We'll be arriving in LA on 10th August from UK. On 11th my DH is going to a baseball game in the evening so I'm wondering what I can do that evening on my own, bearing in mind that I'll be extremely jet-lagged! We're staying in Long Beach but was wondering about a tour of LA? Any suggestions will be very welcome!

If it is still day light I would head for a walk on the beach to clear the cobwebs. Otherwise i would book myself into the spa for the evening :)

Long Beach is quite a distance from LA, so I wouldn't reccomend it, especially at night. There is a cute shopping district in Long Beach called Third Street (I think that's right, I might be confusing it with Santa Monica) that would be a nice place for a walk in the evening. The weather should be lovely for a stroll at dusk.

You're confusing it with Santa Monica. However, there is lots to do in downtown Long Beach. They've really added a lot of nice little restaurants and boutiques into that whole area.

Many thanks everyone! I hadn't realised LA wasn't near Long Beach (must look at a map!!!). I'll probably stick around Long Beach then and enjoy the beach and shops and just revel in being in California!!! :cheer2: Only 52 days to go :sunny:

Then maybe it is called First Street. I know it exists, I just can't remember the name of the street.

The place in Santa Monica is called the Third Street Promendae. The area in Long Beach is called Pine Avenue which has the shops/restaurants/movie theatres.

Another option to Pine Ave is the nearby Pike at Rainbow Harbor w/more shops/restaurants/movietheatres.

I think the place you are thinking about is 2nd street - It's a great area in Long Beach known as Belmont Shores. Lots of food and shopping there. Coffee houses, clothing stores, nail & spa places, sweet shops, etc....

There is also a place on the other side of Long Beach that is fairly new called "The Pike" There is a movie theater there and some shops and food. You can walk across the street to where there are more restuarants and shops. It's a neat little area. Also right there (and walking distance) is the the Aquarium of the Pacific. Not sure what time they close.

Any other help, let me know - I live in the city next door to Long Beach now, but before, I lived in Long Beach over 12 years -

We're staying on the Queen Mary - am I right in thinking that's near where you're talking about? If so, that would be really handy!! :sunny:

Very near! Walking around the areas I listed we had a LOVELY view of the Queen Mary. We stayed at the Hyatt, and I really wanted to do a tour of QM, but DS9 had seen the program about it being haunted - I can't remember now if it was on the Discovery Channel, History Channel, or Travel Channel, but he refused to go. Additionally, I had read that there was a Soviet Nuclear Submarine right by it that had tours. I toured the WWII submarine in San Francisco and I thought this would be really cool also, but DH said he would be clautrophobic. Hmmm, maybe my guys are just not adventures enough! :teeth:

That's great and thank you so much for those great links to Shoreline Village and the Pike website - they look really interesting :cheer2:
