London Underground Bought To A Standstill

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.

I too woke to this terrible news. Just devastating, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and fellow countrymen.

Sitting here crying. My prayers are with you all.

May God have mercy on us all.

BBC reported that the pound has "weakened" against the dollar.

It's the least of our worries now, isn't it? Put things in perspective.

I think the authoritites are now advising people to not try to travel to London for the next few days (sorry to those going to concerts).

My SIL lives and works in London, she got to work ok (thankfully) but has no idea how she'll get home.

It's an absoloute nightmare.

Oh no, I was hoping casualties would be minimal. This just makes me sick, I'm crying watching the news too.

We're with you in spirit :grouphug: I wish there was something we could do to help. Bless you guys, stay safe.

I am stuck in London as we 'speak'. It is total chaos. I come into London Liverpool Street and by the grace of God managed to catch an earlier train this morning so just missed the first explosion. I and hundreds of others are stuck as London has pretty much come to a standstill. All undergrounds have closed, all busses have been stopped, cars are not being let in or out and all trains are now being brought to a standstill. Hotels are now getting booked up very quickly.

I have been on the phone all morning as part of my job is accounting for a team of 13 and am exhaused however I'm alive and well, as is everyone I work with, unlike a lot of unfortunate people, my thoughts are with them and their families.

Hope I can get home tomorrow.

Annmarie

I understood the earlier poster's point: The purpose of this attack is clearly not to defeat the United Kingdom by killing its citizens one-by-one. Rather, it is to weaken the resolve of the British people, so that they surrender without being defeated. Causing economic harm is the most effective tool terrorists have for extending the impact of their attacks beyond the harm they can inflict in-the-moment. If they were just looking to kill lots of people, there were weaker-defended targets, where they could have killed hundreds all at once. The timing and location of these attacks were deliberate, to affect the G8 summit, to affect markets, etc. It is very important to give these terrorists their proper respect: They're not idiots, and although they may be radicals, they do consider many aspects in the targets they choose.

My DH and MIL work in the City (both are fine, thank God). DH bought a bike a few months ago as he had a feeling something like this was going to happen. He now doesnt have to use the buses or tubes.

Reports from the scenes are that everyone is actually quite calm and heeding the advice of the Police Chief, which is to stay put and not to try and leave the city.

DHs boss has evacuated the whole office to the pub (they overlook several tourist attractions) but the pub is tucked away down a back alley. They are making the best of it till they can leave. Lots of spirit up there right now, but of course thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones.

:grouphug: This is awful news. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved. My MIL is from Birkenhead and has relations in London - she's trying to reach them now but cannot get through. :grouphug:

It's horrendous. :sad2: Inevitable, but still absolutely horrendous. How can people do this?!
That's what's so awful - that everyone knew it was inevitable but impossible to prevent. I find it really scary that the people behind this no doubt think they are acting on behalf of their god - what a terrifying god that must be who they believe demands such barbarity. And how can we ever persuade them that this is not the right way to treat other human beings?

I understand that & I wasn't having a go at Frances999's post. I was just trying to make the point that, at times like this, the previous discussions on here about the rate of the $ to the £ seems so irrelevant.

I'm not explaining myself very well. I think we're all in a state of shock - like someone said earlier, it was always a case of when not if, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

Prayers and good thoughts for all of you. This brings back such terrible memories of 9/11, you guys were there for us, we're here for you.

I think it is natural to be shaken by events like this, especially to the extent they're (thankfully) rare, and to the extent that we choose not to think of them routinely.

There is now an incident in Coventry City Centre. Police and bomb disposal looking to do a controlled explosion

:grouphug: My prayers and thoughts go out to the families of the dead and injured - it has been an awful day :grouphug:
