London restaurant recommendation needed

Another vote for Giraffe, always had good meals there.

I have always thought the food was better quality then the rainforest cafe.

We were in London last weekend for DH 50th birthday we had problems finding something in Oxford street ended up in pizzahut it has gone downhill road works and a lot of tacky shops. we went on the London eye which was good although expensive.

I love the Rainforest Cafe in London!

I know theres a few S & M cafe's (Sausage and Mash..) dotted around London - i'd recommend it - Its great, they have 3 lists - different types of sausages, different types of mash and different gravies - and you kinda just mix and match to what you want.

Its really tasty, a cool concept - and a nice place for lunches .

You can avoid the tacky shops (and Primark!!?) by staying on the Selfridges side of the road. There's also a lot of building work going on on the other side.

As for eating lunch we usually take pot luck of walking down a side street to find a restaurant just off Oxford Street or go to one of the department stores (Debenhams or BHS are usually quite good value.) I like Pizza Hut but usually go to the ones on The Strand or at Covent Garden.

For a nicer meal I head to Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus to the TGI Fridays (I avoid steakhouses like the plague as all they want to do is get you in and out as quickly as possible.) Although there are a lot of restaurants behind Oxford Circus Tube Station near the Palladium which might be worth looking at if you want to stay closer to Oxford Street.
