks there's only two - Fred and Lucy. I'll just tell her this is their cousin Marvin or something! How sad am I? Trying to find a way for my 7 year old daughter to get the lizard off the porch?

Hi all,

Kara - I'm with you on that - toooooo close....::yes:: you need a pool cleaning net or something.... that's how we removed the little froggy from the pool on our trip, and then from the deck when it hopped out to get back in - then from the grass when I decided it wasn't far enough away....... We have frogs in our pond at home and they don't freak me out- but (and this sounds wierd i know) they are British frogs - is that racist??:lmao: Species-ist??:rotfl2:

I would not like to have to deal with the lizard life out there....

Oh, and when did everyone get nice clean tidy kitchens???? Now i do not believe the "I never get the house clean stuff" at all!! Obviously just me who's the sloven..... (my word of the day - you have to try to fit a non-common word into everyday conversation... so I have a filthy kitchen, but a great vocabulary!!)

Anyhow - welcome to all newcomers, I still can't believe it's as easy to have a conversation with you lot over there as it is to speak to a friend over here.....

The DD7 friend situation is improving slowly, just trying to get her to stand up for herself more, make up fun games they can ALL play etc and see how tricky it is for her best friend - friends with 2 people who don't get on, can't be much fun for her.... so my DD is making more effort to make friends with the "other" one.... Slowly but surely a little chink of happiness is coming through..... till the next crisis - of course....

Tessa

ITessa

Great! Now the Brits are bashing our American frogs! :rotfl2: That made me laugh out loud, Tessa!

I may try sweeping this guy out - but now I don't know where he is for sure. We have posts out there and the stucco only comes to within an inch of the ground (I guess for drainage, so the stucco doesn't mold?) and I think he's hiding under there, but I just don't want to go out there and be surprised by him (I'm sure it's a him, cause a her wouldn't do this to me, right?). I think I'll add to my NOT Mother of the Year Award and tell Ally she can't go to Disney unless she saves her parents from the tailless lizard! :rotfl2:

Ok, :lmao::lmao:so now I've been racist about the poor lizard and you've been sexist - so anyone for putting a religious slant on it for the full set - obviously it is already a "differentially able lizard" due to it's current tailless state....:lmao:

Watch out the animal protection people don't get on to you, - how would they put it?? - for failing to control a domestic canine in the presence of wild indigenous reptiles ;)(in your own yard... stranger things have happened in the UK!)

got to go cook for my hungry kids.....

I so wouldn't be surprised in Florida! They are very eco-friendly here!

got to go cook for my hungry kids.....
Tessa

Now don't get me wrong, I try to conserve wherever I can, and I'd consider us somewhat environmentally friendly. But Florida is very extreme. Every home in our subdivision has to have a live oak tree in the front yard. Before we can cut down a tree wider than 6" trunk we have to get approval. It doesn't matter why you're cutting it down, must get approval. Also, all landscaping must be 75% indigenous to the state of Florida. Now I do like the fact that all underground irrigation is "grey" water, meaning it is basically recycled - so not for washing cars or drinking. Also, all commercial buildings or shopping centers, must have X amount of trees for X amount of pavement, OR must have a retention pond. This is all used for the reclaimed water that is used. And they are VERY strict about all of this!

There is a big controversy going on now because Orlando wants to start getting water from the ST Johns River, and Jacksonville says "whoa!!!!" It is only one of 2 rivers in the US that flow North! And because it ends in Jacksonville before it runs out into the Atlantic, we have a lot of gators, turtles, etc, that live here. If Orlando starts taking the water, then the salt water from the ATlantic will come into the river up here, as the river goes down from Orlando sucking it out, and the wildlife will suffer as a result. Personally, I say if it kills the snakes and gators, have at it! :rotfl2: So the environmentalists up her are all in a tizzy, while the city of Orlando literally has enough water to last them like 5 more years, or something like that. It's all messed up. And after hearing all this, Jeff and I go to Blizzard Beach and see all the water running, and the kids water play areas in Toontown, and at POP, and we're like, huh. Wonder what the environmentalists think of this?

Ok - I'm devastated!:(

It's official - the Osbourne Christmas Lights will not be starting until the day AFTER Thanksgiving!!!!!!:furious:

Excuse me now while I go have an incredibly huge hissy fit (before my children get home!)

the whole water thing has me baffled. I guess I am just used to seeing "fresh" water every where. 15,000 lakes will do that to you.

Yucky on the lizzard.

Okay I have a dilema... a few years ago I had a falling out with friend from college. I actually introduced her and her husband. Tim and I were in the wedding. I apparently said something that upset her on her wedding day. To this day I don't know what I said. I have heard through the grape vine it was something about the bachelor party. Anyway this was 7 yrs ago. We haven't spoken since that night. I did get an e-mail on Sept 11, 2001 saying she really didn't want anything to do with me again. ( I remember the date because got the e-mail before I heard all of that bad news) To add to the trouble I was pregnant at the time. Yesterday I got a newsletter from college that she got a really big promotion. I don't have her e-mail address to send her a note but I can figure it out. The question is do I send a note of congratulations and say hope all is well or do I let it go. I had been letting it go for the last 7 yrs but I saw her name and it reminded me of what happened. I truely feel bad and I want to make it right but I don't know how. ughhh!

OH Laura, that sounds like quite a dilemma! I don't have any good advice either way. Part of me says just let it go, and the other part says send a note with a "hey let's let bygones be bygones" kinda thing. Did you have any other "catty" friends in the wedding that may have given her some misinformation to cause the riff? Strange that it was something so "terrible" that she won't talk to you, yet you can't even remember it! :confused3 People can be so childish, ya know? I had a very good friend who got upset with me because we did not invite children to our wedding. No big deal, we just wanted an adults reception. She got so upset that she didn't come, didn't even send a card! And I haven't spoken to her since. She keeps in touch with my parents, and even runs into them from time to time. She is so juvenile that she asks about my sister but doesn't even ask about me. I remember telling her that if she absolutely couldn't get a sitter, just go ahead and bring the baby (but this was a night wedding, so I can't imagine keeping a baby up that late anyway!). That's the last I heard.

The problem is not that she got angry with you - the problem is that she won't tell you why. Maybe drop her the note and see what happens?

Ok - hissy fit over. Still p-o'd but I'll live.

Laura - I'm all for mending fences; but, after seven years, what's the point? I know that may sound harsh, but it sounded incredibly harsh of your friend to just end the relationship the way she did with no explanation. Honestly, I have a hard enough time staying in touch with my college friends that I still get along with; don't know if, at this point in my life, I would go searching out someone to renew a friendship with. Sometimes it's just best to let sleeping dogs lay. But, on the other hand, sending a congrats note is harmless enough; just will have to be prepared if you don't get the type of response you're hoping for.

(I guess I'm a little cynical; guess that's what living in the Northeast does to a girl!:) )

Hi all just a fly by as i have just dropped a glass jar full of maple syrup all over my kitchen gggrrrr!!! Why is it sooo sticky!!

Not been around much recently, my days fly by at the mo .. roll on summer holidays i say!!

Tessa .. Do not worry i am still extremely messy in my kitchen compared to all these other tidy ladies ;) especially at the moment with maple syrup all over it!!!

Kara .... I feel for you with all your creepy crawlies and lizards

Hi to everyone

Kara hit it on the head. There were some other girls that didn't really like me. The girl and I were friends from college the others were her friends from High School. Lets just say this person really achieved more than anyone in her close group of friends every would dream of.

I guess I just carry this around and always think I am a good person and no one really dislikes me. It is the people pleaser in me. I think I will just send a short note saying congrats and hope all is well and leave it at that. Now I need to turn my mind off and move on to other things like getting Beth's room finished. :)

hi erin!

I made a version of yorkshire pudding the other day. Yummy!! Instead of using the juices from a roast I used a LOT of butter. I covered it in cooked apples and caramel sauce. Oh so yummy. Thought of you ....

Whew, Cammie! You are a grump today, huh! I saw the "projected" dates for the Osborne lights and they were showing after Thanksgiving. Is that when they normally turn them on? And okay, I've never been so.... WHAT exactly is so special about them? And why are they called Osborne lights?

Either way, I know you're bummed and I'm bummed for you!

(I guess I'm a little cynical; guess that's what living in the Northeast does to a girl!:) )

I'm also a little cynical over things like this .. I fell out with a friend a few years ago over something extremely ridiculous and i tried to mend it and she wasn't having any of it .. there's no way i would want to open up old wounds now!! But if you really want to send her a congrats then do but don't open yourself up to anymore hurt xxxx

Hi Laura

This was me today with the lizard!

This was me in the garage trying to decide which tool would be easiest to use to kill the creature!

And just for the record, my kitchen was only that clean in the first picture because we had just put it up for sale! And in the last picture it was clean because we had not moved in yet! :rotfl2:

And this is Laura today in Minnesota!
041.gif
J/K! I always tease my uncle that lives up there about it snowing for the 4th of July!

Last night Ally and I had our girls night - she wanted to watch Cinderella, which I haven't seen in forever! She ended up falling asleep before Cindy even made it to the ball, and would you believe that I left it on and watched the whole movie? It was fun. We ran a couple of errands in the rain, no umbrella, just running through the rain, and splashing in every puddle! She told me I'm the "funnest" person she knows! Jeff just tells me to grow up - NEVER! :rotfl2:

Oh kara this made me chuckle .. sounds like just something we would do .. Chloe tells me all the time "That i'm not really a proper grown up" and i wouldn't want to be ... YET .... hahahhhaa

I'm really antsy to hear about Ragland Road. Wait, didn't Erin eat there? Anyone?

Sorry i've been away soo long am going back over old posts .... Yes Kara i ate there on my last trip and loved it .. I had the Drunk chicken for a starter which was heavenly, my friend had the salmon which again was very very good and gets served with what the Irish call wheaten bread which is divine!! Then for my main i had a Pork special which was scrumptious and a friend had the sausages i think if i remember rightly ... Then desert i had champagne strawberries which i think was off specials board and friend had bread and butter pudding which was apparently good too!!! I had a child free evening that night so no idea what the kids menu is like sorry

Hope that helps

Yes, I'm in a B****Y mood today!

I spent most of my life being a "people-pleaser"; always worried about what others thought of me and it's gotten me NOWHERE! You can't please ALL of the people ALL of the time! I will bend over backwards for my dearest friends when I can and am generally a nice person; but I no longer feel obligated to have everyone like me.:)

As for the Osbourne Lights - Now there seems to be some discrepency; two differents places on the WDW site are listing two different start dates! Kara - the Lights are a special attraction at the back of DHS - in the streets of America. It's sooooo pretty! Just imagine walking through a neighborhood with all the houses decked from top to bottom in lights! Christmas music is piped in and every 15 minutes, they make the lights dance along to the music. Snow is falling, hot chocolate (& hot toddies) are served. Seriously, you could walk through it in 20 minutes but it is just so Christmas-y!:santa: It's a big thing for us to see because it's just such a "visual" attraction for Amanda - she really brightens up when we're in there.

Oh - it got it's name from the Osbourne family from Arkansas. This guy was a billionaire who started decking out his property in lights - became quite the attraction. The neighbors complained - so he PURCHASED their homes and widened his display. Eventually, the town made him take it down because it was causing traffic problems; Disney heard about him and offered to show the lights every year. They have alot of the same displays this guy used. You should definitely check it out!
