Long hair over 40.

My MIL also said I a very ill mannered voice, " And When are you going to cut your hair". She said this in front of my teenage daughters who spoke up for me. They both exclaimed, "No Mommy do not cut it we love your hair"! She turned red when they both did not agree with her.

Love those 2 kids.

I was so upset for awhile that I did not cut my hair for a very long time. My hair really needed a trim to cut the ends and I refused. The only good thing that came out of her nasty statement was when I did get a trim my hair looke great.

Do not worry about your MIL if she is anything like my MIL she should keep her opinion to herself.

have just found the perfect shade of gray I was talking about earlier! Love it! Already have the bangs, would happily go back to layers around the face for this colour too... Hmmmm... Think, think,think...... Lol!

I just hit the big 47 and MIL (not my biggest fan) asked DH if I was going to cut my hair. It hits mid back and is styled close to Marie Osmond or Valerie Bertaneli. It is very thick and wavy and I consider it my best feature. I love that it only takes a few minutes to style and I also like that I can wear it many different ways. I started noticing that most of the women I work with cut their hair short when they have kids, I did not but I wore a lot more pony tails. Do you think long hair is somehow wrong after 40. P.S. I do get compliments all the time on my hair.

Is there an age you consider to old for long hair?

She is just a cranky old lady who can stand that you look better then her!

Hills Adorable!

I remember when my mom was 30, and cut her hair short. She told me, "When a woman hits 30, they can't pull off long hair." Interesting thing....she's near 60 now, and her hair is much longer than it was at 30.

I'm in my 40s. Long hair. No apologies!

I just turned 46. I have been growing my hair out for the past year, after having an inverted bob. My hair is now shoulder length. I REALLY want to grow it long enough to donate it, but I'm not sure I have the patience. Honestly, I don't care what people think of my hair length or my age.

I think it really depends on your hair health. Long hair looks good when it's in great shape but doesn't look good on a person of ANY age when it's scraggly and damaged looking.

Like in this before after, her hair was too long IMO before but looks much better after.

I think that's the problem with women that let their hair grow really long. Some go months, or even years, without getting it trimmed or styled and inevitably they fall into that "witchy" look. That look doesn't do anyone any favors, not matter how old they are.

I'm 49 and my hair is just below my shoulders and layered. I get a cut and blowdry every 5 weeks.

I think it depends entirely on the person. I happen to have super thick hair and it is down to my waist. It is so much easier to take care of long, rather than short. I am 54. I cannot go out in public without getting at least 3 compliments on my hair. In addition, I have an unusual "color" job, that I do myself, but involves blonding only the front part of my hair. I have actually been stopped on several occasions and asked in great detail about how to duplicate the results that I have. My hair has a life of its' own and my friends/family always crack up when they're out with me at the lengths people will go to talk about my hair. When even the young hostesses at any restaurant express a compliment, I realize I am on to something! I plan to change nothing as I age, as I don't want to do the work involved in keeping up a short do.

For the record, I have been wearing "Elsa" hair since before there was an Elsa. It really does look almost identical and I am finally "cool!" :cool1:

It sounds gorgeous! Would you mind posting a picture? Or PM me one (I can understand not wanting to post pictures, I don't like to do that either.

I get plenty of compliments on my hair too, but it's not natural, so I can't really take the credit although I just smile and say 'thank you'. After all, I paid for it, so it's technically 'mine', right?

I have no plans on cutting my hair very short. I will keep my hair as long as it will grow. I do not understand any "rule" that proposes otherwise.

Glad to see this because I am mid-40s and have been growing my hair out over the last year and want it to get longer. Right now, it is just past my shoulders. I cannot do short hair.

I had it short last year, much shorter than I'd asked for, and hated it. Short as in the hair at the back of my neck was probably 1/4" long. It made me feel terrible and like I had one of those, "I give up, mom" cuts. Plus I'm tall and it made me feel like I looked out of balance. I know not all short hair is like this but that's how it felt on me. I love short hair on others but I can't pull it off.

I have thick, naturally curly hair and like my curls. I can't see ever getting it cut past my shoulders again and it took me a long time to trust someone else to even trim it.

I do think it's important to keep it in some sort of style and trimmed. That witchy look is just letting it go long without any maintenance of any sort. I don't think that works for anyone.

I had 19 inches cut off about six months ago. I'm 47. I decided to get a short cut. It took some getting used to, but I receive so many compliments. Many people tell me I look so much younger and a few friends didn't even recognize me.

It depends on the style and texture of the hair. Long, dull, frizzy and limp hair isn't attractive on anyone at any age.

Superlong hair, IMO, ist not attractive on anyone. Like this:

This one looks awesome!

I also don't think long hair parted in the middle is a good look either.

Robin, if Queen Latifah is too short, this one is longer and so beautiful.

I REALLY like that one, thanks!!! My hair is darker but very thick, I think that'll work.

Love the layers on the second one, and the first one.... I would chase her with scissors!!!

"Age Appropriate" was the term DW's BIL used when her sister opted to go for a granny cut.

I don't find short hair on women attractive. Luckily DW feels the same & refuses to go shorter than shoulder length.

I'd love to see a pic too!
I've been dying my long hair ever since I can remember and always get compliments on the color. No one ever believes that I just do it myself using the box stuff you buy at the store. I have no plans of ever cutting it short.

This is an obsession of my son's also. I love the look on some women, he thinks they look mannish :headache:

His current girlfriend has hair to her butt! I think he'd die if she cut it. She's 21 and from Bangladesh, it looks amazing on her.

I'm 47. I had long hair below my bra strap. Had it cut about a month ago into a bob just above my shoulders. I love it!!!! I am overweight. but it looks better than I thought it would. Everyone loves it. They say I look thinner and 10 years younger. Its so easy to take care of, quicker to dry, easy to style and still long enough for a "little" ponytail. I'll never let it grow out again!:)
