Looking for a Digital Camcorder...

Hey guys. I have been researching camcorders and I am wondering if anyone can help me out

I need the camcorder for recording my kids sports. It needs to be able to zoom at a reasonable level and it needs to be able to record in low light situations (ie soccer games at night). I also need to be able to edit the "film" so that I can create a highlight videos (and also weed out all the times I am just shooting grass, LOL).

I went to Best Buy, but did not get a good feeling from the sales associate (he did not seem to know more than what the box said). I have been reading and am no closer to knowing what is considered a good value for the $$$$ or which brand is best for my particular needs.

If anyone has any suggestions about which and where to buy, it would be appreciated.

PS Not looking to spend a fortune either, I do have a Disney vacation to pay for, muahahahahahaaaaa.

I have an old Sony 8MM Camcorder from 2001 which is on the large side and the battery won't hold a charge- Also got Samsung MiniDv Digital Cam Super Cheap ($129?) on Black Friday 06 and it has already stopped working. Won't record- Error Message....... (I guess you get what you pay for.) Need a good- quality- with zoom camera- for a good price.....ANY THOUGHTS?

We have a DVD camcorder. We picked this one for a few reasons but, mostly because the Hard drive camcorders did not have enough room for me. I like the DVD feature as it helps me with editing. It was cheap under...under $300. Nice zoom and not to bad at night. Great with very bright days..like at the beach...which oddly enough a lot are not good at. We went with the Samsung SC-DC164 shoots in NTSC and also +r Dual Layer. I mostly use the rewrites as after they are on the hard drive I can then reuse the disc.

Oh and it can also record to an SD memory card. and take still photos...not bad either...just a little hard to hold still with out the tripod.
