Our Cast:
DawnMaree: That would be me, the ultimate planner for our whole group. After this trip I think I still need to perfect my planning.
Rob: My husband. Not as gung-ho about Disney as I am but still was excited to go on this trip.
Evan: 4-year-old son, a.k.a. Papas boy. He is definitely a temperamental child who needs a lot of attention. We had some trying times with him this vacation.
Alec: 2½-year-old son. Daddys boy by day, Mommys boy by night.
Grandma: My mom. Very generous lady, my best friend. She was looking forward to relaxing by the pool (ha).
Papa G: My dad. This would be the official Papa of Evan. He is completely crazy for his grandsons and really would spend the entire time with them if he could.
Grammy: My mother-in-law. First time going to Disney World and really the first vacation of this kind of magnitude for her and Papa W.
Papa W: My father-in-law. He is not a very expressive person, just went along with what everyone else wanted. Grammy had to warn him ahead of time about how expensive Disney really was.
Stormalong Bay, Going Home - Saturday, November 15th
It was a sort of sad day knowing we were going home. We had until 3 p.m. to enjoy ourselves though and decided to try to make the most of it around our resort. We had a light breakfast again at the Ale & Compass. When the pool opening at 10 a.m. we were all there. It was extremely enjoyable. Everyone was loving it and soaking up the sun while we still could, knowing back in New York there was snow covering the ground.
I was able to get a late check out of 1 p.m. but my parents could only get noon and my in-laws couldnt get any later. They were told that they only let 1 room per section have late check out. My parents and the in-laws rooms were connected so the in-laws stowed their bags at my parents until noon and they all had their luggage picked up at noon. They told us they would meet us in the lobby. Rob & I were hustling to get ready and get the rest of the packing done. I cant believe how much we had to shove in the suitcases. By 12:40 p.m. we were done and sadly I called the bellhop to come get our luggage to store until 3 p.m.
We found Grandma, Grammy, and the Papas (who had taken Evan & Alec) not in the lobby but on the nice rocking chairs just outside the lobby. We headed over to Beaches & Cream for lunch. They told us that unless we wanted to wait 1½ hours for tables together, we would have to split up. We said fine. Waited only about 15 to 20 minutes and Rob, the boys, and my table was ready. Grandma, Grammy, and the Papas table was ready about 5 minutes later. We had booths right next to each other so it was nice. The burgers were great and so was the ice cream. Im glad the boys shared mine because I could never have finished it.
Well, there was just enough time to go to the gift shop for some last minute things. I needed some juice for the boys for our trip and some cough drops for me. I was hacking quite bad. We made our way to the front of the resort to wait for our luxury van from FL Tours, supposed to pick us up at 3 p.m. They showed up at 3:10 p.m. - not with a luxury van - but with a stretch limo. That was great and everything but the amount of baggage we had for 8 people. The driver had no clue we would have that much. The bellhop told me secretively that he had seen worse and he packed up the limos trunk until full and then put the rest of the luggage in the front seat with the driver. We only had the double stroller left and we had to put that inside with the rest of us in the back. The limo was really comfortable. I hadnt been in one since Rob & my wedding so it was fun too.
We were at the airport in plenty of time and used Deltas kiosk to check in and gave our luggage to baggage security checks. We started heading toward the security check when Papa G asked what we do now without boarding passes. I said to him, Didnt you take them from the kiosk? He said that there were none to take and had no clue he was supposed to get them. I started running back to the kiosk where I found all our boarding passes on top of the kiosk he had used. I just shook my head at him and laughed because he is the type of guy who is always right. The line for security was huge. We walked up and showed our boarding passes with ID and the attendant told us to go to the line to the extreme right. It was a no waiting line. I think it must have been because we had a double stroller. Thats the only reason I can think of. How wonderful for us. So we got to our gate and settled in until we had to board.
The flight to Atlanta was uneventful. We were 20 minutes early but had to sit on the runway because our gate wasnt ready. After 20 minutes (go figure) they reassigned our gate. Our connecting flight to Syracuse was at the extreme other end of the building but we had plenty of time. The final leg of our flight was again uneventful and we were in Syracuse at about 10:15 p.m. After finally collecting our luggage, we headed home.
The boys were wound up and still had colds. I let Evan sleep with me because he was really whiny and not feeling well. Rob slept in Alecs room with him. I dont think we went to bed until midnight. Poor little sick boys. That was the end of our Disney World vacation. Sniff...sniff.
I will write one more report summing up our trip. Our highs, our lows, and what I hopefully learned from this trip. I am also going to try to get the rest of my vacation pictures done online so I can either put them in my report or put a link to them...
