London restaurant recommendation needed

God, I'm gobby today aren't I

We are off to London at the beginning of March so need some recommendations for a great place to go for lunch. Looking for something different to the usual TGIs, Frankie & Bennys type of thing but needs to be somewhere that's good for the kids (boys aged 7 and 10 and a girl aged 11).

We are planning to go to Oxford Street and The Natural History Museum so anywhere reasonably easy to get to from either of those places would be good but that isn't necessarily a deciding factor.

I can recommend Giraffe restaurants, friendly for all ages and with a few branches around town you're bound to find one near you. They do nice cocktails too Sometimes Martin Lewis has offers for them on his website too

I haven't been for a few years but yourself and Gary might like Sticky Fingers in Kensington. TBH the girls would probably love it too, it might not be as "Daniel friendly" as Giraffe, and it would also be a bit pricey.

Giraffe might just take you back to your days at AKL a little

I would also recommend Yo! Sushi and Wagamama if you fancy something a little different.

We have been to Giraffe in London as well - the one and only place when we had a day to kill when we were on our way to Florida . It was near the London eye and it was really good

We've been to Smollensky's on the Strand with younger children which was fine...

My fussier son prefers Browns Brasserie tho'...

just wanted to add that after we went to the Natural History museum last February half term we went to a pizza/pasta place, had a bottle of wine and ended buying loads in Primark next door. Great fun.

There's a huge Primark at the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street - I think they took over an old C&A.

Rainforest Cafe there is Brill They have the best milkshakes in the world.

A third "vote" for pretending you're in WDW and visiting Rainforest Cafe

It's got a nice menu - it's got a number of british touches to it such as bangers and mash...

It's nice and easy to get to as well - just take the tube to Picadilly Circus and it's a short walk. Failing that, you can come up at Oxford Circus and wander down Regent Street

I'd vote for Giraffe - we ate there last year when we were in London for DS birthday and all loved it Would highly recommend it!!!

I like the Rainforest ~ I think it's much nicer than either WDW ones or the one at DLP.

As Giraffe is a chain restaurant that's not exclusive to London, I would put it in the same category as TGIs etc. If it's an independent place you want to visit, I have a couple of recommendations: a great Mexican restaurant called Cafe Pacifico in Covent Garden and an American-style restaurant called The Diner in Soho (this one is probably more suited to kids).

My nephs used to like:

Smollensky's - is always great for kids and the food is good
Hard Rock Cafe on Hyde Park Corner - they liked looking at the musical instruments

have a fab time in London.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - I think we are going to go with Giraffe as, although it's a chain, none of us have been before and the menu looks quite good. There are a few more suggestions I like the sound of, though, and as we've just bought a family railcard, i think a few more trips to London may be in order in teh coming months

I've been to Giraffe a few times and only one of those times (breakfast at Manchester Airport) was good. I think there are better choices in London but it's up to you Joh, I hope it's nice!

You didn't say what date you were going but yes. I love the Museum.
