Can anyone help me find a place to stay for an extended period of time. I know about Home Suite Home, but am still searching -- they seem a little expensive. I'm planning on moving to Florida and need to find a safe place to stay for awhile why I get settled. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

lots of people in the orlando area seem to go with others - to lessen the costs.

Thanks, I'll check out those links. Home Suite Home is now $169 for the first week and $203 for each additional week. That's the one that is right outside the Animal Kingdom, I am wondering if the other ones are cheaper. I'm still in the early planning stages, but I want to be down there by the end of summer and am hoping to find something reasonable. I really don't know about sharing a place with others and I have no one else to go with me.

Good morning, we stay for 3 months just south of Disney in Jan, Feb, and March. Spouse works at Disney 2 days/week. We met two very nice retired women who worked with Von. One woman stayed in Extended Stay on 192 just south of Akingdom and also in the one farther east on 192...Both were marginal at best. Especially the one farther east on 192. She said they were was lots of noise, some scary confrontations in the parking lots and overall she did not feel safe in the one farther east on 192. She said the better one of the two is just south of AK on 192 with the Angels Buffet inside.
We helped them to find a fully furnished 2/2 condo at Windsor Palms for next winter for $1000/month ($500 each) including all utilities for 3 months. If you know your dates or approximate dates, you have nothing to lose by trying to contact owners of weekly rentals to see if they would be interested in renting to you by the month. Do you have any idea how long you need temporary housing?

Two options to start.
go to www.lastminutevillas.com and send a mass email to owners of one or two bedroom condos. Tell them you can afford X amount/month. Many owners will not bite, but you only need who wants a guaranteed income for a time period.
Second go to sites like www.vacationrentals.com or www.vrbo.com and at vacationrentals if you go the Disney area the units appear starting with one bedrooms. If they have an "availability calendar" check it and if it has date taken during your stay just move on to the next one...you will email the owners directly on these sites and not deal with any "middle men."
It does work but takes some time. On vrbo you have to click on the small icon that has bedrooms from least to most so you are searching by number of bedrooms rather than sorting through hundreds of places that are too big for your needs...T
There are many many choices and you might just find one that will help...In the $700 to $900/month range I would guess one bedroom or maybe two bedroom is your best bet. Remember this will include all utilities and furnishings....This is one option...if you do choose Extended Stay, advice from our friend is to do one with Angels buffet farther west on hwy 192 and get a room on the front side facing 192 not on the back side...

Good luck...Ted

The economy is pretty bad here, many are looking to rent out homes now, you can get one fairly cheap. The tourist industy isn't hurting yet so the places that are rented out for "tourist" are still going to get the top $$$. In the long run you are better off looking for a "real" home. It might just save you money over-all. I live in SW Fl. In the winter we have "Snow Birds" and they usually pay anywhere from $1000 to $2000 per month for a 3 bedroom house. This past winter, they were going for as little as $600! ...and that is on water... the economy is the same in Orlando as it is by me.. it is hurting. Homes are going into forclosures left and right. You might find a deal on a furnished home.. it is worth the time to check it out.... and you will be in a residental area as opposed to a tourist street ie: Irlo Bronson Highway.. would you really want to live on that road for a few months :confused3
