We live in GA now, so we're close enough that APs make sense. But prior to that, we lived in PA and would fly down, so we only went every couple of years. We would stay 14 days and have a 10 day ticket. But we always bought the water park option. That gives you 10 days of the 4 main parks AND 10 days of water parks. So you could have 4 days where you don't hit the 4 main parks, but just do a water park. That would still leave you with 6 more water park days, so if on one of your theme park days you wanted to spend a few hours in a water park too, you could.
If you have a car, you could also spend a day or two at a place like Daytona Beach. We love going there. It's only a 1hr 15min ride at the most. For $10, you can literally drive your car right onto the beach and park. No need to lug chairs/toys from a parking lot 3 blocks away, you park straight on the beach...you can set up your blanket 50' from your car if you want. It's awesome.
