ok, after just getting back from our vacation this past monday my wife and i have decided we want to add on some points at the BLT.

but after seeing the price difference of disney versus resale (timeshare) i am wondering why i wouldn't buy the resale.

is there any reason i don't see into buying with disney vs resale?

i see i could buy for less money and have points that were banked ready to use, so i get more points to start for less money.

The only reason I can think of is if you can't find a contract that meets your needs specifically and need to have the points soon and don't have the time to wait out the resale process.

We just added on 30 points through Disney because we have a June UY and those contracts are few and far between. Plus, we wanted a small # of points and needed points quickly so we could use them at our 11 month window.

In your case, there are a lot of contracts out there right now that may have the number of points and UY that you are looking for that might make going resale a much better option.

If you don't need the points right away and can find a contract with the use year you want, resale will most likely be a better option for you.

Sometimes the incentives that Disney offers on the resorts that are actively being sold offset the price difference. Many people choose Disney when the Disney incentives are good, they are purchasing a small number of points, or they need the points ASAP. Other reasons include their ability to finance through Disney or the ability to put a portion of the cost ($2500-$5000) on their Disney Visa with 0% financing for 6 months. Of course, many people don't even know about the resale market.

You need to consider all of the factors that would impact your contract when doing a side by side cost calculation.

Do you know why that is? June UY resale contracts being HTF, that is. We have a June UY as well, and there is hardly anything available on the resale market. I'd like to add on, but not with a different UY.

There have been times when the available contracts didn't have the prior year's points banked, didn't have the current year points, and didn't even have the next year's points because they had been borrowed and used.

I've seen some BLT resale contracts as low as $94/point, so if you have the time, resale is definitely the route to go (although, at that low price, ROFR might happen, but you never know...). Happy adding-on. :goodvibes

When they started selling BLT, they sold Feb UY as the standard so most new buyers got those. There is a post somewhere that lists the amount of points associated with each UY. IIRC, for BLT, June is one of the smaller ones to have points associated with it.

Sandisw is correct: To date, less than 10% of all BLT points sold have been in the June UY. The February UY is the most common UY at BLT with over 49% of BLT's points. Thus, I would expect to see far more February UY deeds than June UY available on the resale market.

Here is a link to a thread where we are tracking BLT sales: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=38818445&postcount=203

Good luck on finding a deed that suits your needs!

Well, that is somewhat frustrating to learn after the fact. Thanks to both of you for the info. We bought direct from Disney in April, and were never given a choice of UY. We were told it would be June, and that was that.

So it seems I will have a lot of difficulty finding a June UY resale contract.. :sad1:
