Looking for a great honeymoon idea

Hi all:

My wife and I are younger DVC members and got married last year. As we are planning on starting a family this time next year, we would like to try to do a nice honeymoon/first anniversary trip this spring or summer. She wants to do something Carribean or tropical, and preferably all inclusive. We live in Charleston, SC. We have considered a nice cruise or flying to an island and booking a resort. We passed on doing a big Christmas this year and have saved @ 2k dollars. We would like to not spend any more than that. Any suggestions?

I'd check out the cruises that leave from Charleston. You won't have any transportation costs if you go that route.

My DH and I thought we wanted a tropical honeymoon but couldn't get one with the timeshare trade we were given. We ended up staying in Flagstaff Arizona and visiting the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater and various other historic sites. It was really a great way for us to spend time together.

I mention this in case you want to think outside the box and do something non-typical which means more time with just the two of you and not a crowd.

We have looked at the cruises from Charleston. They are fairly pricey unless you do a room in the bowels of the ship. Have you ever been on one before?

I would do a cruise..but out of Florida because they have newer and bigger ships with more amenities. We love to cruise and would recommend Royal Caribbean for their WOW factor on their ships. Check out the Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas....Also Freedom of the Seas out of Port Canaveral. Their ships are truly amazing...so much to do.

You can price them at cheapertravel.com as well as crucon.com. Then go to cruisecompete and see what other agents offer you in way of upgrades or onboard credit...$$ you use to pay for things like excursions, alcohol drinls, etc..

Check out cruisecritic.com...like the DIS for cruising.

Forgot to mention..the bowels of the ship are actually a good location. The lower you are towards the middle of the ship is where you feel the least motion.

Of course, a balcony is great too. But...you get the same service and are only in the room to sleep if money is a concern.

Hello, fellow Charlestonian. My son and his bride drove to Port Canaveral for a Royal Caribbean honeymoon cruise in spring 2011 and enjoyed it so much that they are taking another one (shorter - 5 days) from Ft. Lauderdale in March. This is their Christmas present to each other. To them (and to us) the drive to Florida for a Royal Caribbean cruise is worth it.

We have always checked the on line prices for cruises and then booked directly with Royal, as they are often less expensive and offer specials (such as LEO/firefighter/military and state specials). You can call them back once a week until your cruise, and if there is a price drop, they refund your account. I got refunds of $1200 and $800 on the first two cruises I took with RC.
