I had the same leather sectional from LazyBoy for probably 10 years. It held up well, but finally it was time to put it to rest.

After that I bought a beautiful butterscotch colored chenielle set from Broyhill. It lasted about a year and looked like crap. Though I bought fabric that was rated "heavy" wear.

Now, I'm really at the bottom of the barrel. I replaced that set with another leather sectional, this time from Room to Go. I figured if it didn't last, at least I wouldn't have a lot invested. Of course, that was a bad move on my part. It's junk, it's all scratched up. It's uncomfortable. There is already stuffing coming out of a cushion that did not hold its seem.

So, I'm back on the hunt. Looking for comfortable, well made and ( hopefully ) long lasting. FAMILY room, husband eats on it while watching TV, I napped on it today. Dogs snooze on it all the time.

Suggestions are appreciated. I saw one I really loved at Ethan Allen. I didn't like the $6000 price tag, however.

We have a sectional from Action Lane.. think we bought it at Kaufmann's... it's 11 yrs old now, still looks great, no stains, no loss of stuffing or anything.

It's sort of a faux suede, microfiber type material (sorry, not sure what it's called).. camel color. Use it every day.. eat on it.. sleep on it (for naps, lol), kids jump on it.. cat sleeps on it. Has held up really well.

Love, love, love my LazyBoy sectional couch. Have had it for 14 years and it looks great! Did not go with leather, just a heavy fabric that cleans up really well. There is one section that's a little "soft" where everyone always sits, but other than that it's in perfect shape.

I buy another LazyBoy in a heartbeat!

We have a love seat and sofa set from LaZBoy that we bought in 2005 that looks brand new. It's fabric and I believe the name of the style is Montana. We picked out the fabric and had it made and we just love it. I think we paid just under $3000 for the sofa, love seat and ottoman.

Bought our sofa and loveseat at a local furniture store about 4 yrs. ago. I believe it is a Steelcase brand. We picked out a dark chenille fabric. It's held up well.

Sherrill, only upholstered furniture we buy. Some is nearly 15 years old and still looks great.

I would recommend the Thomasville Dolce Vita. We have had ours for 10 years and it is still going even with daily use by kid and dog (including both of them and DH and I eating on it). You can pick whichever fabric you want and they have a ton of choices. You can also do skirt or no skirt, and fringe or no fringe(pillows), depending on how formal you want it to look. I would also recommend buying the fabric protection plan, as I'm pretty sure that protecterant they put on is what has gotten us through lots of kid spills on the thing. It is so comfy that we had 3 other family members buy them after sitting on ours. Your fabric and other choices will determine what the price is, but it shouldn't be anywhere near the $6,000 Ethan Allen you saw. We got the large couch and the chair in a dressier version (skirts and fringe) for our formal living room recently, and I think both pieces together cost around $3,000.

I am not sure when LaZBoy started having all their work done overseas, but the quality has gone down.

We have a leather sofa and two recliners in green leather that were purchased in 1999 when my second son was born. They are all still in great condition, but we do treat them every 6-9 months with leather cleaner and leather conditioner.

Now, we also had a 1999 LaZBoy set that was cloth that did fall apart (the fabric anyway) and we got rid of that and bought a brand called FlexSteel. We LOVE FlexSteel! It is made in the USA and made very well. We get a lot of compliments on our sofa.

I hated to let it go! King Hickory that was my MIL's. We think it was almost 30 years old. It was always used. Fabric started to show wear. Go figure!:rolleyes1

My parents had a Lane sectional for many years and it was so comfortable and strudy with havy use. They still have it in their sun porch and my brothers and I have tried to take it for ourselves but my parents won't let it go!

I second the Flex Steel. It is heavy and very well made. I bought a used one on Craigslist 3 years ago and the upholstery is in very good condition and still very comfortable. It has held up with 3 dogs, a cat and a 4 year old.

Another vote for Sherrill. Am sitting comfortably now on a couch we got 13 yrs ago. Would look great had it not been for dog issues! I've considered recovering it.

I work for Calico Corners, and until I did I didn't know that they sell furniture and what makes a piece well built... If you have a store near you, check them out - we have tons of furniture styles and lots of fabrics to choose from.

I have a four year old Lazy Boy sectional that is microsuede and it has not held up well at all!! The cushions aren't comfortable the fabric hasn't held up (there are two areas that have come unsewn). I can't stand this couch, but I'm going to wait until my kids are a little older before I replace it. We won't be shopping for furniture at Lazy Boy in the future!!

I know the owner of Sherrill Furniture pretty well. There is a reason that furniture is built so well. He is a great man who cares about his employees. I would highly recommend this one too.

I third it. Ours is now in the basement, where all the teenagers hang out.

We have two recliners on the end and pull out bed. The cushions have held up, the upholstery needs cleaned and/or replaced. We bought it in the late 90's. The couch we replaced it with is three years old and is coming apart. Whatever it is, was bought at Sofa Select. We would have bought another Flexsteel, but the place where we bought the original is gone and the sister store in South Bend closed shortly afterwards. I know we will have to replace this POS in our family room now, it will be replaced with Flexsteel--I will find out where I can purchase it, even it means driving a distance.

(One thing to know, the Flexsteel was bought when my boys were little. Had numerous kids over, rough-housing, sleep overs, etc. My boys were young teens and tweens when we bought the new group. They don't see the level of wear and tear that the old did. I told hubby it would have been a better investment just re-upholstering the old set.)

Wow.

When we married, my parents gave us their couch that had been a gift to them when THEY married. So it was 35 years old. We had it reupholstered at that point. It is still going strong 2 kids and 23 years later, making it 48 years old.

The sofa cushions themselves have springs in them, as well as springs in the couch back and bottom. I have no idea who made it. The guy who did the reupholstering was drooling over it, kept commenting on how well made it was....

We also taught the kids young to 'respect' the furniture, no jumping, no feet up on it, etc. That rule applies for all visitors. (no adults ever tried to jump, but plenty of kids through the years had to be gently redirected....)

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy Ashley Furniture! :p I have 3 sofas in my home from Ashley (purchased new in 2006), and none of them have held up.

We just purchased this one (& the matching loveseat) from Bassett last spring --

I really wanted a sectional, but decided (after numerous measurings & configurations) that a sectional wouldn't fit well in our family room.

And, then, after we decided on leather, the only leather color I really liked was the caramel color, & I wanted something tailored-looking but still comfortable. Once we started looking, I discovered that the caramel color is extremely hard to find!

Bassett had another set very close to the one we ended up getting w/ more traditional curved arms, but I'm impatient & we could get the set w/ the track-style arms more quickly... so that's the one we purchased. Originally, I was worried about the track-style arms & thought I preferred the curved arms. However, now that we have it, I really like it. It's kind of modern/contemporary looking but still really comfortable.

The only thing we didn't get (which our kids really wanted) was seats that reclined. But I found that the more tailored sets didn't have the built-in recliners.

Anyway, I was very impressed w/ Bassett's service. Additionally, Bassett has a design service where you can design your own. Which was tempting. But, after years w/ a cheap sofa/loveseat set that had long lived past its life, I was ready for something new NOW.

So far, our sofa & loveseat has held up really well. I love the color! And they're so comfy!
