Our family is looking for a Catholic Church near WDW for our next trip. We will be at SSR, our home resort. Does anyone have a suggestion or two?

Thanks!

This one is wonderful. They are kind to visitors. We've been there for Easter and Christmas services. They had large tents outside one time to make sure they could accomodate guest, with nice fans to keep you cool, chairs, everything was set up nicely.

When at Vero, there's a nice church next to Walmart to the north.

Definitely Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. Not only close, but beautiful as well. 8300 Vineland Av. From SSR, exit via hotel plaza bl toward Crossroads shopping center. Turn right, go under I-4, and turn left at stoplight at Vineland.
The church is just before the Premium Outlet center.

We visit Mary Queen of the Universe whenever we are at WDW over a Sunday. The Mass is always beautiful and the grounds a worth spending a few extra minutes to look around.

It is not a parish church - it was built just for the visitors to the area.

We go there all the time. It is beautiful. Also they have a very large religious gift shop that is open on sunday and Saturday if you decide to go to the vigil mass. It is a short drive from SSR and OKW.

Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine is the place! About 10 minutes from SSR and just waiting for you to stop by. ;)

It is a good idea to get to Mary Queen a little early. There are always LOTS of people attending. There are even traffic control officers at the entrances.

This is slightly OT but does anyone know if they perform weddings at the shrune? This would be for an out-of-state couple.

As I understand it, the Shrine - as a non-parish church - does not perform weddings or funerals or baptisms.......

It has been a "Godsend" to us whenever and where ever we've gone on vacation. Just type in the state, city, or zip code and it gives you all local Catholic churches and the distance from your chosen location. There are maps and, if the church has a homepage, the church's website.
Sometimes there's enough info to assist with chosing one church over another. There's nothing like showing up for mass to discover that it's conducted in Spanish (and you don't speak the language)!
Check it out ... it's free!

There used to be a Catholic mass held at the Polynesian on Sundays @ 8 and 10:15 am. Don't know if it's still available but it might be worth giving the front desk a call.

No Mass at Polynesian any more.

We do not go to the Queen of the Universe shrine for Mass, unless it's absolutely necessary. The last time we went there, in November, the priest waited over 20 minutes to begin the mass because of the number of people arriving late.

Oh yes, the priest helped kill the time, we got to hear rousing cheers from all of the people who are from : Michigan, Ohio, NJ, etc. For this I would go to Fantasmic.

We are planning to move to the Orlando area and we have found a wonderful faith community just a little further away from WDW. Holy Family Catholic Community 5125 S. Apopka-Vineland Rd. is a welcoming community, a large diverse parish and we prefer to go there. It has a web-site with mass times, and the phone # is 407-876-2211. We "found" this church on the DIS, perhaps it was on the Community Board, a few years ago, and we were thrilled.

We have visited the Shrine, and have gone to the museum and bookstore, but for Mass, we go elsewhere.

Masses are in English at Mary Queen of the Universe with a slight Irish brogue. :flower:

Thanks for the info, Bobbi. I will check out the Mass times at this church.

When at WDW we also go to Holy Family. We always go to the shrine to visit and look at the bookstore but we prefer Mass at Holy Family better. The Mass times also fit with our schedule better.

Thanks for the link! Finding masses and times can be the most difficult part of our travels. Link is now in outlook. Thanks again!

Thanks to those of you who recommended Holy Family too. Dh was not thrilled with Mary Queen of the Universe.

Thanks for the detailed directions, Mikesmom.
Are we the only ones kind of turned off by the "commercials" before, during and after Mass at Mary, Queesn of the Universe?
I understand the need to take in enough from visitors to keep the doors open, but geez...
