Oh wow, it's getting very close now for our first ever trip! Is it really only a little over 6 weeks?!

We are so looking forward to our trip, but realise it will not be the normal relaxing beach holiday we are used to. :cool1: So we have decided to break up the holiday with a couple of trips to the coast. From searching other posts here we know about Clearwater and Datona beach, and the advantages of the west coast over the Atlantic. But we would really like to know about any quite beaches that aren't city beaches. Does anyone have anywhere they could recommend? We just want somewhere we could go to recharge our batteries before returning to the fun

Thanks...

Hello,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by beaches that aren't city beaches?

For example, Clearwater Beach being situated on a barrier island, you would never know you were even near a city when you were there :)

My absolute favourite beach is Siesta Key just south of Sarasota but (for me) this would be too far for a day trip. It's about two hours or so one way. Have you thought about making a break of it and booking a hotel for the night somewhere?

I definitely know of a beautiful place, great beach, not too busy, quiet, so relaxed, its a place called Anna Maria Island, its near Bradenton, less than 2 hours from Orlando on the Gulf of Mexico, the place is so fantastic! We spent a day there last September and it was heaven!

Here's a link to a website: http://www.annamariaisland.com

I cannot rant enough about this place :)

I'd second Siesta Key or Anna Maria but agree with Miffy - I'd do an overnight stay. In fact, we've had our main base in Anna Maria many times and taken 3 day trips to Orlando (but that was when DD was a toddler and not a hormonal 14 year old who needs to be entertained 24/7!).

Hope you have a fab trip :sunny: :sunny:

Anotehr vote for Anna Maria Island - stunning beaches and fabulous restaurants. A great place to kick back in the sun.

Many thanks.

Both Siesta Key and Anna Maria Island look just the ticket :thumbsup2

I suppose that's what I meant by non city beaches. I'm just looking into booking a couple of nights somewhere now.

Thanks.

Our American friends took us to port canaveral last time we were there. The beach was quiet you could see the dolphins swimming in the sea around you and there are also barbecues in small huts you can hire. while you are eating you can watch the huge cruise liners going out. Its only about an hour from Orlando but certainly a far cry from the hustle of the theme parks
