Lone Ranger 160-190 Million Dollar hit in the pocket for Disney

Yeap....the lone Ranger did not do well at all.

However its really meaningless against the BILLIONS the other Disney movies have made SO FAR this year.:thumbsup2

Every studio has a bad movies now and then, Disney has winners much more then the others. studios do.

AKK

I actually thought the Movie was good. I could have done without the ridiculous comical stunts though.

Disney was likely banking on Johnny Depp to overcome the fact that Westerns do not do particularly well on the international market. This clearly did not happen.

They'll still make a bit of money on video, but in the end, it seems that John Carter did better...

Nothing like a good loss to off-set some of your Iron Man / Monster's U taxes :thumbsup2

Ouch

1) We saw the free premier of the film.
2) Based upon that, my previous posts predicted a major loss.
3) It was just a poor movie (although some did like it, just not enough).

The movie has pulled in almost $176m with international sales. With DVD sales it'll probably break even if not eke out a marginal profit.
John Carter actually made $30m at the box office BTW. Both pretty crappy really but definitely not a burden to company (except maybe to business projections).
Well I guess they don't include marketing figures in the films total cost. That is where they are losing all their money. I can't beleive they spent like $120m trying to market that film. I saw like two TV adds. There wasn't a Lone Ranger monorail wrap was there?

I had hoped that in the future I could have gone to Disney Parks and in the frontier land get the chance to meet the lone Ranger and Tonto, but unless it does something spetacular on DVD / homesales It is not going to happen.

It just opened in Japan last weekend so hopefully the international sales are not done still.

Not a chance. They may eventually get to the (advertised) movie budget, but they will never recoup the marketing costs.

To be quite honest, the movie didn't look appealing at all. I didn't see it, I'll probably eventually watch it but not anytime soon. The plot seems boring, I'm just not interested in the whole 1800's western theme.

Now, John Carter was amazing and I was so sad to learn how horrible that did.

Thought The Lone Ranger was fantastic. Such a fun movie. Can't understand why most of the American critics hated it, while the critics over here in the U.K. have embraced it!
