Looking for a stroller

I need to buy my dgd a stroller for WDW trip. This will be the 3rd one I've purchased. Don't ask. Since she is 4, I don't want to make a huge investment money wise yet I want her to be comfortable and I want it to support her at 40 lbs. I want it to fold up as small as possible (maybe an umbrella type) for bus ease and have long handles (I am 5'10 and DH is 6'2). Any suggestions? Reletively inexpensive, strong enough to hold an older child, long handles and not too big. Is that too much to ask?:D

I saw an umbrella stroller a couple of weeks ago at Walmart that was nice and was only around $15. It had both a basket and a shade visor. The one I saw was nascar themed but they may have others. My 6 DS sat in it and he would fit but he is on the small side. The handles were higher than the one I have.

I went throught the same thing. My DS will be almost 3 when we go, but is as big as his 5/12 sister.
I bought the Kolcraft Sport at Kmart for $39.99 3 weeks ago. I have been very happy with it, except it folds a little funky. It is light weight, has a huge basket, canopy, and drink holders for him and us. His tray is removable. The handle also is a good height (my DH is 6'2"). I tried him in the cheaper umbrellas, but the canopy sat on his head. I also liked that this had a removeable padded seat and reclined.
Good luck!

I just had this conversation on the disABILITIES board, because I have a child with autism, and I'd like for him to be in a stroller in a crowded place like Disneyland. I ended up buying a jogging stroller. The Baby Jogger brand strollers can hold children up to 75 pounds. They aren't cheap, though. They've got a stroller that has double-swivel wheels on the front, so they maneuver much more easily than the usual joggers. (It's $279.00.) However, if you just want a less expensive stroller for a larger child and don't mind dealing with a stroller that's a little more unwieldy than you're probably used to, the joggers at ToysRUs are around $100, and they have a $10 off coupon right now.

Robinb I check out that stroller and it would be perfect except the recommended weight is 40 lbs and Haley is already at 41 or 42. I did find a Baby Trend stroller for around $100.00 on the internet that is wider in the seat and can hold 50 lbs.

Trly, do the joggers fold up? I can imagine getting on the WDW bus with un unfoldable stoller! Wouldn't I be popular? LOL I am going to check out Kmart, Walmart ToysRUs before I buy anything.

Thanks for all of your help. It is so great to get different opinions and ideas.

... but don't want to pay out too much money, try buying a used one. Look around for children's gear and/or sporting goods secondhand shops (joggers turn up at bike shops, too.) Three reputable chains for used children's goods that I know of are Once Upon a Child, Kid to Kid, and Children's Orchard. There are also locally-owned children's resale shops in most cities.

Another good possibility if you want a jogger is to rent one off-site in Orlando. There are a few shops that do this there, including Kids in Carseats, and Baby's Away. They deliver to hotels and usually cost less than renting in the parks. This is what I plan to do if DS still needs a stroller at WDW after he outgrows the Maclaren we have.

The joggers DO collapse. It's not difficult to do, and it's not very time consuming, but the result is not very...elegant...it's still more awkward and a little larger than a folded walking stroller. You can remove the front wheel pretty easily, and that reduces the size even further, but it adds to the hassle if you decide to do it.

I'm intrigued by the idea of renting a stroller outside the park. Does anyone know of a place in Anaheim that does this???

Hi!
We have one of the green Baby Trend Jogging Strollers from Toys R Us. We took in to WDW for our son (5 at the time). He loved it, but for me it definitely had its pros and cons compared to a regular stroller.

Pros:
Large comfortable seat - son loves riding in it!
Canvas material is easy to clean and sheds water well.
Big tires roll smoothly over bumpy terrain like the paths at the AK.
Large plastic fender keeps the child's feet out of the stroller wheel.

Cons:
Huge even when folded up! It is too big to go down the center aisle of the bus, and it blocks everyone else's way if you try to sit in front by the door. Only place on the bus there is room for this stroller is in the very back, and you will need to lift it above seat height to get it back there. And it's HEAVY!

Tricky to maneuver. To make the slightest turn, you need to push down on the handle and do a wheelie. Doing this all day for several days will probably make your arms extremely sore and achey. Mine were, and I was even conditioned from taking my son for long walks in that stroller before we went to WDW.

If you remove the front wheel, it is tricky to get back on... if you don't get it back on *just right*, the stroller will veer either left or right, and you will be doing even more wheelies to keep it on course.

Very long from front wheel to handle. This stoller can be hard to maneuver through tight or congested places. Plus, other people don't realize how long it is and keep tripping over the front wheel!

Actually (after all that), I LOVE this stoller at home for long walks down the sidewalk, or even trips to the mall. But all day for a week at WDW is another matter. Unless you are *very* conditioned to steering a jogger, and you have your own car to transport it, I would not recommend it! A lightweight super-umbrella stroller would be much more convenient as a vacation stroller. Good luck making your choice, and I hope you have a wonderful trip!
