I'm looking for camping recommendations.

I'm planning our trip for next summer. We're driving from Dallas and stopping somewhere in the Mobile/ Pensacola-ish range. I wouln't object to going a little further east than that as well, I just want to make sure we get there in plenty of time to set up camp and having gone as far as Fort Walton Beach from here a few times, I know that area is do-able time wise.

We will be tent camping and while we can live without electric, it would be a plus so we can re-charge all the gadgets easily that night.

I'm trying to find something near I-10 and so far I've found at the KOA in Milton. We will go a little off the freeway, but I don't want to get too far off.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have stayed at the KOA in Tallahassee a couple of times. It is clean and not too far off the interstate. They have cabins that are reasonable if you don't want to pitch your tent. I didn't see if/where the tent sites are, so can't help with that.

I looked online at the one in Milton and it seems just as nice. I have never had any probs at a KOA. Of course, my experiences have been in a cabin or camper. The tent sites usually look less than adequate in a less than ideal location, buy that is JMHO. We have never set up our tent or popup on one night stays along the way though. We usually grab a cabin or a hotel with a continental breakfast. BTW, the KOA in Tallahassee does have a complimentary breakfast. That is probably where we will stay on our way down in May.

Hope you find just the right spot.

Go to Passport America site, its free to look at their campgrounds, there are several in the Fl. panhandle area, Also check Florida's state parks. We are staying in Destin, Fl. on the beach state park fullhook RV for $38

What park in Destin are you at? We are at HBST right now...in the RAIN! No big deal though...we livejust a few miles tp the east...just trying to be close to the fishing rodeo for a few days.

As far as a campground close to I-10, I have heard that the Blackwater State Park (around Milton, just east of P'cola) has been upgraded and is really nice.

We are staying at Henderson Beach state park. its a gated park and has a walkway to the beach...

I'd love to stay in Destin... we've vacationed in that area a few times and love it. But it's an hour off the beaten path for us. I have considered stopping there on the way home when we're not in "must get to Mickey as fast as we can" mode.

Thanks for the suggestions so far... keep them coming.

I'm from this area. The Milton KOA is nice but I don't know that I have seen tents there. A little farther down 90 from there is a state park call Blackwater. I have not stayed there in years but I have not been disappointed in FL state parks. What time are you going to get here? If it's too late putting up a tent might be difficult. Oh I was going to say if theres a place I can check out for you let me know. I'll be glad to.. I was just thinking Fort Picken on Pensacola Beach is open know for primative camping and maybe by then they could have full hook up! You would just get off on 110 and head to 98 then in Gulf Breeze look for Pensacola Beach.
Let me know if I can help.
