Long time N.Y.P.D. Blue fans, a question for you

I have only seen the later episode with Mark-Paul Gosselar and a little of the seasons with Rich Schroder. I am curious about something.

TNT has been playing earlier seasons I haven't seen before. I know that Sipowicz's partner gets killed. Which one is his partner? Is it Simone (who I think is totally hot)? I thought he dies of heart disease but I thought one of Andy's partners was actually killed. Someone help me out!
