Can someone please recommend a car transfer/cab company that will take my family of 4 from Heathrow to London (County Hall area)? There are so many and I just don't know which one to go with. And, I realize that I can take the tube -- but with 4 large pieces of luggage and 4 carry-on, we would rather just hire someone to drive. TIA :thumbsup2

Thank you for posting the question. I hope you don't mind me adding to it??
We are also in need of a car hire for 4 people but from Gatwick Airport to Dover.

Thanks Goofy Mum! Any recommendations for door-to-door transfers?

Living in London, I drive to/from the Carparks at the Airports so cant add personal experience of transfers, However, if you undertake an internet search for Heathrow transfers or Heathrow transfers to London you will get many.

Now look for CABWISE, all the operators in London who are accredited by the London Mayor office, will have this, it means they are under licence.

You also can go to TLF.GOV.UK, This is transport for London, and again look for taxi services.

I personally do not recommend national express, they are cheap but you might have to reserve a bus time and therefore have a wait or miss it, and the next one might be fully booked. It only goes to Victoria so then you are back on another taxi, bus or Tube if your hotel isn't there.

Trains and Tube are very good, yes with luggage its a little difficult but not impossible.

I've received a number of quotes from London car services recommended by posters on Cruise Critic and locals from the London forum on Trip advisor. We needed transport for 5 from Heathrow to our hotel in the South Kensington area and transport for 4 from our hotel to the Southampton cruise port. Those two sites have been a great resource for planning the London portion of our trip in June.

We have used this company several times with no problems.....

We actually just got back this weekend from a stay in London.....this particular trip we just took the tube from Heathrow to Earls Court area but have used that car service in the past.

We had a great time...spent 3 nights in London and then 5 days in a rental van for visits to Oxford, York, Cotswolds (Burton on the Water), Brighton, Dover (cliffs were awesome!), Ramsgate and Canterbury. We put over 1000 miles on the van in the five days.

I would recommend this company for car hire, as they guarentee no hidden extras.....

..something to be wary of, as many car hire companies fail to mention that some one way rentals attract a local charge, normally on collection of your vehicle (and thus these charges are not mentioned on your initial invoice/ contract).

Request an estate car, as this will generally give you much more trunk space, without the need to resorting a much larger car or van in many cases.
