My 2yr old daughter turned two in December. We are working on her potty training but going at her speed if she wants to use the potty we have her sit on it until she is ready to get off. So far she hasn't done anything in it. The daycare has toilets in the room and the bigger kids use it often and she tries to use it at school but hasn't succedded yet. We go to Disney the first week in May and I'm wondering should we wait until we get back from Disney to start potty training really hard (switching to underwear, asking her to go every 30 mins etc.) or should we start now and possibly have the chance she isn't trained in the next two months and we have a ton of accidents. My fear is we will start her in underwear now, she will have accidents and I don't want to confuse her by putting her back in diapers just for the Disney trip. We are leaning toward waiting till we get back to really start with the underwear. She will be 2yr and 5 months when we get back from Disney. Any thoughts?? suggestions??

Everyone's going to have a different opinion on this one! :lmao:

Personally, I don't see a problem with waiting. We went to WDW when DD was potty-training, and it was difficult wearing diapers and trying to train. We tried to use Pull-ups, but with all the liquids we were pumping her full of to keep her from dehydrating, we were blowing through those like there was no tomorrow! Also, an interesting observation: while at the MK and attempting to use the "big potty", multiple toilets flushed at once, and the sound of all those industrial strength toilets going off at once was enough to make her instantly start crying. I think she thought she would be sucked to the center of the earth. It did take a little while to get back on track after that!

Good luck with the potty training!

If you aren't full on training, then I would wait.

One thing to maybe kick start it once you get back is let her pick out some underwear in Disney World and buy them as a souvenier. Yes, picking out Disney panties from a regular store is still a treat but actually come from Disney World EVEN BETTER (or at least my kids would think so -- they take pride in their Disney World stuff).

Good luck!

Voting for waiting too. In the early days of potty training, DS felt so bad about accidents. They always happened when he was into doing something and forgot (even after being asked a zillion times). I'd just wait to avoid that whole thing, but if you do decide to go ahead, I'd still do pull ups to avoid the mess!

I'd wait and let her pick out underwear at Disney. When you come home, you can full on train. As you have already realized, potty training is a big commitment on the parents' part and I wouldn't want to deal with that in Disney. Of course, I trained 3, 2 year olds in the fall so I could still be scarred from that experience.

It's funny you asked this question because I was going to ask almost the exact same one! My daughter just turned two this month and we are also going to go to Disney World in May. Before I had planned this trip I had intended to start training fairly soon after her birthday but I'm not sure she would be fully trained by the time we got to Disney. I hadn't thought of the buying underwear at Disney as an incentive though. I might try that.

Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you have a great trip!

i would wait as well.

from my experience with my two DDs once they were ready to be potty trained it happened within a few days. (they just decided that they wanted to do it themselves.) they have never had accidents since, even at night. both were at 2.5 any attempts before that and they simply refused and would pee all over the house. of course, if your DD decides to potty train before your trip that would be great, but I would not actively try to get her to do it. the pull-ups/diapers and being out of her routine will probably make the trip miserable and you'll probably have to start over once you return home.

This is exactly what DD did. DS is still not trained and he is almost 4.5 but he is special needs so there are extenuating circumstances.

our daughter started self training herself at like 22 months..right before we went to disney. we decided to keep her in diapers for the trip and if she said she needed to go on the potty, we would put her on it. Needless to say, she didn't go on the potty once while we were there.

I would suggest continue doing what you are doing....May is over 2 months away. She could be completely potty trained by then or not:) If she wants to use the potty let her, but I would probably put her in pullups or diapers.

WAIT.....WAIT.....WAIT!!! Save yourself the headache and your daughter the pressure! You will probably end up saving yourself time in the long run, because the older they are, the quicker they get it. Relax and have fun--don't spend your trip in WDW worrying about potty timing!! Good luck with it afterwards!
