I know this is a really silly pet peeve, but for the life of me I can't figure out why someone with long hair would not pull their hair back into a pony tail or some other type of hair style while playing a sport or excercising. I am talking longer hair...past the shoulders that is definitely long enough.

I saw several joggers this weekend as well as several girls on TV in the basketball tournament. I remember in highschool there used to be several players that I played basketball against that didn't as well. That would drive me absolutely batty! Sometimes sitting at work my hair drives me nuts and I want to pull it up let alone out on a jog :goodvibes

So, while yes I realize it is a silly pet peeve (and aren't all pet peeves silly in a way) can someone please illuminate me on why you wouldn't pull your hair up?

Pulling my hair back and working out sometimes gives me a headache. I am much more comfortable with my hair just down. Doesn't bother me a bit.

Why would you care what somebody is doing with their own hair?

have you ever watched Anderson Varejao? LeBron James actually asked him not to pull it back while playing. LOL I can't imagine having it stick to your neck while running. My neck itches thinking about it.

My hair usually falls down from a ponytail and is a real annoyance to fix while running. If I have a ponytail tight enough to keep it up long term, I wind up with a massive headache. So I like to leave it down. Not sure why something I do while exercising that is comfortable to me, would annoy you though :confused3

Mine is not quite that long, but putting it in any kind of band or wrap will give me a headache. I would think that would be the reason for a lot of people.

I know for several of the girls that DD has play softball and basketball with, it's the parents who don't THINK about having the kid pull their hair up, because in everyday wear they always have it down.

By DD's 2nd year of prep softball, any of the girls who had long hair, knew that if they asked, I would always have extra ponytail holders on hand and would help them pull it up. The one girl told her mom not to do it, because she didn't get it pulled up good enough, just let Ms Jen do it.

The one that make us shake our heads, is the untied shoes. By now it's force of habit, but both of the kids double knot their shoes for any sporting event. We had to hurry to one of the games this year and as I went by DD and the rest of the team, DD was kneeling down retieing her shoes and heard her tell 3 of the girls to tighten up their laces. After that, it became a part of their pre-game routine to all double tie their shoes before hitting the courts. We were the only team that was never being waited on while one or more kid was tieing their shoes

I hear you on the shoe tying! I coach youth field hockey and it is an epidemic. I have a pregame ritual where the kids (and the nearby parents) check all the shoes and double and triple knot them. But never fail, one comes undone during a game and I am scrambling to get a sub in and tie that poor kids shoes. You would not believe how many FOURTH GRADERS cannot tie their own shoes. At practices I made a rule that I will not tie shoes because it was so ridiculous!
