Looking for a camera

Now, u may have seen my previous thread from last night. I have a Canon A2100IS that is being returned to the store right now. It was really not an upgrade from my 1 year old camera (elcheapo A720IS) so why spend the $300

So....I like Canon but am starting to think that it may not be my best option.

I am looking for recommendations for a camera that will "think for me" when taking a photo . I also really want to have a good photo, nice colours...BUT it can not have the horrible long flash refresh rate that mine currently has.

(I upgraded the batteries (man they were pricey, $20 for 4) and that has helped a bit...rather than getting 7seconds and longer, I am consistently getting a .....6 second delay, maybe 5. Not too bad, but I am still missing the shot esp with regards to my kids.

My old A620 was fantastic for refresh rate. )

So I don't want to get into fancy schmancy expensive SLR, they are too big and I don't have time to learn how to really enjoy and get full use out of the camera. At least not now. I need something that I can take anywhere that holds well takes a good shot and has a fast refresh rate.

Does NOT have to be compact!

Help? Maybe enlighten me to other brands?

$300-$500 price range is fine.

From what I've seen of its high ISO ability...its also incredible. Results look pretty darn good even at ISO 1600. This basically means better shots in low light with no flash.

I'd go with the new Canon S90. It has a "fast" F2.0 lens allowing you to take many of your shots without a flash where it would have been impossible before. It's a fairly simple camera when compared to its G series brother the G11. I don't know the flash cycle time as it hasn't been released yet but I bet it will be adequate.

I'll vote for my usual Panasonic Lumix Tz5.

I only had Canon pns in the past, but the ones I checked out didn't do it for me the way that the Lumix did.

Compared to the Canon's it's faster between flashes, and faster between shots without the flash, has a long lasting battery, will think for you if you want it too, has a lot of scene modes and color modes, and takes good low light shots.

I love it - and love using it too. It's small enough and has the built it lens cover that I like too.

I agree with VVFF, S90 looks like an awesome camera, I'm sure you can't go wrong with f/2.0 at the wide end! Any of the prosumer compacts I imagine would fit the bill for what you're looking for, since they are designed for pros on the go, who want a camera as reliable as their workhorse DSLR.
