Looking for a new Camera

Hello Camera experts

I'm no professional, so I'm looking for a new Point & Shoot camera that's not too difficult to use.

My current everyday camera is an Olympus 1030SW. I bought it because we are avid cruisers & spend a lot of time at the beach. It has worked well for us. However, it has a lousy zoom. We're going an an Alaskan cruise in a couple months and I know my camera will never capture all there is to see.

Here's what I'm looking for...
Something with a great zoom (but not professional grade)
Easy to use
Less than $400
It doesn't have to be pocket-sized, but purse sized would be great!

I'm hoping to catch some great landscape/scenery shots.
Occasional night-time use - so just average pics would be OK there.
Rarely for moving objects (hopefully a whale or two, but thats about it)

You sound like my sister. I am NOT a fantastic photographer but I love to shoot good pictures. We love to cruise and travel. My first digital was an Olympis with a good zoom and I got some great pictures...but it was big and got sluggish as it got older. Second camera was pocket sized and great except 3x zoom just wasn't enough for me. I have researched cameras for 6 months now. Finally I just purchased Canon sx200is. It is 12.1 mp and 12x optical zoom. It is pocket sized (larger pocket) and it was $350. So far I LOVE IT. I took it to the park playing around and was very happy with the zoom. It does have image stabilization (which makes a huge difference with the big zoom), face detection and quite a few more features. I can't wait to take it on our Disney World trip in January.
