The thread on here asking if your trip has been too long has me thinking about how long of a trip anyone has taken WITHOUT going into the parks. Is it possible to take a very long trip and stay out of the parks?

We've never done it but I don't see why you can't. The temptation will be there, but there's plenty to do to get your Disney fill other than the parks I could personally just hang out at the resort for a few days lounging by the pool, umbrella drinks, watching pool movies at night, occasionally walking to Disney Springs for dinner/shopping. The more I think about it, the more iLife the idea. A low key vacation to unwind,de stress, and unplug. Get reenergized and comeback to the daily grind with a better attitude.

The last two years we have gone for two weeks without going to the parks (sort of). I think the key is staying at OKW or SSR (possibly WLV). Good walking trails, lots of food choices. I do not think we could do it at one of the resorts near the parks as the parks would be too much of a draw. BCV and BWV would be the worst as the food choices are limited if you do not have access to EPCOT.

We do a five mile walk in the morning. Work for a few hours from our room. Go out for a late lunch or early dinner. Work for a few more hours.

We have done park tours that do not require park pass and Dining 'Events' to get a bit of the Disney experience.

An advantage of SSR and OKW - you have all the DTD restaurants and if you want to dine at any of the other resorts you can catch a direct bus from DTD.

Two weeks works for us. I think we could go for a bit longer but I think a month would be too long. (This might depend on how cold it is at home.) I also think the longer you stay the more you could justify an annual pass. Once you have an annual pass I would be tempted to go to the parks reasonably frequently 'to get the value from it'. An AP option similar to the Florida Residents EPCOT after 4 pm would be great as this would extend the dining options and provide a bit of evening entertainment making BCV and BWV more of an option.

I have done one trip 5 nights without the parks. I could have easily done a few more nights. (It was an unexpected/unplanned trip. My dd wanted to go so we took one of her friends. They did their own thing/parks, etc. and I was more or less on my own to explore and relax).

We have:
2 nights at VB
7 night DCL
5 nights at BWV
never set foot in a park.

We had a 10 night stay with only one attraction, Soarin' at Epcot.

We will be leaving in late February for--

2 nts BLT
4 nt DCL cruise on points
6 nts OKW

We are only planning one day at Epcot for the Flower & Garden Festival.

We are seriously considering selling our 22 year old DVC but if the above works out as a relaxing break from winter, we may keep doing it for a few more years.

I couldn't do it. I love the parades and fireworks too much. Now I have gone just for dinner and Illuminations before.

Not quite out of the parks but we have a 15 night stay coming up with only 8 days park tickets and we can't wait for our non park days

I couldn't do it for a long vacation, but DH could. We compromise some days no parks, some days just use 1-3 FPs.
