Look out world...it's a Princess's kingdom. Bow down, get in a gown or get out of the way.

I thought I'd heard it all. It seems like the Princess stuff and their pink counterparts are EVERYWHERE these days. You can't turn around without bonking your nose on somebody's tiara or seeing a teeshirt that says something like,oh I dunno.."I"m the princess..now bow down, get in a gown or get the heck outta the way.

Is this ever going to end? What happened to strong, independant girls who didn't NEED a man to get by in life? Have we turned all our little girls into simpering, glass slipper hunting, dream-wishing,gown-wearing, tiara toting bubbleheads?

Who says a Princess needs a man in her life and doesn't have a mind of her own?

I think it's ridiculous to not encourage both feminity and toughness. It makes for a more well rounded person and there's a princess and a toughie in all of us. Even monkeyboy.

And Princesses get better jewelry

I have a six yr old DD who feels like a princess all the time. With the way things are in the world today, she'll grow up fast enough, I am content with the fact that she feels like a princess in a castle

Well THIS Princess (I even have the tatoo to prove it!) isn't ashamed to admit that she NEEDS her Prince (a.k.a. DH John).

I guess I just don't understand because I was never into the princess thing when I was a kid. Ever. I saw Cinderella and thought "God what a wimp.Does she need someone to save her EVERY time?" I mean first it was her fairy godmother bibbidi-bobbdi-booing her into a gown and shoes that must have been awful to wear. I mean GLASS slippers? Who wears shoes, let alone high heels, made of glass? That's gotta hurt. Then her trust animal buds the mice come along and get her outta the locked-in-a-room jam. If it weren't for them..she'd never have gotten anywhere.

Makes me glad I had a boy. If a little boy is into princess stuff, well..then there's just something not right.;) :p

My sister is a princess and doesn't have a man. She's just spoiled. ;)

She loves the new Cinderella baby bedding - wants me to have a girl so I can buy it and give it to her when I'm done.

Just because you don't understand something, doesn't make it a bad thing.

Katerkat, my sister is another Princess without a man. She just dumped hers because he wasn't worshipping her in the manner in which she was accustomed :p and she loves the Cinderella bedding too. We're thinking about buying it and sending it to my brother as pay back for when/if he and his girlfriend get married and have a little girl

I'm not into the princesses that much either. I like my Pooh bear. :D

DD4 wants to be a princess half the time and a football player the other half. She doesn't even see the princesses as being dependent on men. If I asked her, she wouldn't even realize there were princes in the movies. Right now, boys are icky to her and she wants nothing to do with them, never mind think she has to be dependent on them.

I've always been the Sappy, Happily Ever After, Dreamer type person. DH has saved me over and over again and I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't been here TO Save Me! Part of me thinks I would be dead by now if he hadn't saved me.

I'm also a only child and have been a spoiled brat my whole life. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I was always given what I wanted as a child and after I was married DH continued the tradition. I don't know.............I do call myself a Princess, as does DH and I can definatly see the BAD POINTS of it but I'm not ashamed of who I am either or the way I look at life.

I know I'm weird

Hey! Did I miss this? Is March 27 a due date?

Humph! As I often told my daughter...you may be the princess but I am the queen.

That's why I like Mulan. Like CyranoJones I'm a queen too. I like that much better than a princess.

Mulan wasn't really royalty, but she's often grouped in with the princesses, as are Esmeralda and Megara. None of them particularly NEEDED a man. As for the actual princesses, well Jasmine was perfectly fine without Aladdin.

It is pretty funny when the do group Mulan in with them and when they don't. They don't do it when I'm looking for some new stuff to buy. :p

I noticed at TDS the other day that they now have "Princess" dolls of Belle, Mulan, Esmeralda, and Tinkerbell. None of whom were actual princesses.

I suppose if Belle married Beast, she became a princess, but she did not start out that way, and she was one tough cookie without a man backing her up too. ::yes::

I can understand your point of view. I am afraid I am one of those mothers that is guilty of having one of those little princesses of her own! She's only 3. She loves the princess stuff and being a girly girl as much as she likes her trucks and playing out in the mud! When she see's Beauty and The Beast she is more concerned about Belle's papa being lost and dying in the woods! I think children see things differently than we do as adults. My mother in law gave me the book "How to Grow a Girl". How many of us actually grew up believing Barbie had the ideal figure? I never even considered comparing my body to that of a Barbie doll. She was a doll to play! Dd has been stubborn and head strong since day one. Like all things this is probably just a stage that she is going through!

This too craze too will pass. Just be paitent!

Jodi :D

My least favorite Princess is Cinderella, hands down. Cinderella was such a door mat letting those evil Step-sisters and witch step-mom boss her around all those years, she should've taken the mice and ran. I hate that she waited till the big strong Prince rescued her, ick! :duck:

Meg's my favorite. Sure Meg was saved by Hercules BUT it was only after she saved him first!

Mulan kicked butt & Jasmine even has a fiesty independant side.

I'm not a big fan of Snow White and Sleepy Beauty but you can't really blame them for their troubles though, they were set up.

Esmeralda was a tough cookie & Belle's smart and strong, plus she told Gaston to kiss off.

Ariel is iffy, I hate that she left her family and little sea creature friends in the end for a guy but the fact that she saved Prince Eric not once but twice is a big plus.

Yeh, the only one I really have a problem with is Cinderella, get a back bone and save yourself honey! ;) :teeth: :upsidedow

I'm not afraid to admit it, I'm the mother of a princess, big time princess. But she'll beat the crap out of anyone that messes with her - or threaten to!

She's a tough cookie, she handles her 7 year old brother without problem, and she'll handle him wearing a tutu!

Here's her new room -

She's a girly girl that's for sure, but she's one of those kids that's not easily scared and will try just about anything once!

We'll see how the second girl turns out, I think she's out of luck, sink or swim in princessland!

This is an attitude I just don't get. I've heard it before too. And if you had had a girl, what then? Your world would have come to an end? And if you do have a girl who loves the princesses, what then? Yup, I have a little "princess" of my own. And nothing makes me more proud than to see the VERY independent little girl I'm raising not taking crap from anyone, including her big brother (almost 4 years older than her) or the boys on the playground! Raising the next generation of independent women is something to look forward to and be proud of! I don't think I need to squelsh her feminity in doing it either, she CAN have it all! ;)
