Looking for a contact person in upper management at DVC

So I had a much smaller issue, but one that I believed should have been fixed but the MS member refused to help and reaching to a supervisor may help.

As you know, due to COVID, they were allowing borrowed points to be returned to their original use year. However, they did not change the way points get allocated in a reservation. So, if you have banked, borrowed and current UY points, they still get used in that order. So when I cancelled my reservation and rebooked, my points were not automatically restored because there was a time before they would be returned. So I have 6 2020 UY points available and 27 2021 UY points in the reservation.

What I wanted was for them to change 6 of the points in my reservation that were from the 2021 borrowed UY to my 2020 UY. That would give me 6 more points in the 2021 UY that I could bank. I thought they would be understanding and be able to override the requirement to cancel and rebook that reservation. But they will not make that change. There would be no impact to other members so I don't understand why they cannot make that happen.

I think it is a system issue that has the points done this way and don’t think it is something that can be manually overridden in any way.

I had something last year where I transferred points from my June UY to my Dec UY. Because I had borrowed points..this was pre Covid...We could not get the system to do things in the order I needed as one trip was in March and the other in June.

Basically, the system would not use the transferred points until all my borrowed points were used, So, I had to cancel the night in June, modify my March trip using the borrowed points I had in the June trip, and then rebook the night in June which I could not do with the transferred points,

As long as you have banked or borrowed points in the account, the system will use those first before current UY points.

Definitely a system issue.

I am not losing sleep over it since I know a lot of people are dealing with way bigger issues with DVC and life in general right now. It would have just been nice that they realized the system was not modified with the new rule and would help people move points back to the best UY. I would never ask for more points or to have something changed that would impact other members, but I felt this should have been something they could handle.

All this means now is that I have to plan my 2022 trip to start on November 29th or 30th and span into my 2022 UY so I can bank my 6 points and actually use them in my 2021 UY which ends on November 30th.

Donate your points to 'Make a Wish' foundation, Yes it's not ideal for you but it does allow you to spread a little pixie dust around during the Holiday season and just imagine how hard it is being a sick kid during the pandemic.

I'm a high level essential worker and this pandemic has come close to breaking my spirit, Too many times I'm the only person in a building meant for thousands.

Now imagine a kid locked away from friends and extended family because they are ill. I've got zip to complain about compared to that kid.

And of course it keeps your points out of Disney's greedy tentacles
They would be held to the same timelines as the owner, so they would have to be used before they expired. And I’m pretty sure you’d actually have to book the reservation for them, like a rental. Plus Make a Wish has the GKTW campus nearby that they are able to use. But a lot of Make a Wish trips aren’t running now because of COVID. So it’s really not even an option.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input on my issue.
I wanted to give a followup. After speaking with 2 supervisors, (who both were very helpful), I was informed that they are handling these issues on a case by case basis, and will be looked into. Upon talking with them today, was informed that if I am able to give them a firm new travel date then and only then can they do a one time extension for those 37 points, with that being said, if I do book a new reservation, and if something does come up that I have to cancel, then those 37 points will be gone, and will no longer be able to be used via DVC or RCI.
Was also informed that to convert those 37 points to RCI, that I would have to make that decision by December 18th 2020.
So, I have made the decision to postpone my January 2021 trip, and re-booked the trip to the first 2 weeks in September 2021.
The 37 points from 2019 will be used for that reservation, as well as my 2020 points from the January trip will be used in September. (Any unused 2020 points were rolled into 2021 use year).
I am totally fine with this decision. Hoping that between now and September 2021, things will start looking a whole lot better with the covid-19 situation.
Again - I just wanted to give an update - that is all.
Thank you all again for your comments, concerns, and advise -- this is truly a great board with a lot of fantastic people!
Happy Holidays to everyone, and may 2021 be a much better year for everyone!
God Bless, and stay safe!

Happy for you...but have to admit am disappointed in DVCM doing these types of things case by case vs a standard policy.

If I was a VGC owner, who was told they could not extend, I’d be calling and requesting I get the same consideration.

I can't really say why but I'm ok with doing it this way in this type of circumstance. I've seen enough other exceptions over the years given for virtually nothing so when it's actually something like legitimate health concerns due to a pandemic I'm ok.

Glad it worked out for you but I wish I was given the same option. If they offer it to one person they should offer it to everyone. If they did offer that to everyone there would be a larger point problem. They should have stood their ground and not allowed this. I'll just make the best of an RCI trip though...

If I was a VGC owner, who was told they could not extend, I’d be calling and requesting I get the same consideration.

Well, I had some VGC points extended and weirdly a couple AKV points too. I have a December UY. Come mid October, I still had 10 VGC and 26 AKV points that were previously banked from 2018. I gifted 24 of the AKV points to a friend who was able to go in November for a couple nights leaving me with 10 VGC and 2 AKV points. I had 6-7 VGC trips booked and cancelled trying to use up those last few points (banked all 2019 except some November trip VGC points). I spoke with a supervisor at DVC about my issues. My 2019 banked points were banked with cancellation of VGC reservation since it was not going to reopen. And then they extended the 10 points and put them on my March reservation for me (show as 10 Riviera points on my dashboard with a April UY). I was ok with the 2 points I would lose from AKV. Imagine my surprise when I opened my dashboard after 12/1 and found those 2 points were now in a March UY for Riviera. Too bad I can't use them still, but it was a nice gesture.

I have another VGC reservation on 1/14 using my other membership with AKV points (my Feb UY). Honestly living in SoCal, I know there is no way it will be open by then (it is really bad here right now). I will be interested to see what happens with those 12 2020 UY points (assume my 5 borrowed 2021 will go back to 2021). Even extending will not help much since I am using the majority of the points on this contract (with my other AKV points transferred in for Sept 1 br at AKV) and an extension would only be a few months.

Again, I am happy for those that were able to get someone to do it, but given the current situation and number of owners who have issues, I just don’t agree it should be case by case like it is because there are more reports of owners being denied then being granted additional extensions like you and the OP.

Sure, in the past, when it was unique to owners and not a world wide situation, case by case make sense,

I am a creature who likes consistency as well, and given the level of points involved and owners impacted, I do believe it would be fairer to all to have a published policy that owners may qualify for exceptions if there are health reasons, and have some dedicated CMs to oversee it.

As long Disney is giving up the points on their side to offset this I am good. I think that's why they needed a specific date is they have points from contract they have bought back or they already own that they will use to cover this.

That sounds like it probably is what they did.

Agree.

I had a trip cancelled in May and chose to cancel a trip in Nov. I was told the 38 banked points were use them or lose them. In the end, my DD took a trip in Nov (off site) and used 36 points for a one night stay onsite. But back in July, I had no idea that trip would happen.

I do agree that since they are using their own points to offset it does make sense. Like I said above, my disappointment is not they have done it, but more they are caving when owners push it up the chain and that shouldn’t be happening during this time. While I didn’t lose any points, I have a few friends who did and it would have been nice to see them be given the same consideration for similar circumstances.

Well as I said, I only asked for help on my 10 2018 banked VGC points. It was not open nor would it be open in time to use them (closed 9 months now). I gifted my AKV points to a friend to use. And had 2 that I was willing to lose. I did not ask at all to have those extended. It was only my 10 VGC points (for a resort that was closed and had multiple reservations cancelled on through the year to try to use them in good faith at my home resort). As a VGC owner, I would expect my VGC points to be extended since it was and still is closed at this point. If you think about it, I only had 3.5 months to use them before the resort closed and who would have believed it would still be closed now?

As it is the way DVC has decided to handle it then it was perfectly reasonable to ask. Happy for you they assisted.

We've often heard stories of DVC offering "once in a lifetime" exceptions to written rules like point banking deadlines. If this falls under that umbrella, then it seems appropriate. No idea how rigidly they monitor those exceptions, though.

I do understand that. Was simply sharing my opinion that knowing the number of owners who tried and got a hard no before November 30th and lost points. It would be fairer to have a more consistent policy vs, a squeaky wheel/CM dependent one.
