Obviously none of us can speak for what DVC intended. My guess is that there were several factors. No Deluxe's they could add to easily, wanted something so they could keep DVC going and it was an easy way to recycle the DI at the members expense. Basically cheaper for Disney and possibly for DVC than EP would have been. IMO SSR has so much more potential than DVC has taken advantage of.cobbler said:Again I still wonder if DVC took this direction to "take a step back and make it like OKW" because a lot of people were trading into OKW for the cheaper points and that is what DVC thought the people wanted.
Nor is it likely to ever be built.Deb & Bill said:So I guess Eagle Pines is really not going to succeed with some of you - not near any theme park or any Disney attraction (not even DTD), condo environment, only golf as the attraction.
And failed.tomandrobin said:You forget the Disney Institute was there.
And some of them can't deal with the fact that others don't like their resort or certain aspects of it. I know this doesn't apply to you but to some, it's like you insulted their children even if the criticism is right on. The fact that some are too thin skinned to allow others to express and opinion does not change anything.SimplyMagical said:You may not care about what people think about the resort you own, but believe me, there are many people who do!
cobbler said:Oh I am sure that is the case HERE on the boards. But we are just a very few skewed % of people that own at SSR.
Another reason I posted the poll on SSR, seems as though a lot has changed in a year since it was polled last.
Also - serious legit questions. Why is one of the items that makes SSR "good" and not "great" - or whatever - is the lack of room service when OKW doesn't have room service and there aren't any gripes on that?
Why is one of the other items that makes SSR "good" and not "great" is the lack of valet when OKW doesn't have it either and there aren't any gripes on that?
Why is one of the other items that makes SSR "good" and not "great" is the fact that it has exterior hallways when OKW has exterior hallways and there aren't any gripes on that?
Why is one of the other items that makes SSR "good" and not "great" is the lack of being close to a park when OKW isn't close to a park and there aren't any gripes on that?
Seriously, I am really trying to understand why its bad for SSR and not OKW. I would honestly appreciate an explanation. Is it because OKW was the first? Or is it because it requires fewer points so it can be tolerated for such cheap points? Would the complaints be there if SSR's points were on the same line as OKW? I just don't understand.
LisaS said:Given that one of things that draws people to BCV is SAB, I'm very surprised they didn't build something similar at SSR. I'm not familiar with the layout of SSR but given they are still building there, is there still room to include a spectacular pool there? Something with a lazy river would be great -- similar to the one at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
It should improve sales at SSR if it had the best pool of all of the DVC resorts. If we couldn't hop to that pool it would probably entice many of us who do not own at SSR to try to get in there once in a while at the 7 month mark. And maybe it would relieve some of the contention for reservations at BCV.
Throw in a great table service restaurant with a fantastic breakfast buffet and SSR starts looking better and better.
Beca said:SSR is 40.98% of all on-site DVC rooms. 41%?!!!! So, the owners of all 4 other on-site DVC's make up 59%, and SSR owners make up 41%? That means that, outside of your 7 month window, the chances of staying somewhere besides SSR become VERY small...that makes the quality of SSR ALL of our "business". As someone who owns in a system that shares availability with that resort, but has been told that we can never stay there (by dh), that really messes with my vacation plans. I hate feeling like I can only book between 7-11 months out, and there is NO flexibility in my vacation days...it is pretty stressful.
Daitcher said:Thanks guys for all of the thoughts. This post has run its course. Please put and end to it mods.My intention is to simply help make a better SSR for all and to create a resort that owners would be happy to stay at. People wouldn't be buying in to simply get into the system. They would be buying into a great resort that is the equal or better than the older DVC Resorts. Only time will tell but the jury is still out. I hope DVC is listening. The time I spent with this was never to start a bashing thread. It is going that way thus the end of the thread.
Thanks,
DAVE
The only email address in my Vacation Magic that didn't pertain to the newsletter itself was members@disneyvacationclub.com Not sure if that's the appropriate one or not!Beca said:I would be very happy to fwd my post (or, for that matter this entire thread) to DVC management. If someone would be so kind as to post the email address, I will certainly get an email sent off to them.
